Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Stay with Me

Inside the house, Auntie Wang was busy preparing dinner while the elderly lady accompanied Wen Shaoyuan to wash his hands. Afterwards, they settled on the sofa together to watch an animated movie. When Su Mu and Fu Shinian walked in side by side, this was the heartwarming scene they encountered.

It seemed that the atmosphere had also affected Fu Shinian, or perhaps he simply didn’t want to show too much in front of his grandmother, so his expression softened a great deal:

"I’ll go upstairs to take a shower first."

The elderly lady nodded:

"Susu, you go up too and help sort out the luggage. Come down after dinner is ready."

Su Mu, who had initially planned to head to the living room, halted in her tracks but didn’t say much, simply nodding her head: "Okay."

Wen Shaoyuan looked at Su Mu and asked the elderly lady:

"Grandma, can I go upstairs too?"

"If Xiao Yuan goes up as well, grandma will feel very lonely."

Wen Shaoyuan smiled softly:

"Then I’ll stay here with you."

Fu Shinian’s gaze shifted away from the elderly lady and Wen Shaoyuan’s faces, and he started walking upstairs with Su Mu closely following behind him.

Inside the master bedroom on the second floor, Su Mu approached the suitcase that Fu Shinian had set down while he was undressing and pulled it up: "I’ll take it to the wardrobe and sort everything out first."

"No need," Fu Shinian spoke: "Join me for the shower."

Su Mu was taken aback, standing still, while Fu Shinian slightly tilted the corners of his lips:

"What? You can be someone else’s stepmother but forget your duty as a wife?"

"Can’t you listen to my explanation first?"

"Explain what?" Fu Shinian turned to look at her: "You’re saying something happened at the Wen Family, and Wen Shaoyuan’s relatives are all unable to return, so they had no choice but to ask you to take care of him for a few days, is that right?"

He had guessed the cause of the incident from the beginning but did not support her doing this. Su Mu suddenly felt a profound sense of helplessness:

"That is the truth."

"But Su Mu, do you think you should get involved in Wen Family’s matters? Even if all of Wen Family’s members can’t come back to be with the child, do they not have other relatives? Who are you to the Wen Family? You’re merely Wen Shaoyuan’s tutor. If something happens to Wen Shaoyuan while he is under your care, can you bear the responsibility?"

Fu Shinian looked at her coldly:

"Or do you think Wen Han will protect you?"

"I was just..."

"Soft-hearted? Sympathetic?" Fu Shinian chuckled lightly: "Then I have nothing to say."

After saying that, he entered the bathroom. Su Mu stood there for a few seconds, reconsidering his words, and then understood that he indeed knew a bit about the Wen Family’s matters. His words, upon careful listen, did not seem to carry blame but rather concern about her facing an unforeseen incident.

Realizing Fu Shinian’s intentions, Su Mu no longer felt as disheartened as before. She glanced towards the bathroom and eventually walked over.

Fu Shinian stood under the shower, his fine physique and robust muscles were undoubtedly on display. Even though Su Mu had seen and touched him many times before, her face still flushed with heat. When Fu Shinian sensed her gaze, he glanced at her and laughed softly:

"Come here."

As Su Mu approached, Fu Shinian turned around:

"Dressed in so many layers, do you want me to undress you?"

"Not that..."

Before Su Mu could finish her words, he grabbed her arm and forcefully pulled her towards him, into his embrace, drenching her under the shower as well. In no time, Su Mu’s entire body was soaked, her white shirt clinging tightly to her skin. Although she didn’t enjoy the damp feeling, Fu Shinian’s gaze didn’t leave her, and his eyes conveyed satisfaction with her current state.

In the steamy room, Su Mu’s cheeks were blushing, and Fu Shinian leaned down to whisper in her ear, "Trying to seduce me? Congratulations, you’ve succeeded."

Even though her current dishevelment was his doing, he had twisted the situation. But Su Mu didn’t dare to contradict him, only lowering her gaze in silence.

When everything was over, Fu Shinian leaned on the headrest of the bed, quietly lighting a cigarette and puffing out clouds of smoke without saying a word. The smoke shrouded him, and Su Mu, snuggling next to him, noticed his distant gaze and wondered what he was thinking. It seemed she had never truly seen through him.

He was like a fog, leading one astray, yet never truly attainable.

After finishing his cigarette in silence, Fu Shinian still offered no additional words. He simply looked down at Su Mu, who had been gazing at him all along, and smiled faintly. As he was about to get up to rinse off, Su Mu gently caught hold of his arm. Fu Shinian paused his motion to get out of bed and looked at her, raising an eyebrow slightly:

"Want more?"

Her face was red, and it wasn’t clear whether it was from his words or from what had just happened. Su Mu gently shook her head:

"Are you still angry?"

Fu Shinian hummed lightly:

"Do you care if I’m angry? Or do you think that as long as you treat me like you just did, I can let everything slide? Su Mu, what do you think you are?"

"I’m not..." Su Mu sat up slightly to clarify: "I just can’t see through your current mood. If you’re angry..."

"What if I am? Are you going to coax me?"

In their relationship, Su Mu and Fu Shinian rarely had moments of harmony. He was consistently sarcastic and never took her feelings into account. The unhappiness he caused Su Mu was something she dealt with on her own. As for him, it seemed he would get over it slowly, then enter a new cycle of displeasure without giving her a chance to make amends.

Moreover, Su Mu didn’t believe that Fu Shinian was someone who could be pacified easily; she never had such an experience. He understood many things and all he needed was time to digest them.

Seeing Su Mu’s confused expression, Fu Shinian, uncharacteristically, didn’t use his sharp tongue, but simply said indifferently:

"You’re tired. Get some sleep."
