Chapter 122: Dumb Fox

Controlling his anger was never a good skill Li ZiChen possess. He was always known to be calm but truth is far from that. Unlike his father who was much composed, he had taken his mother’s attitude which made him more hot headed. Fortunately his face was more akin to his father which made it easier to control his facial expression and made himself look cold and tender instead of murderous as his heart was raging.

When he casted his glance downward to Mei Hua, Li ZiChen was only wondering if now was the right time to kill Mei Hua. There were many eyes watching but what’s important to him is that AiLin wasn’t watching. As long as she doesn’t watch, as long as she doesn’t see it.

His fingers cracked as he thought about slamming this woman to the wall. Though he was taught violence wasn’t an answer, it was mostly a better choice in his head.

Mei Hua’s face on the other hand had turned blue. She stared in startle seeing for the very first time how "frightening" Li ZiChen was. Though people had always cried out of fear, and others telling her that no one could ever endure Li ZiChen’s wrath, she had always been confident that she could be the one to ease his anger, that she would never be the subject of such fiery anger but for the first time she learnt that she was wrong.

No one... could ever withstand such a frightening expression of a monster set on such a handsome face.

Gone was Mei Hua’s blood from her face as she felt the need to take three steps backward as Li ZiChen closed in. His hand then reached to her neck and she could feel her beating vein being pressed down by his thumb. The snake tattoo on his hand seemed to have came alive and taken a hold grasp on her neck, biting down her flesh to spread its venom.

"You."

Li ZiChen’s tone was enough to set the party mood into ice cold fear.

"I had warned you what would happen to you if you continue to step out of your boundaries. But words don’t seem to serve enough warning to you."

Mei Hua’s lips had trembled and her voice shake like a leaf, "W- why.. why would you go so far for someone like her?"

"Someone like her?" Li ZiChen’s brown eyes turned pitch black as he closed his face toward her, his anger had spread far and wide, the raging wrath clear on his clenched jaw, "You are nothing compared to her. She isn’t someone who you could easily speak about as a mere no one."

"S- she doesn’t even like you!" Mei Hua felt the grasp tighter on her neck and her face turned bluer as air was struggling to enter her lungs. The more she talked the worse she had made her condition but she couldn’t stop herself, wanting to tell him that he should be with her and not someone like AiLin. She bite down her lips, tears spreading on her cheeks while people surrounding them were struggling to pick their choice on whether to help Mei Hua or step away from the problem quietly. They know well what would happen if such anger would be directed to them, that they would never be able to endure the incoming plight of angering such a frightening man.

"P- Please ZiChen... she doesn’t d- deserve you. She’s someone who juggle from one man to another— she— help stop!"

Li ZiChen’s knuckles flex and he watched as Mei Hua’s eyes rolled with her fading consciousness. Before it was far gone, he released her and threw her down the floor. He didn’t cast his eyes back on her as he muttered, "I don’t want anything to ruin tonight’s plan. AiLin won’t be happy if her plan is ruined. It will make her suffer again.."

Mei Hua coughed for air, her neck was burning in pain and she was struggling to get herself together as her body sway out of dizziness but from where she had sprawled, she could see the crazed gaze in Li ZiChen’s brown eyes. His sanity seemed to be gone from his head as he whispered a few words to himself, as if trying to control his said anger by giving reasons, making her shudder even worse in fear.

"Mei Hua," Li ZiChen said then, tone ice cold that had slapped her dizzy head awake, "My mother, father, or JingYi will never contact you again from now on. If you continue to speak their names as reasons for your actions, I can promise you that I’ll find you and I’ll end you."

He then looked at his hands and then walked out of the party hall in a rush, making his way to the washroom and lathering his hand with soap before rubbing his hands furiously to make sure nothing, not even a spec of germ, could reside in his palms again.

Meanwhile far from the incident, AiLin who had left the party hall earlier than him was standing near the lobby. She had left in a rush and so she doesn’t know what to do now. The party wasn’t going to start but she didn’t want to enter in and intrude on Li ZiChen and Mei Hua. She could watch them from afar but for some reason she didn’t feel like going there and watching them, she didn’t want to.

When she thought about Mei Hua, she could tell that the girl must have liked Li ZiChen a lot. This was their second time meeting and in this second time, she looked even more anxious and desperate to show her that they are together, fearing that AiLin would steal the man who she loves.

Even though the girl didn’t have to be so desperate to do so as she knew she wasn’t going to go after Li ZiChen. Mei Hua was such a young and pretty girl. She has a great figure, her air was always fluffy and pink, her words gentle and demure. Unlike her who was more downcast, gloomy, and would speak in such a demanding and callous tone. People used to tell her she was beautiful but beauty is nothing when no one could appreciate it. She could be beautiful to others but she knew unless she act the way that Mei Hua does, or dressed like her, live a life like her, or had a beautiful outlook in life, she was nothing more than an ugly small fox.

If she was a man, she would probably choose someone like Mei Hua instead of herself and that thought somehow hurt her, making her think of herself as smaller than ever.

AiLin rubbed her forehead. What was she doing by comparing herself to such a beautiful and lovely girl desperate to attain the love of a man she had a crush for years on?

They were completely different, that’s for certain. Mei Hua was above her in any criteria, and she could accept it, she wouldn’t usually think about it. But oddly tonight when she thought of how Li ZiChen would choose Mei Hua more than her, a part of her broken heart felt chipped off.

"What a dumb fox," she muttered to herself. She recalled how people used to call her a fox because fox are creatures who held grudge so strongly to others for years and decades to come. But she always thought of herself as a fox because once she had read about how pretty and they were. Deep down, foxes are always filled with a lot of love but they were far too haughty to beg for the people they love to pay any attention to themselves. Eventually they’re looked at as too tough and people began to overlook their sufferings. Even if they were put through hardship by the people they care, the fox would obediently do what they wish to please them, no matter what it would be even if it means sacrificing their own life. Then the people they love began to forget about their suffering, looking them as nothing more than tools to work with than an animal with an emotion who was begging for love.

Even knowing that they weren’t loved anymore, the dumb fox didn’t even ask for love any longer, devoting themselves for the people they love no matter what even if the next day that dumb fox would be killed and cooked by the hands of the people they’ve been protecting.

She hated being a fox. Yet she could see herself in it.

Sighing again, AiLin stared at the sparkling stars outside when she could feel someone tall standing behind her. She quickly pulled up a smile and turned back, "You’re done talking to Mei Hua... you’re... you’re not ZiChen."

The man who had stood behind her was familiar. Familiar of course, as she had seen this man being hugged closely by Jiang NianNian on the day she was about to visit the hospital. The young man was as tall as Li ZiChen and was even dressed in similar colored suit which made her thought it was him who had stood behind her from the mirror.

So she was startled to see the young man.

He laughed, "Of course I am not Mr Li. How can I even compare to such a handsome and successful senior of mine? I saw you from afar and immediately ran here because I wanted to talk to you. I hope that I have given you enough impression for you to remember who I am?"

"Miss Jiang’s friend," Ailin spoke out, her tone straight and the smile that had appeared on her face faded. "Are you not?"

"Indeed, but I would like it if you remember my name instead of such title," he then reached out his hand toward her and grinned, "Su HaiTan. You can call me as Hai-Tan. May you grant me the opportunity to extend the same friendship?"
