Chapter 136: Walking Trap

Elder Hua was immediately worked up by the words that were lightly thrown by Hua Valentine. She glared at her and moved her gaze to the knife on the ground, as if wanting to pick it up and slash it across Valentine’s neck. But Valentine was at ease. She was instead smiling as she watched Elder Hua who had worked herself too hard and how her elderly body was giving up with a bloody cough that splattered on her hands. Valentine watched it with delight as she remained silent.

"Mother," Hua Valentine spoke up, "I know what you plan to do with Hua Family, you wish to give it to JangJang and that’s fine, but do you really think I won’t retaliate?"

Elder Hua wiped her mouth in disdain and scoffed, "What can you do, Valentine? Correct, I can’t kill your husband or daughter yet but one day I will and you will see it for yourself how you will regret the words you have spoken to me."

But Valentine didn’t budge. She knew Elder Hua wanted to patronize her and control her through her fear, like how she usually does. What was more frightening about this now frail elderly woman wasn’t only her threats about killing anyone close to her life, but the fact that she had done that so many times. Elder Hua was always the type of person who would get rid of what she doesn’t like by killing them, her moral value was low and that had once made Valentine tremble in fear.

But now Valentine had grown numb to it. She couldn’t possibily live her life in fear anymore knowing that her daughter still needs her. She had failed as a mother but that doesn’t mean that she would follow the old hag’s steps into becoming someone who should never have been a mother.

"You’re nothing against me, Valentine," Elder Hua remarked, "For your behavior today, you will see who has to pay for it."

Valentine watched as Elder Hua’s eyes moved behind her, staring at the door at the young nurse who appeared to have rushed toward the room but didn’t dare to open it. The young nurse was the same nurse who Valentine had warned to not get all chummy with her. Upon seeing Valentine almost got cut by the knife, the nurse panicked and she had called up the fellow nurses who in return ignored her, pretending as though they hadn’t seen anything as they were cleverer than the young nurse who didn’t know caring for Valentine will cause more trouble for themselves.

Hua Valentine didn’t have to look back as she could hear the panic voice coming from the young nurse earlier. The young nurse who was at the age of her own daughter who she had to let go since birth. She tightened her jaw and remained to look at Elder Hua with a numb expression.

"There are many ways to ruin someone’s life, Valentine," Elder Hua then continued as she dawned a glass of water. She stared at her heinous expression while she spoke, "Yes, just like the way I have destroyed that eldest son of Li Family, do you think I won’t find a way to completely destroy your daughter? I don’t have to raise my fingers to kill her, I can even make her drive herself to the point of death."

What Elder Hua wanted to see was anger crossing Valentine’s face and it had worked. Though Valentine rarely changed expression when being threatened by Elder Hua, it seemed she hasn’t gotten accustomed to having her daughter being threatened right in front of her face.

Hua Valentine’s eyes burn while staring at the mother who bore little resemblance to her.

"I have told Director Mang. From now on your office will be moved to the South East of Beijing," Elder Hua remarked with ease.

Though Elder Hua despise Valentine, fact is, Valentine is the only bright child that Elder Hua has other than her late eldest son who was long dead due to an accident. She had kept Hua Valentine around not because she has a single bit of care for the young Valentine, in fact she had only kept her around because she was useful. There were many times when Elder Hua would show how she has no concern about Valentine’s safety or reputation, shaming her right in front of her subordinates, calling her out, and letting others including her younger brother to steal all her achievements under the broad daylight.

Eventually no one had any respect for Valentine. Though successful, she was nothing to the Hua Corporation Board, instead they look at her as if she was lower than the part timers who worked in the company. It’s not rare for problems to be thrown over to Valentine, and in fact she was the one who had made the company raise to its pinnacle of success.

Yet now that the company is successful, Elder Hua had decided to move her to South East of Beijing, similar to the cold palace, a throwaway company that was known for pocketing all the incomes to their bank accounts. It was known that not too soon everyone from the South East office would be taken to custody and put on trials for corruption.

So this was what Elder Hua had planned for Valentine’s "ending", making her get caught in a problem yet again that would for certain drag her to prison now. Inside the prison, Valentine could guess what end would wait for her and her family.

"Upset?" Sang Elder Hua like a witch who was partaking in joy seeing someone’s suffering and laughing at it in delight.

Valentine didn’t respond. She bowed her head forward, "Then I should leave the main office by tomorrow."

"Today. I have told BaoZi to throw all your work," Elder Hua then looked at the perfectly cut bunny shaped apples with a grin, "Good riddance," she muttered out as if she was delighted to be able to say it aloud.

Valentine stared at the older woman sitting on top of the bed. She recalled how once when she was younger, she had begged for her attention. The only saving grace in her life was her father but even him was powerless to this frightening woman in front of her. Once her mother had no more use for her father, she didn’t hesitate to kick out her father from the house, in the end he had died in a freaky accident as the car he was driving fell off a cliff.

His death happened on the day of Valentine’s birthday as he had came to visit her after the divorce and she knew it was no accident.

Such a woman who would get rid of her husband, child, and anything that she deemed useless. Valentine wondered if she was ever a human.

This made her blood curl as she feared this heinous monstrosity was somehow embedded inside her. That perhaps she too, was similar to Elder Hua, and was someone who would hurt her own family.

But Valentine knew blood doesn’t determine once’s course of action as she loves her daughters and son more than anything, her husband is the only light in her dark light, and her family members were akin to her saving grace.

So how can someone be as evil as Elder Hua?

Valentine once asked such question but she eventually found the answer to be not important. Whatever it is, it doesn’t matter. Trying to understand Elder Hua was never important.

Valentine bowed her head and walked outside. From Elder Hua’s view it appeared as if she had left the room in despair as her days had been numbered but she didn’t know that once Valentine lifted her face, a wide smile had appeared from her face. It was like a child’s smile filled with immense delight. How could she not be delighted?

Finally. Finally.

Everything had gone to plan.

Li ZiChen that young man, he must have had the memories of his past lives for how clever he was to guess every steps made by Elder Hua, his prediction of what Elder Hua would have done today was right on the money and she could only expect that everything was going so ell to the plan that they both have made.

Valentine’s hands itched. She never liked anyone who hurt their own families but Elder Hua?

She deserves the worst death.

Stopping by the elevator, the young nurse from earlier had rushed toward her with fear and tears on her eyes. She reached out her hand to place a bandaid on Valentine’s hands. Her fingers were shaking as she had just seen someone who was almost killed and though she could handle blood, she couldn’t handle the shock of seeing a life easily taken away from one’s body.

"I- I have tried calling for help but no one seemed to budge. I’m really sorry, I should have entered the room and helped you..."

Valentine looked at the bandaid and her jaw ticked.

"I warned you not to be nice to me."

"B- but..."

Valentine then tapped the card she had pushed into the young nurse’s waist pocket before she entered Elder Hua’s room.

"Listen to me. You’re going to get fired in half an hour. Take this card and get yourself a new place to live in a different town. I will contact you in a few days to find you a new hospital to work in."

"W- what..?"

"I have to pay for the sufferings others have to go through because of me," Valentine whispered as she tapped the card again, "If you heard what I have said, now leave from my side before it gets dangerous."

The nurse couldn’t understand what Valentine had said but no less than half an hour later she received a terrible news from the head nurse that she had lost her job. Then she had another news stating that she had been evicted. The poor young nurse was an orphan and she realized that the warnings Valentine had given to her was for her own sake belatedly after she moved to another town.
