Chapter 531: Chapter 531: Girls Can Be Smitten Too
The atmosphere was quiet for a moment, but Fu Shinian kept holding Su Mu’s hand, leaning back against the sofa with his eyes closed, seemingly very tired. Su Mu glanced at him quietly, realizing that her own feelings differed significantly from those before his business trip.
During the past half-month, Fu Shinian called every day, speaking sweet nothings that he had never said before. Su Mu, a very ordinary girl, couldn’t possibly remain completely indifferent to those words, especially coming from a man like Fu Shinian, who, if he aimed to please, was likely difficult for anyone to resist.
The frustration she felt earlier seemed irrelevant now. At this moment, as she watched the calm Fu Shinian, Su Mu felt that she actually liked this atmosphere and could accept it, rather than maintain her previous attitude of rejection.
The things she did not want to confront in the elevator seemed to find their answer at the sight of Fu Shinian. Her disappointment from earlier was simply because she knew of his return but he had not informed her. She had been holding her breath, not contacting him, which was one of the reasons she had firmly decided not to return to Bishui Yuntian today.
Although she didn’t want to admit it.
Su Mu’s heart was in turmoil, so much that she wanted to flee, but she couldn’t show it. Instead, she forced herself to remain as calm and relaxed as possible. Glancing at her watch, she couldn’t help but speak up:
"It’s getting late. You should go back early."
Hearing this, Fu Shinian slowly opened his eyes and glanced at Su Mu with a faint smile:
"Think I’m tired?"
"A bit, you should rest early."
"Do you know that I drove here by myself today? It’s 11 pm now. With my condition, do you feel at ease if I drive back at this time?"
Su Mu frowned slightly, seeming to understand his intention— he wanted to stay.
"Don’t try to convince me with acting tricks. I won’t leave today," said Fu Shinian, pulling her hand forcefully and embracing her tightly: "Su Mu, you haven’t answered my question earlier. Did you miss me, even if just for a second?"
Su Mu struggled a few times but failed to break free from Fu Shinian’s embrace, so she gave up. However, the decision to answer his question was still in her hands. After a few seconds of silence, she said:
"What about Qiqi? Didn’t she go to find you? Does she agree with you coming here?"
Knowing that Su Mu was changing the subject, Fu Shinian chuckled softly, gently stroking her hair, his voice very soft:
"Qiqi just wanted to see me. After sticking around for a while, she found me not so entertaining. Compared to me, she prefers her Great Grandmother and little aunt. She was overjoyed to know I was coming to see you, so don’t send me away. If she knows I came here and wakes up tomorrow to find me by her side, she might think we had a fight."
By Fu Shinian’s attitude from before, Su Mu already knew he wouldn’t leave tonight, no matter what she said. So she just listened to his so-called considerate reasons for Qiqi, but strangely, she didn’t feel any aversion to Fu Shinian staying over.
"Tonight you’ll sleep in Qiqi’s room."
Fu Shinian smiled: "Alright, I’ll sleep in Qiqi’s room."
Su Mu looked up at him, perhaps surprised that he was so obedient for once, and out of curiosity. As Fu Shinian lowered his gaze to meet hers, a moment of heartfelt desire passed, and he leaned in to kiss her but was preemptively stopped by Su Mu’s hand as she realized his intent. Somewhat flustered, Su Mu rose from his embrace, gave him a glance:
"I’m going to take a shower."
Fu Shinian smiled: "Okay."
Su Mu eyed him suspiciously as Fu Shinian returned the look, slightly raising his eyebrow: "Why are you staring at me like that?"
"If we weren’t living in the modern era, if I didn’t believe in science, I would think that the person standing before me has been possessed by something unclean."
At her words, Fu Shinian also stood up, his deep eyes intensely gazing at her from a close distance, the corners of his mouth lifted slightly:
"Do you like my change?"
Su Mu looked at him but didn’t speak.
"Su Mu," Fu Shinian said, "the truth is, I haven’t changed. If it weren’t for those incidents three years ago, I would have acted the same towards you. Everything I do now is just to express my feelings, to let you know that ’I like you’ and ’I love you’."
At that moment, every other sound in Su Mu’s world seemed to disappear, replaced only by the amplifying sound of her heart racing.
This seemed to be the first time Fu Shinian had so directly said ’I like you’ and ’I love you’ to Su Mu.
Su Mu had never imagined that these simple words could be so impactful, leaving her stiff on the spot, utterly unsure how to react.
Fu Shinian showed patience like never before, smiling as he watched Su Mu freeze because of his words. He seemed quite satisfied with the effect, and the smile on his lips stayed. Eventually, Su Mu returned to her senses but couldn’t bear to glance at Fu Shinian again, hurriedly making her way to the bathroom.
Only after the bathroom door closed and the sound of water started did Fu Shinian pinch his brow and laugh softly to himself, pleased that the effect was even better than he’d anticipated. He thought if he had known this, he would have confessed earlier.
But now was good, too. After the separation of the past half-month, his confession might hold a more potent magic straight to the heart.
Su Mu stood under the shower head in the bathroom, letting the water pour down from above. She hadn’t even managed to take off her clothes; she felt an urgent need to wake herself up with something. She couldn’t forget her determination towards Fu Shinian; she said she would never look back, and she had no intention of forgetting Fu Shinian’s cold-heartedness from three years ago. But in addition to the cold-heartedness, the two scars he bore were inescapable torments for her.
Her previously solid defenses seemed to have simply collapsed due to a sentence from Fu Shinian. She felt both unwilling and afraid.
She knew and could fully feel Fu Shinian’s changes; she believed they were genuine because she was not worthy enough to have him put on an act to use her. He was doing this because he felt it was worth it.
Su Mu could be moved, could feel as if in a dream with a young girl’s thoughts. However, she feared more the moment of awakening than having these long-desired dreams. She could withstand it three years ago, but if any mishaps occurred today, Su Mu didn’t have the confidence to make it through.
