Chapter 611: Did You Bring Qiqi Back?

Chapter 611: Chapter 611: Did You Bring Qiqi Back?

Fu Shinian’s expression was heavy, but Su Mu deliberately avoided thinking about what it might mean. She asked Fu Shinian:

"Where’s Qiqi? Where’s Qiqi? Did you bring her back?"

Fu Shinian shook his head. "Susu, calm down."

"How can I calm down!" Su Mu shouted, but immediately felt that she shouldn’t have. Yet the anxiety, worry, and even pain in her chest were tearing at her with such force that she felt on the verge of collapse. She looked at Fu Shinian, opened her mouth to apologize, but suddenly thought of something:

"Wen Shaoyuan, did you call Wen Shaoyuan? Qiqi might have gone to find him; you know she likes him the most."

In truth, Su Mu herself probably knew Qiqi couldn’t be with Wen Shaoyuan—after all, Qiqi had been taken away by Yu Xin. But there was always hope. What if Qiqi was still angry with her, trying to scare them deliberately? What if she had asked Yu Xin to take her to Wen Shaoyuan?

It wasn’t impossible.

Only Fu Shinian’s expression remained unchanged by Su Mu’s words. He simply looked at her:

"Wen Han is downstairs. Let’s go down and talk."

Fu Shinian’s words had barely left his mouth before Su Mu pushed past him and stormed downstairs. Fu Shinian watched her back, lowered his head, wiping away the wetness at the corner of his eyes, and then stepped into the room to help Jiang Bei up from the bed:

"Sorry, Susu has lost her composure. Later, let Qiao Yu take a look; hopefully, it won’t be anything serious."

"I don’t matter," Jiang Bei looked at Fu Shinian. "If we don’t find Qiqi, Susu will lose her mind."

Fu Shinian nodded heavily after a few seconds:

"I know, we’ll find her."

Jiang Bei looked at Fu Shinian but said nothing. Perhaps even he hadn’t realized how uncertain his own words sounded.

It had been nearly 12 hours since Qiqi’s disappearance. In 12 hours, too much could happen—too many unexpected turns. This uncertainty had caused Fu Shinian, who was always in control, to lose his confidence. After leaving the kindergarten, he had personally gone to the police station and the traffic patrol team to investigate surrounding surveillance footage. But so far, there was no news.

Every connection had been tapped, every method tried. Now, there was very little they could do.

Downstairs, the moment Su Mu saw Wen Han, she rushed toward him with such force that she nearly fell. Thankfully, Qiao Yu was quick enough to catch her, preventing any injury. But Su Mu didn’t even have time to thank him; she clutched Wen Han’s hand tightly and looked at him with desperate hope:

"Is Qiqi with Shaoyuan? Is she? Are the two kids playing hide-and-seek with us?"

Wen Han desperately wanted to say "yes." But reality was often too cruel to be accepted. He looked at Su Mu and spoke:

"Shaoyuan is missing too."

Su Mu stared at Wen Han, stunned for a full minute. She could barely comprehend the meaning of Wen Han’s words. In the end, Fu Shinian came downstairs to help her onto the sofa. Only then did he explain:

"Shaoyuan had taken leave from his teacher ahead of time since he was supposed to go to the resort. He, like Qiqi, didn’t go to school. The school’s surveillance footage shows Shaoyuan went to find Qiqi shortly after Yu Xin took her away. He went in the same direction; they were likely taken together."

Fu Shinian’s explanation made Su Mu think back to last night: the plans they carefully made and why everything fell apart; the words she and Fu Shinian exchanged during their argument; the expression Qiqi had given her. Agonized, she clutched at her own hair, painfully and forcefully, punishing herself. Fu Shinian tried to stop her, but he couldn’t—she was self-harming, punishing herself:

"It’s my fault, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have argued with you; I shouldn’t have said it was just an act. I shouldn’t have failed to explain things properly to Qiqi last night. I shouldn’t have let her go to school with such sadness in her heart. I shouldn’t have let her out of my sight. I shouldn’t have canceled the travel plans. If I hadn’t done these things, Qiqi wouldn’t have been taken, and Shaoyuan wouldn’t have... It’s all my fault."

Su Mu’s self-blame was like two knives: one stabbing deep into Fu Shinian’s chest, the other into Wen Han’s heart—sharp and merciless.

If Su Mu was at fault, then Fu Shinian was too. Without Fu Shinian, there wouldn’t have been an argument. If Fu Shinian was at fault, then Wen Han was too. He shouldn’t have called Su Mu to go to the hospital. He shouldn’t have called her last night to meet Zhou Yaxian. If Wen Han was at fault, then Zhou Yaxian was the instigator. If not for Zhou Yaxian’s erratic behavior and dramatic outburst, Su Mu and Fu Shinian wouldn’t have argued, and the travel plans wouldn’t have been canceled.

If none of that had happened, they would now be sitting contentedly in the resort, enjoying a beautiful moment together.

But what was done was done. There were no "ifs."

And even if there were, the future would remain unpredictable.

Su Shiyue had been silently standing to one side, watching Su Mu’s breakdown. Her tears hadn’t stopped flowing. Finally, unable to hold back any longer, she walked up to Su Mu and knelt down:

"It’s my fault, sister-in-law. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have left Qiqi at the door and just walked away. I should have taken her to the classroom, handed her over to Teacher Wang, and made sure everyone knew she was there. If I had taken her to the classroom, Yu Xin wouldn’t have had a chance to take her."

Su Shiyue’s words brought Su Mu partially back to her senses. Regaining some clarity, she couldn’t understand why Yu Xin had taken Qiqi. What did she want? Between the adults and the children, there seemed to be no grudges or grievances. So what was Yu Xin’s motive for taking Qiqi and Wen Shaoyuan?

For money? If this were kidnapping, why hadn’t they received a phone call yet? But if it wasn’t for money, it could only be for murder.

This possibility sent chills down Su Mu’s spine. She gripped Fu Shinian’s hand tightly and looked at him:

"Yu Xin—have you investigated her? Who is she? Why would she do this?"

"We investigated, but there’s still no news," Fu Shinian looked at Su Mu. "On her first day on the job, you said she looked familiar. I had Song Yi check her background—but nothing came up. Now it’s obvious the check wasn’t thorough enough; we didn’t find anything useful."

Fu Shinian’s words made Su Shiyue stop crying. She looked at Su Mu:

"Sister-in-law, do you also think she looks familiar?"

Su Mu looked at Su Shiyue but didn’t respond, though it was evident she hesitated. Su Shiyue said: "I also think she looks familiar, like I’ve seen her somewhere before. But I just can’t remember."

Fu Shinian recalled the surveillance footage he had seen earlier:

"Before you left the kindergarten, you turned back and said a few words to her. What did you say?"

"Not much. I asked her if we had met before. She said you had already asked her the same question."
