Chapter 74: Chapter 74: I Want to See Him, Just Go Home

When Wei Shaoqin called her, Su Mu was hesitating whether or not to return to Bishui Yuntian today. Although it felt quite humiliating, she thought that even if she stayed in Jiang Bei forever, Fu Shinian would never come looking for her. Rather than returning in a downcast manner only to be mocked by him, Su Mu felt it was better to go back sooner.

Seeing Wei Shaoqin’s number, Su Mu answered the call, but her tone was still unfriendly:

"What do you want now?"

"Where are you? I’ll pick you up and take you somewhere."

"Not going."

Wei Shaoqin clicked his tongue from the other end of the phone:

"Su Mu, you couldn’t have forgotten the agreement we made that night, could you?"

Her memory of that night was indeed hazy, and she wasn’t clear on the specifics, but she remembered well enough that she and Wei Shaoqin were even, which was enough for her. Hearing him bring it up, she felt no interest whatsoever:

"Regardless of whatever we said that night, and no matter where you want to take me, I have no interest, goodbye."

Not long after hanging up the phone, the doorbell rang. Su Mu remembered that the household items she had ordered online were due to be delivered today, so she went to open the door. But she never expected Wei Shaoqin to be standing there, wearing a smug expression:

"So you really are here? My guess was spot-on; you and Fu Shinian must be finished for good."

Su Mu, who already didn’t want to see him, felt a sudden and inexplicable irritation at his words and tried to slam the door shut. But Wei Shaoqin had already anticipated her move. He stepped into the room before she could close the door, not even taking the time to change his shoes. Su Mu, who had just finished cleaning, felt a pang in her heart seeing him trample over her clean floor:

"Come here and change your shoes!"

Wei Shaoqin, seeing the footprints he had made behind him, laughed embarrassingly and walked over, "How about I mop it for you again?"

Su Mu couldn’t be bothered with him and closed the door, then walked over and sat down on the sofa:

"What the hell do you want by coming here?"

"Didn’t I say on the phone? I’m taking you somewhere."

"I’m not interested."

Wei Shaoqin looked at her with a half-smile, "What if Fu Shinian is there too?"

Su Mu finally looked him straight in the eye, but said nothing.

Wei Shaoqin sat down beside her, and Su Mu uneasily shifted a bit further away. This movement slightly hurt Wei Shaoqin:

"What do you mean by this? Didn’t we agree that we would just be friends from now on, and that I have put aside any improper thoughts about you? Do you keep up this guard because you want me to keep having thoughts about you?"

Su Mu looked at him suspiciously, her expression undoubtedly telling Wei Shaoqin that she had completely forgotten everything that had happened that evening.

Wei Shaoqin felt defeated but was too lazy to explain. After all, actions always convince more than words. Right now, what mattered was something else:

"The place I’m taking you, are you going or not?"

"Shinian will really be there?"

"If he’s not there, I’ll twist off my head and let you kick it around like a ball, alright?"

Although she still didn’t quite believe what he was saying, Su Mu decided to go with him. Even if it wasn’t for Fu Shinian, she should also go out to clear her mind. If she kept hiding away in Jiang Bei, she felt she would start to mold.

What Su Mu didn’t expect was that Wei Shaoqin would drive her directly to the film studio. Looking out the car window at the buildings from different dynasties, she seemed to understand something:

"Is Qin Nianwan here too?"

"Just realized it, huh?" Wei Shaoqin glanced at her. "She’s been here filming for nearly a month now, haven’t she? How come you don’t care at all about your rival’s movements?"

Su Mu leaned against the car window, decidedly unenthusiastic:

"Why should I care about someone who’s irrelevant?"

"You might think she’s irrelevant, but she might not feel the same about you. Perhaps your every move is under Qin Nianwan’s scrutiny. I’m not kidding, if you care about Fu Shinian, then you should be careful. Don’t wait until it’s too late and he’s been snatched away. None of these people in the entertainment industry are simple."

After all, who could rise to prominence in such a complicated environment without being complex themselves?

Wei Shaoqin didn’t stay long in the film city. He drove straight to the chain hotel at the Junyue, located within the film city. Su Mu looked at the sign outside the window and frowned slightly:

"What’s the meaning of this?"

"To get a room," Wei Shaoqin said matter-of-factly, completely oblivious to Su Mu’s displeased expression. "We’re staying here tonight and going back in a couple of days."

Signs of anger began to show in Su Mu:

"Wei Shaoqin, what exactly are you trying to do?"

Wei Shaoqin looked at her. "You don’t think I’d do something to you, do you? I’ve already told you, I no longer fantasize about you sexually. Even if you don’t trust my word, you should at least have some confidence in my intelligence, don’t you think? If I really wanted to do something to you, did I need to bring you all the way here?"

"Who knows what you’re up to." Su Mu showed no intention of getting out of the car. "I want to go back."

"Don’t want to see Fu Shinian anymore?"

Su Mu was silent for a few seconds. "I do want to see him, but I don’t need to come here for that."

"Then don’t you want to know why Fu Shinian came to the place where Qin Nianwan is filming?"

To say she wasn’t curious would require Su Mu to have completely given up hope on Fu Shinian. However, Su Mu vividly recognized her inner feelings. Despite feeling disappointment, anger, and resentments towards Fu Shinian, she never entertained the thought of giving up.

After all, he was the man she had loved throughout her youth.

Wei Shaoqin didn’t speak. He believed Su Mu would figure it out. If she still insisted on going back, he certainly wouldn’t stop her, but that would prove one thing: Su Mu’s feelings for Fu Shinian weren’t that deep, or perhaps she had already grown utterly disillusioned.

Only when a person no longer had any impact on her would she cease to be curious about anything to do with him.

Clearly, Su Mu still cared about Fu Shinian. After stewing in silence for a few minutes, she finally pushed open the car door, got out, and walked straight towards the hotel.

She hadn’t rested long in the room when Wei Shaoqin knocked on her door. "Shall we go have dinner?"

At the dinner table, it wasn’t just Su Mu and Wei Shaoqin; there was also a tall, slender woman whom Su Mu recognized. The female star Sun Raorao, who recently had high popularity and was much talked about, she was earlier thought of as an aloof goddess, but seeing her flaunt a subservient and ingratiating attitude towards Wei Shaoqin revealed that it was all just a facade.

Seeing Su Mu’s lack of interest, Wei Shaoqin took the initiative to strike up a conversation with Sun Raorao:

"Has Qin Nianwan been bullying you recently?"

Su Mu glanced over, noticing the change in Sun Raorao’s demeanor from her previously cheerful appearance to a gloomy one:

"It’s the same old story. Acting high and mighty just because she’s backed by the Fu Corporation; since the entire drama is funded by them, neither the producer nor the director dare to say anything. In such a situation, all I can do is endure."

Wei Shaoqin looked at Su Mu:

"And how has Fu Shinian been treating her?"

"He must be treating her well. They talk on the phone every day. From what she says, it sounds like Mr. Fu will even visit the set tomorrow."
