Chapter 629: Alive
Chapter 629: Chapter 629: Alive
During this period, it wasn’t that Fu Shinian hadn’t received calls from unfamiliar numbers, but they were either wrong numbers or calls from acquaintances using different numbers. Fu Shinian had already lost hope. Yet, when he saw the string of numbers on the screen this time, an unprecedented tension surged in him for no apparent reason.
Su Mu seemed to sense his emotions too. She looked at him, wanting to say something, but the words stuck at the tip of her tongue and she ultimately remained silent. Still, it was clear her emotions had been affected as well, to the extent that her hands were trembling slightly.
The calm surface of her heart, it turned out, couldn’t even withstand the weight of a small stone.
Retracting his gaze from Su Mu’s face, Fu Shinian pressed the answer button. He had intended to answer the call alone, not wanting to disappoint Su Mu. Yet, at the very instant he pressed the answer button, even he couldn’t explain why he immediately switched it to speaker mode.
Thus, at the same time, both Su Mu and Fu Shinian heard a voice from the other end of the phone: "Daddy..."
Qiqi.
It was Qiqi.
It was Qiqi’s voice.
This was the first instruction transmitted to Fu Shinian and Su Mu’s minds. But perhaps because it was too unbelievable, or maybe they thought it was an auditory illusion, neither of them spoke initially, as though this very moment was a beautiful dream, and a single word from them might shatter it.
Fu Shinian was the first to react. When he spoke, even he hadn’t realized his voice was hoarse and choked with emotion. He cautiously asked:
"Qiqi?"
"Daddy, I miss you so much..."
Fu Shinian’s tears fell instantly: "Where are you? Qiqi, where are you..."
Before Fu Shinian could finish speaking, Su Mu grabbed the phone from his hand. She held it delicately, as if the phone itself cradled her precious daughter. There were countless questions she wanted to ask Qiqi, yet the moment she spoke, she realized the only thing that mattered most to her at that moment was:
"Qiqi, are you okay?"
"Mommy..." The wooden voice also began to choke with emotion: "Mommy, I miss you so much..."
"Mommy misses you too, I’ve been looking for you, I..."
"Su Mu." The voice on the other end was no longer Qiqi’s. Instead, it became the voice of someone Su Mu wished she could tear to pieces—Qin Nianwan. She let out a soft laugh: "Surprised? Your daughter is still alive and well, isn’t she? Honestly, I’m surprised myself. I thought I would kill her right away, but I didn’t. I have to admit I’m impressed by my own restraint."
"What do you want? Whatever you want, take it out on me! Just don’t hurt Qiqi. I’ll take her place, okay? You can do whatever you want to me, just please don’t hurt my child."
Qin Nianwan said nothing further, only letting out a contemptuous laugh:
"The day after tomorrow, Shen City Central Bus Station. I’ll be waiting there. Alone. Don’t notify the police, and don’t bring anyone else."
Without waiting for Su Mu to ask more, Qin Nianwan hung up the call. Even though Su Mu knew the phone had already disconnected, she desperately continued to call out Qiqi’s name, as if by doing so, Qiqi would respond.
It wasn’t until Fu Shinian approached from behind and gently took the phone out of Su Mu’s hand that she finally woke up as if from a dream. Clutching Fu Shinian’s hand tightly, her eyes brimmed red:
"Did you hear it? Did you hear it? Qiqi’s voice—she’s alive. She called me ’Mommy,’ she called you ’Daddy,’ she’s alive."
"Yes." Fu Shinian was also filled with emotion, replying to Su Mu several times. But he knew there was something even more urgent to do: "Susu, you need to calm down. I’m going to call the police immediately."
Su Mu hastily nodded and released Fu Shinian’s hand:
"Right, right. You call—go ahead, call them."
Fu Shinian began explaining the phone call to the police, but Su Mu couldn’t calm down. Her heart was already in turmoil, filled with roaring waves. The thought that Qiqi was still alive became her sole focus. After hearing Qiqi’s voice again after a month, she couldn’t express her emotions clearly but felt like she had been revived.
Even though Qiqi hadn’t returned to her yet, there was at least news of her—and she was alive.
After hanging up with the police, Fu Shinian saw that Su Mu was still overwhelmed, not knowing where to place her hands and feet in her excitement. He reached out and held her hands:
"Now that we have some news, we will definitely bring Qiqi back."
Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian, her face wet with tears, and nodded fervently:
"Yes, Qiqi will come back."
When they returned to Bishui Yuntian, Qiao Yu and the others, who had already gotten the news from the police, were waiting. Upon seeing them, they tensely rose from the sofa but didn’t speak. After all, what they had heard was that there had been a call to Su Shiyue’s phone, and Qiqi had spoken. But the details were unclear, so they had rushed over to confirm the good news.
However, upon seeing Fu Shinian and Su Mu, none of them dared to ask questions. They weren’t sure if the news was true, nor did they want their inquiries to upset Su Mu further when she was just starting to recover.
Amid everyone’s concern, Su Mu looked at them, her gaze finally landing on Jiang Bei, who was staring at her worriedly. She wanted to smile, but ultimately, tears streamed down her face first. She walked over and hugged Jiang Bei tightly, crying her heart out:
"Xiaobei, Xiaobei... Qiqi is alive... she’s alive."
Su Mu’s sobs confirmed what the police had reported, and everyone’s eyes turned red. Wei Shaoqin, his eyes misted, turned his gaze away from Su Mu and instead looked at Fu Shinian. He was still unable to believe this and needed to confirm it once more:
"Is it true?"
Fu Shinian, barely able to contain his own emotions, wasn’t much calmer than Su Mu. Though he didn’t want to completely expose his feelings in front of everyone, he nodded strongly:
"Yes, we heard Qiqi’s voice. We also spoke to her—she’s doing fine."
"Shit!" Ji Nanfeng swore through teary eyes. He didn’t know how else to express his emotions, so he stepped forward and hugged Fu Shinian tightly, patting his back: "This is great."
Fu Shinian nodded. To be honest, even he hadn’t expected such a sudden turn of events.
Though everyone was overjoyed at hearing news of Qiqi, their joy quickly evolved into calmness. After all, while they now knew Qiqi hadn’t been seriously harmed, she was still in Qin Nianwan’s hands. No one could predict what Qin Nianwan intended to do or what might happen next.
Qiao Yu spoke first:
"Before, we didn’t know Qiqi’s situation. Now that we have information, we can’t let this slip away."
