Chapter 144: Children Cries

She was ushered by YanLan into the car and once inside, the young man offered her juices in various different color, stating how those juices are really good for health and he continued to go on and on about why fruit juices are good for her. She drank one and thought of how tasty it was only to see YanLan smiling widely with proudness.

"If it’s about Li Family, I knew it better than anyone in the world!" YanLan answered with a brief snicker.

"Hm, then do you mind if I ask you some questions?" She asked and YanLan nodded at once. she thought about it before asking first question, "Isn’t ZiChen close to the girl named Mei Hua?"

"Close?" Laughed YanLan. "I think the only people who think they’re close is JingYi and Mei Hua herself. All of us know that ZiChen doesn’t like Mei Hua’s company. He’s only tolerating her for his younger brother’s sake. Although JingYi always seemed scared of ZiChen, Zi Chen really loves him a lot and dote on him quite a lot. Even when they were young, ZiChen would usually pick all the dislike vegetables from JingYi’s plate so his younger brother wouldn’t be scolded. I witness it happen first hand and immediately told to their mother! Hahaha, they got scolded really badly!"

AiLin chuckled a little seeing how YanLan was proud for causing Zi Chen to be scolded. They seemed really closer than what AiLin had first thought as if the three of them were as tight as brothers.

"So was there any woman who Zi Chen was close with?"

Her tone was light and soft, indifferent and gentle but YanLan’s throat bobbed upon listening the question and he almost abruptly stopped the car and hit the brake from startle. He eventually clenched his fists and come to his thoughts. If he said yes, AiLin would misunderstand so he vehemently denied it, "No. Of course not. Handsome as he is, he’s cold as ice blocks. Even people call him frigid and thought he’s gay. He didn’t really look at gender when he talk to someone, whether it’s female or male if they cross him the same way, they’ll receive equal punishment. People immediately thought he’s asexual and incapable of loving though I doubt so. Ever since we were young Zi Chen’s dream was to be like his father, my uncle, devoted to wife and children, a small family but a close tight knit one."

"Oh."

AiLin’s lashes shadowed her darkened eyes and seeing this YanLan was full of questions. Although he had thought he had given the right reply why does AiLin look so... defeated? He retraced his words but still found that his comments about Li ZiChen should have made AiLin feel peaceful but now she appeared even more restless than before. How odd.

"What about senior Mr Li and Mrs Li?" She asked toward YanLan who was still driving while keeping some glances back at her spot.

"They’re good people. More than good they’re really kind and compassionate. You don’t have to worry as they had never force their children to be anything other than themselves so they’ll never ask someone else to shoulder a burden either."

"I see," answered AiLin as she submerged in her thoughts. Her tone sounded more gloomy than ever as she responded to YanLan’s questions. While fiddling with her own fingers, she realized something. The brighter and greater Li Family was, the more ashamed she was of herself.

she shook the thoughts away and pulled her face upward, showing a brighter smile than before, "Right, so what about JingYi’s stalker? What has been happening?"

"Oh," seeing how AiLin seemed to have regain a better mood, YanLan answered energetically, "JingYi was receiving very odd package in his office. I heard it started from letters but that’s weird because these days no one send letters. It was also quite a beautiful letter so we were sure the sender is a woman. When JingYi received it and tried to open the letter, he was suddenly cut but a sharp blade that was hidden in the letter. He kept quiet about this though. But I heard he did told Mei Hua about it but she shrugged it saying it’s impossible for a man to have a stalker like she once did."

AiLin hummed and scoffed, "What happens to a woman can happen to a man, as long as we’re a human, we can suffer the same subject."

Nodding his head, YanLan was going to reach for a cigarette but stopped. He stifled his urges and stared up at her again, "Indeed! I said the same to JingYi but he kept brushing it aside, saying that there shouldn’t be any way for an adult man like him to be stalked. Well it soon became a reality when evidences were piled up. We all saw that there was a car that kept following him around, gifts that were placed all around his apartments but those gifts weren’t actually gifts as they were women’s underwear... and other disgusting things. He even found a doll that was made to look like him that was cut up and covered with blood red paints."

"I can’t be sure whether the stalker likes JingYi or hate him," she responded to which JingYi snapped his finger in agreement.

"Exactly what I thought. It seems like hatred but also love? She wrote in her letters that she wants JingYi to look at her once but he didn’t even though she had sacrificed everything for him."

AiLin winced in cringe when she suddenly received a message from her sister, Vicky:

[Sister! A friend of mine would like to meet you soon. If you’re free could we meet today?]

AiLin pressed her phone thoughtfully, [Of course, but I don’t think I can be free until late evening]

[if that’s the case he’s going to go home early because his parents are livid so maybe tomorrow?]

[sure, sure let me know when you’ve decided the timing] AiLin answered the short message before wondered who the young man that Vicky want to introduce. Maybe Vicky’s boyfriend?! If that’s the case, she needs to be a good older sister and assess this young man closely!

"We’re here in JS Entertainment," YanLan called out loud as he stopped the car for AiLin to walk out from.

Looking at the building AiLin felt a brief sense of burden on her heart as she had promised to not only look through JingYi’s stalker issue but also see the writer of her favorite novel "Death By your Hands" she was really interested in seeing the novelist, also wanting to thank her for writing the story that had been a comfort in her solitude when she was still in prison. But if she goes to meet the novelist, she would have to see the writers and directors of the movie and have to turn down the offer of the lead actress in front of everyone, which was not only ungrateful but blasphemous.

She sighed when YanLan who heard this offer her fruit juice to which she declined.

Upon entering sneakily, she saw large banners of the novelist’s name and book, noting down the hours which the book signing would occur which made her to fasten her steps into the elevator, accompanied by YanLan who only need to wink to the people in the counter and the securities for him to be let inside the building as if it was his second home.

YanLan pressed the elevator and saw her sneakily staring at the book signing event, "Do you want to see the book signing too? I heard she’s a famous novelist! Though whether the novelist is a male or a female has never been disclose, so many people are dying to see them today out of pure admiration. Many people fail to win the ticket but you can surely just see the novelist from afar, it won’t hurt."

"No, I’m good," AiLin responded before taking another look at the small table for the book signing event. She decided not to see the novelist at all for the sake of her own soul. As she walked out of the elevator, eyes followed her. They all didn’t seem to mind YanLan but was all staring at her curiously, wondering who she was. She showed the people a warm smile and they all return back to her with a kind gentleness which made her think that not only was Li ZiChen and kind person, he had made his own company be filled with people like him.

Upon reaching JingYi’s office, the secretary first greeted her with a gentle smile. She then helped AiLin to open the door and allowed her in, saying in a kind whisper, "Take your time and please let me know if you prefer tea or coffee."

"Coffee please," AiLin was open to the kindness and saw how the secretary seemed to blossom a smile as she left and closed the door behind her.

The secretary then saw the other workers who had stopped in front of JingYi’s office and all began to gossip, "I told you! She’s not only prettier than Miss Mei Hua but also so much kinder."

"I know! I know! She thanked me when I opened the door for her."

"Oh right, she even held the elevator earlier to let many of us to enter."

"I heard that she’s not only kind but soft spoken. Unlike Miss Mei Hua who would always look at us condescendingly."

"Do you think she’s young master JingYi’s girlfriend?"

"No!" Someone shouted from the back, "She’s not young master JingYi’s but Boss Li’s girlfriend. I heard from a trusted source that they even live together."
