Chapter 2618: Chapter 2616: Refusal

“As a reward for coming here, I’ll clear up some mysteries for you.”

The old man spoke to himself.

“Since the emergence of this Holy Kingdom, various beings have continuously evolved, and our existence has been controlled by order. We also exist to help the Holy Lords better control this Holy Kingdom. That means, as long as the Holy Lord exists, no matter how powerful we are, we could be annihilated in an instant.”

Ethan Smith’s mind stirred, speculating about some things.

“So, now that the Holy Kingdom has lost its master, is this your opportunity to rise?”

“Yes, and no. I, Felix Cloud, have lived in this world for so long, even peeking into the great paths of this Holy Kingdom. Even facing the Saint Path Profound, as long as he doesn’t use his Holy Lord power, he can’t do anything to me. I conceal ninety percent of my power here and became the City Lord of Nine Bends City.”

Felix Cloud spoke to himself, seemingly telling a long story.

“I thought I would live this way, as long as the Holy Lord doesn’t detect my power, I can continue to exist forever in Nine Bends City. Otherwise, I would be utterly destroyed in an instant. I’ve lived here for five Heavenly Path Years, even existing before Path Profound became a Saint. Naturally, I don’t want to just disappear.”

When he spoke, Ethan felt a chill run down his spine.

To hide one’s power from a Saint in this world requires an unbelievable level of power.

Can a kingdom spawn such terrifying beings?

“But I didn’t expect the Saint Path Profound to die. His Divine Fire sent outsiders into this Holy Kingdom, and one strand of the Divine Fire discovered my power. So eighty percent of the strength of Nine Bends City suppressed me, including the subconscious power of Path Profound that created these Talismans and barriers, all born from his subconscious.”

“Isn’t the Saint Path Profound already dead? Why would there still be power suppressing you?”

Ethan asked softly; this appearance seemed too strange.

And it looked like he wasn’t exaggerating because of the aura Felix Cloud emitted now.

It pressed so heavily on Ethan’s chest that it made cracking noises, an aura stronger than even Saifu.

And previously, why had Nine Bends City always managed to suppress the undead army? It now seemed it wasn’t because of Saifu’s sudden appearance, but due to the City Lord’s presence.

“Even if his soul is completely shattered, his traces still exist in this Holy Kingdom. Only with the passage of time will these traces gradually fade. His fragments of the Divine Soul found my power, intending to erase my existence. But now my power is beyond his subconscious dealing.”

Felix Cloud said with a smile.

When he raised his head, violent waves suddenly surged in space.

Then he casually tore into space, grabbing spatial energy into his hand.

Unexpectedly, through these two channels in the Void, scenes from another place were visible.

“Dean! Ella Jenkins!”

Ethan cried out in disbelief, relieved that the dean and others’ Divine Souls weren’t shattered, coming here just like him.

“Why do you tell me so much? Do you do this with every outsider who comes here?”

“Of course not; these were the outsiders who entered here before you.”

Felix Cloud smiled eerily, and nearly fifty bodies appeared on the ground.

The gruesome state of these corpses indicated they had suffered horrifying torments before their death.

“But wasn’t I supposed to be among the first batch to arrive at Nine Bends City? There shouldn’t have been people here before me, right?”

Ethan suddenly remembered a question. By his timing, he should be among the earliest batch.

Furthermore, the requirements to enter here were excessively stringent, demanding a vast amount of military merit, so there couldn’t have been so many people.

“What you experienced is merely the outermost part of the Holy Kingdom, without witnessing anything real. This is why I chose Nine Bends City – its time and space are different. Nine Bends City will always persist, even if it’s breached, it will restore itself, understand?”

Felix Cloud said with a smile.

Ethan had a sudden realization, meaning this place would continually refresh like a reset, which made sense.

“But outsiders like you won’t reset. If you die, you truly die. This is the second time I’ve observed this masterless Holy Kingdom. This world is extraordinary; it follows the Holy Lord’s will. However, once the Holy Lord is absent, it continually generates its consciousness, obstructing new Holy Lords from forming.”

“I roughly get it. Given this, what do you seek that’s worth spending so much time talking to me?”

Ethan took a deep breath, able to make Felix Cloud converse with him for so long.

Ethan had likely deduced something: the Heart of the Holy Kingdom on him could aid Felix Cloud.

“I want you to invoke the power of this Holy Kingdom. Each Heart of the Holy Kingdom can mobilize part of the power, then lift the suppression here. In return, I will eliminate the Undead Legion in this Great War, letting you survive to delve deeper into the Holy Kingdom.”

Felix Cloud said with a smile.

“I’m sorry, I refuse.”

Ethan shook his head and directly rejected Felix Cloud’s proposition.

Felix Cloud’s face instantly turned cold, seemingly not expecting Ethan to refuse so bluntly.

“As an ancient monster that has survived for so long, perhaps the beings you least desire are us outsiders. Each outsider could potentially become a Holy Lord, especially those possessing the Heart of the Holy Kingdom.”

Ethan shook his head.

Even though he wouldn’t use the Heart of the Holy Kingdom to invoke power, once Felix Cloud’s seal is released, this ancient monster won’t be so easy to handle.

“Suggest another option. Since I can get here, there’s surely an option for you to take action—this Holy Kingdom’s order persists.”

From the earlier conversation, Ethan deduced some things. As the City Lord of Nine Bends City, although subconsciousness sealed him.

His duty was still to protect this city.

So, there must be an option for him to take action; it’s just a matter of what price needs to be paid for his involvement.

“Heh heh, since you’re courting death, have it your way. More holders of the Heart of the Holy Kingdom will continue to appear, and I can just wait for the next outsider.”

Felix Cloud chuckled softly, the endless ages had made it hard for him to feel emotionally affected anymore.

He casually pulled Ethan into another space.

This was no longer the scene in the chaotic currents of the Void, but deep within a massive trial field.
