Chapter 603: Chapter 603: It’s Hard to Say Right Here
Ji Qingluan was driving to the company when at the traffic light she stopped the car and her gaze casually wandered over the surrounding crowd. Suddenly, she spotted a familiar small figure standing by a car on the curb, talking to a woman.
"Is Shaoyuan not having classes today?" This was the first thought that crossed Ji Qingluan’s mind because the woman facing Wen Shaoyuan had her back to Ji Qingluan, who couldn’t be certain if she knew her or not. However, something about the scene in front of her felt very odd to Ji Qingluan.
But before she could ponder the matter, the light turned green, and the cars behind her had already started honking their horns. Ji Qingluan had no choice but to drive on, but she also couldn’t ignore Wen Shaoyuan’s safety. Thus, she planned to take a turn at the upcoming intersection to check on him. Maybe it was due to her urgency, or perhaps someone had been plotting all along, so she didn’t notice the person by the road who had been waiting for an opportunity to suddenly crash into the front of her car.
Ji Qingluan was startled and after catching her breath, she grabbed her phone, opened the door, and got out of the car.
She first checked on the person who was hit to make sure there were no serious problems before looking back in Wen Shaoyuan’s direction. This time, Wen Shaoyuan seemed to have gotten into some kind of argument with the woman. From a distance, Ji Qingluan could see that Wen Shaoyuan wanted to leave, but the woman shoved him into the car without any explanation.
Alarmed, Ji Qingluan forgot everything else and was about to run over when the person on the ground clutched onto her leg tightly and shouted loudly:
"Someone hit me and is trying to flee! There’s no justice in this society, rich people don’t take our lives seriously at all!"
At this moment, Ji Qingluan realized that she hadn’t actually hit anyone, and the woman clutching her leg was one of those scammers often mentioned in the news. Under normal circumstances, she would’ve argued with such a person, at the very least to teach her a lesson. But this time, Ji Qingluan had no time for that. She was worried that any further delay might put Wen Shaoyuan in danger. So, she quickly pulled out her wallet and, without a word, handed it to the woman.
The woman had initially planned to take the money and run, but seeing Ji Qingluan’s urgency and easygoing attitude, she realized that she had encountered what was colloquially known as an easy mark. Judging by Ji Qingluan’s car and attire, she was certainly wealthy. So, there was no way she could let Ji Qingluan just walk away so easily.
Just as Ji Qingluan started to move away, she was unexpectedly caught by the woman again, almost being pulled down, and the phone in her hand flew out, landing heavily on the road. In the next second, a speeding car crushed the phone to pieces.
Now beyond caring, Ji Qingluan saw the woman start the car and knew that any further delay could be too late. So, without bothering to reason with the character before her any longer, she harshly shrugged off the woman, got back in her car, shifted into reverse, turned around, and followed the car driven by Yu Xin.
After the car got on the elevated road and headed straight for the suburbs, Ji Qingluan, sensing more danger than luck, thought of calling Wen Han to send help, but she couldn’t feel her phone anywhere. That’s when she remembered her phone had been knocked out of her hand by the scammer and was utterly crushed.
On the highway, Ji Qingluan couldn’t possibly stop to borrow a phone from someone else. Even if she got out of her car, others might not stop, and she was worried about losing sight of the car ahead. So, she had no choice but to follow without being able to notify anyone.
In the car, Wen Shaoyuan’s worries didn’t last long, as he quickly fell asleep beside Qiqi. There were sedatives inside the vehicle, but Yu Xin had taken precautions earlier while rifling through her bag, allowing herself to remain conscious.
After glancing at the rearview mirror at the situation in the back seat, Yu Xin slightly furrowed her brow. Her objective was solely Su Yimo, intending to use her to achieve her own goals, yet, unexpectedly, Wen Shaoyuan also got involved. She knew the more people there were, the greater the risk, but leaving Wen Shaoyuan behind could pose an even bigger risk to herself, so she had no choice but to proceed in this manner.
She would come up with another plan upon reaching their destination.
After the car exited the highway, Yu Xin drove straight onto a deserted path, overgrown and barely recognizable as a road. Ji Qingluan didn’t dare follow too closely, worried about detection, yet the area was devoid of any human presence, not a soul in sight, sending a chill down her spine. The odds might be against them, but she couldn’t just stand by and watch Wen Shaoyuan suffer this ordeal.
After about another thirty minutes, Ji Qingluan spotted the car in front finally slowing to a stop at an abandoned underground parking garage. Not daring to park too close, she turned off her engine under a tree lush with foliage, which made her car nearly invisible unless one paid close attention.
Ji Qingluan got out of the car and walked a few steps forward, observing someone exiting the underground garage to open the car door.
The man seemed momentarily surprised, then spoke a few words with Yu Xin who had just stepped out. He then proceeded to carry Wen Shaoyuan out of the car, heading into the parking garage, and as Ji Qingluan was about to follow, the woman emerged holding a child. From a distance, Ji Qingluan couldn’t discern the child’s appearance, but given the stature, being with Wen Shaoyuan, Ji Qingluan almost immediately thought it must be Qiqi.
With both children in their hands, Ji Qingluan felt her heart sink even further.
She thought about calling the police, but without a phone; she considered driving back for help, yet the location was too far from the city center. Ji Qingluan couldn’t be sure that upon her return, they wouldn’t have already changed locations, which would make finding them again far from easy. It would place both the Wen Family and the Fu Family in a more passive situation.
Ji Qingluan dared not leave, nor could she. Her only option was to find an opportunity to quietly rescue the two children.
Surrounding the underground parking garage were only demolished walls and ruins, offering no cover for Ji Qingluan if she approached and making it easy for her to be spotted if they came out. Yet, standing idly from afar wasn’t a solution. Ji Qingluan weighed her options and took a self-defense spray from the car, holding it in her hand as she quietly crept closer.
The underground parking garage had two levels. Ji Qingluan thoroughly scouted the entrance for a long time, making sure they weren’t on the first level and that there were no sounds, before quietly slipping in. The moment she entered, the light slowly faded away, leaving only a faint glow. Ji Qingluan suddenly remembered the kidnapping of Su Mu three years earlier.
It was also an underground parking garage, but whether it was this one, she couldn’t be sure.
