Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Risking Life to Rescue
Yes, Sun Raorao wasn’t that foolish. Who would use such an easily detectable method to deal with someone?
The only person who knew Su Mu’s identity and had a reason to do so was Qin Nianwan herself.
Even she hadn’t anticipated that her initial intent of having Sun Raorao merely trouble Su Mu would be faced with such a massive trap waiting for her. Now, standing uncovered before Fu Shinian like a newborn infant, she felt the repressed anger within her nearly igniting herself.
She couldn’t admit it. How could she admit it?!
"Shinian, I don’t know who set this up, but I have no reason to do so. You said Sun Raorao wouldn’t be so foolish, but neither would I be so foolish as to set a trap that ensnares me as well. There’s simply no benefit in this for me."
Fu Shinian chuckled softly,
"Are you sure there’s no benefit? Didn’t you tell Sun Raorao last night that you were unsure about securing Mrs. Fu’s position? If something were to happen to Su Mu today because of your actions, would you still think that becoming Mrs. Fu is completely out of your grasp?"
"But that’s too dangerous, how could I..."
"You don’t need me to tell you the principle that you can’t catch a cub without entering the tiger’s den."
Qin Nianwan despaired. Her eyes began to redden as she looked at Fu Shinian’s. Injustices, unwillingness, and regret flooded her heart in an instant, overwhelming her. She wanted to say something, to explain to Fu Shinian that she really hadn’t tampered with the brake lines, but how could she explain?
She had already explained, but Fu Shinian simply did not believe her.
Having been away for two years, and only back for just 3 or 4 months, it seemed that her path with Fu Shinian had come to an end. The Fu Shinian she knew would never keep her by his side after believing she had done such a thing, unless he didn’t love Su Mu, unless he wished her dead as well.
But he didn’t. Instead, he preferred placing himself in imminent danger to save her.
Just as she was disheartened and decided to leave, Fu Shinian suddenly reached out to gently wipe the tears from her face. Qin Nianwan looked at him incredulously, only to see him looking at the teardrop on his fingertip, softly saying,
"Why cry? I never said I believed you did it."
"But..." The surprise came so suddenly that Qin Nianwan didn’t know how to react, just staring at him dumbly, "Do you, do you believe me?"
"I only believe what I see."
What did that mean? Didn’t what he see point to her as the main culprit?
Just as Qin Nianwan wanted to ask him for clarification, Fu Shinian seemed unwilling to say more, merely stating, "It’s getting late; go back and rest."
No matter how many doubts Qin Nianwan harbored, she dared not voice them out loud. She gazed deeply at him one last time and slowly left the room.
Song Yi caught Fu Shinian’s glance and walked over to close the door. When he turned back, Fu Shinian was already standing in front of the French windows, leaving him with a slender and handsome silhouette.
Taking a few steps forward, Song Yi stopped about two meters away from Fu Shinian:
"Mr. Fu, do you not believe that Miss Qin would do such a thing?"
"She indeed has a motive, but not to be so foolish."
Foolish enough to divulge all plans to someone else before carrying out the act, and to use someone close to carry out the sabotage. Yet, this transparent deception was designed flawlessly by the mastermind behind it, even providing a perfect reason why Wei Shaoqin wasn’t in the car.
It was indeed with great pains.
Song Yi fell silent for a few seconds: "Then I’ll investigate further."
"No need, wait until we get back to Shen City and have someone cut all of Wei Shaoqin’s car’s fuel lines."
Song Yi opened his mouth but eventually said nothing. Compared to the vile act of cutting brake lines, Fu Shinian’s act of cutting the fuel line was quite merciful. At most, a few sports cars would catch fire without harming any innocent people.
"Mr. Fu, do you think this matter is related to Wei Shaoqin?"
Fu Shinian snorted lightly, "Otherwise, why do you think he brought Su Mu all the way here just to help him pick up women?"
"What about Miss Qin..."
"There’s no need to tell her."
"Yes."
----
Su Mu had thought she wouldn’t be able to sleep at all, but after eating the meal Song Yi delivered, which was sent by Fu Shinian, she felt drowsy and slept until almost dusk without dreaming at all. This lack of concern surprised Su Mu herself.
What she didn’t know was that before delivering the meal, Fu Shinian had specifically instructed Song Yi to call Qiao Yu and ask about the amount of sleeping medication added to the food. He wanted to ensure that Su Mu could sleep soundly without harming her body too much so that she wouldn’t dwell on the recent car incident.
After getting up, Su Mu went to the living room and picked up her phone, finding over a dozen missed calls, all from Wei Shaoqin. She was pondering whether he might have something urgent when she heard someone pounding at the door.
Yes, pounding! The force of the knocks made Su Mu feel it was far from a polite knock.
If it hadn’t been for Wei Shaoqin’s faint voice coming through, Su Mu thought she might have chosen to call the police immediately.
The moment she opened the door, Wei Shaoqin nearly plunged straight into Su Mu’s arms. Fortunately, Su Mu, reacting swiftly, dodged to the side, allowing Wei Shaoqin to fall ungracefully on the floor.
But he didn’t seem embarrassed at all. He got up effortlessly and looked at Su Mu:
"Where the hell have you been? I’ve called you over a dozen times, and you didn’t answer. Are you trying to kill me?"
Su Mu indifferently replied:
"I was sleeping."
"Sleeping is no excuse for not answering the phone! I thought something serious happened, and you were rushed to the hospital."
Su Mu lazily rolled her eyes:
"I’ve never heard a nice word from you."
Seeing she was fine, Wei Shaoqin dropped the subject. With past experiences as a reference, occasions when Su Mu answered his calls were rare. He roamed around the room and, not finding Fu Shinian, asked:
"Has Fu Shinian not come back yet?"
"Are you here for him?"
"No, I came for you, to ask when you are leaving? I need to go back, there’s a ton of work waiting for me at the company."
Su Mu glanced at the time, thinking it was probably time for her to go back too, but she wasn’t sure whether Fu Shinian would return that day. She was about to call and ask when the doorbell rang. Su Mu was about to move, but Wei Shaoqin got to the door first and opened it.
Seeing Fu Shinian standing at the doorway, Wei Shaoqin smiled:
"Mr. Fu, what a coincidence, Su Mu and I were just talking about you."
Hearing Fu Shinian’s name, Su Mu stood up from the sofa, walked to where he could see her, and smiled slightly, "Are you done with your work?"
