Chapter 56: Chapter 56 My Money, Really A Lot
Wei Shaoqin glanced at his watch on his wrist, realizing that it had been 5 hours since he left the hospital. If Fu Shinian had arrived at the hospital within an hour, that meant he and Su Mu had spent 4 hours together. Wei Shaoqin felt it was unlikely that Fu Shinian was just there to tickle Su Mu.
"Mr. Fu wouldn’t have called just to show off, would he?"
"That was part of my intention."
Wei Shaoqin gritted his teeth, holding back a retort when suddenly he heard Fu Shinian speak slowly:
"On the other hand, I’ve heard that Junior President Wei is interested in that plot of land at the southern part of Shen City near Mt. Jing?"
Probably because he had been outsmarted once before, the moment Fu Shinian said this Wei Shaoqin subconsciously felt he was trying to compete for the land once again. Instantly, without thinking too much, he hit back:
"Fu Shinian, everyone says you’re broad-minded and have grand visions, but why do I feel like you’re the type to hold grudges? How many obstacles have you put in my way for the sake of a woman? Take that piece of land in Lin Hai, for example. You bought it for 20 billion and it’s just sitting there unused. Do you really have that much money to burn just to spite me?"
Fu Shinian laughed softly:
"Well, I do have a lot of money."
Wei Shaoqin: "...Fine, hang up, I have nothing to say to you."
"Doesn’t Junior President Wei want to hear what I have to say next?"
Wei Shaoqin snorted and hung up the phone. He restrained himself from smashing the phone and kicked the wall a few times to vent his frustration. Before he could step into the private room, his phone received a text message.
From Fu Shinian—
There’s a Ming Dynasty tomb beneath the Mt. Jing plot of land.
Wei Shaoqin was startled, as the plot of land involved many aspects. Without a second thought for the anger the person on the other end had just provoked, he redialed immediately, a barrage of questions ready to burst forth, but unexpectedly...
Fu Shinian didn’t answer the phone.
"Damn it!" Wei Shaoqin wanted to throw the phone several times, pacing the hallway like a madman, but in the end, he held back, because he needed to know whether what Fu Shinian said was true or false.
He swallowed all his anger and patiently dialed Fu Shinian’s number again, only to hear the mechanical female voice say ’the number you have dialed is not in the service area’.
In that moment, Wei Shaoqin knew he had been blacklisted.
Finally, Wei Shaoqin smashed the phone.
The shattered phone dissipated all his frustration, but the problem still lay before him. Wei Shaoqin cursed again and went back to the private room to borrow someone else’s phone, and called Fu Shinian again. It wasn’t because Wei Shaoqin had any sort of fixation on Fu Shinian, which was why he remembered his number, nor was it due to a particularly good memory; it was simply because Fu Shinian’s phone number was exceptionally easy to remember. Apart from the first few digits which were the standard Shen City prefix, the rest were all the uniform number 8, which was hard not to make a lasting impression.
The call went through, being blacklisted became a fact, but fortunately, Fu Shinian answered.
After taking a deep breath, Wei Shaoqin began:
"What did you mean by what you said just now, Mr. Fu?"
Fu Shinian had enough of teasing him and didn’t want to waste more time, so he replied directly:
"I don’t know what the project department under Junior President Wei is doing exactly, but the fact that they couldn’t even detect problems in the most basic foundation survey and still listed this piece of land as a top choice is truly impressive to me."
Wei Shaoqin: "Why should I believe you?"
"Of course, you can choose not to believe me, so please make sure you buy that piece of land as soon as possible, and then proceed with the original development plan. But before that, shall we make a bet? Let’s bet on how long it will take before the Archaeological Association, and the cultural heritage department send you a notice demanding you to indefinitely halt the development."
Wei Shaoqin had been listening without uttering a word, and for a moment he thought he was being played by Fu Shinian, but then he thought that Shinian probably wouldn’t bother with such pettiness. However, with such significant news, why would Fu Shinian tell him? Knowing there was a trap ahead but still prepared to jump in, seemed to be more beneficial for Shinian to watch him do so.
"How did you come to know of this matter?"
"Is that important? What’s important is that I’ve given you this information, saving you a significant sum of money. Junior President Wei, you should thank me."
Wei Shaoqin responded:
"I will look into it."
Fu Shinian hung up the phone the next second.
Wei Shaoqin, however, had lost his mood for drinking, hastily said goodbye to his friends, and went straight to his company. He commanded his staff to give him an answer in the shortest time possible, then he waited in his office for news.
After hanging up on Wei Shaoqin, Fu Shinian stood silently in the hallway for a few seconds. Then he remembered he had originally intended to call Song Yi, and so he composed a WeChat message and sent it out:
"Locate Su Shiyue, cancel her flight for tomorrow."
But what Fu Shinian didn’t know was that at the moment he notified Song Yi, Su Shiyue had already arrived at the airport, waiting to board her flight. No one knew she had changed her flight, and no one knew she was leaving the country overnight.
She didn’t dare not to leave. Even now, sitting in the departure lounge with only half an hour until her boarding time, her heart still pounded furiously, fearing that any second Fu Shinian’s people might appear. But what filled her chest even more was anger; she had people investigate Su Mu and Wei Shaoqin for nearly a month, knew Wei was a hedonistic playboy who had designs on Su Mu, and even discovered the past incident of Su Mu’s abduction.
She had thought that by giving Wei such a good opportunity, he definitely wouldn’t let it pass; but for reasons unknown, it seemed he had short-circuited, opting to take Su Mu to the hospital instead. Su Shiyue seriously suspected that he was not at all like society depicted him. It was more likely that he was impotent.
If she had known this would be the outcome, she would not have given him such an opportunity and would have been better off finding some hobos; her investment in expensive, pinhole cameras was wasted, capturing not a single useful frame and discovered by Shinian to boot.
Qin Nianwan called just at that moment, and Su Shiyue glanced at the screen, pressed the answer button, and an air of grievance immediately rose:
"Sister Nianwan..."
Qin Nianwan was not oblivious to what Shiyue was planning to do to Su Mu. Shiyue had talked to her about it, and she had made a token effort to advise her, to no avail, of course. Now that Shiyue was about to go abroad, Nianwan’s call was a sort of consolation:
"Yueyue, don’t be anxious. You listen to your brother, go to England and study well. I will choose an opportune time to speak with him to let you come back."
"Sister Nianwan, after I leave, there will be no one to help you. You must take good care of yourself and not let Su Mu hurt you."
Qin Nianwan smiled slightly:
"Alright."
