Chapter 50: Chapter 50 I’ve been too good to you!

Su Mu didn’t know if she could accept it; all she knew was that when faced with Fu Shinian’s hints, she still felt nervous, she would subconsciously resist, and she thought that it would be for the best if nothing happened.

But Su Mu could very well see Fu Shinian’s restraint and desire, and she really wanted to flee. But how long could she run, and where to? As Fu Shinian had said, it was impossible for him to always suppress his desires.

Just as she was about to say they could try, Fu Shinian suddenly changed his mind:

"Forget it."

Su Mu looked at him in surprise, clearly not expecting him to let her off the hook, for he had never cared about her wishes before.

Fu Shinian had wanted her for a long time, having abstained for a very long period; to say he didn’t desire her would surely be a lie, or there was something physically wrong with him. However, remembering that Qiao Yu had told him to respect Su Mu, and thinking of how she had always shown restraint in love, he decided to take things slowly.

If there was no improvement in Su Mu’s attitude, this time things might get worse, making his previous restraint a waste, so since he had already suppressed his feelings up to this point, he didn’t mind waiting a bit longer.

"Do you look disappointed?"

Su Mu lowered her head, avoiding looking at him: "No."

Her shy demeanor made Fu Shinian almost lose control, especially since she was standing before him, barely clothed; he took a few deep breaths, but ultimately he gave in to his desire, grasped her hand and placed it on his lower abdomen, leaning in to whisper in her ear:

"With your hand."

——

The next day, Song Yi came to Bishui Yuntian to pick up Fu Shinian for the trip to the company. Halfway through the drive, Fu Shinian received a call from Qin Nianwan.

"Shinian, is it convenient to meet up? I’m about to join the production set and wanted to say goodbye in person."

Fu Shinian looked at his watch, realizing he was short on time: "I have a meeting this morning; if you’re free, you can come to the office."

"Alright, I’ll head over now."

Fu Shinian thought he wouldn’t see Qin Nianwan until after his meeting ended, but no sooner had he just walked into his office than the intercom buzzed, informing him that Miss Qin had arrived. He told them to let her in.

Five minutes later, Qin Nianwan and her agent Chen Jie were ushered into the office by Song Yi. Fu Shinian, who was looking at the stock market trends, looked up when he heard them:

"So early?"

"I have scenes to film early tomorrow, and Chen Jie thought it would be good for me to get acquainted with the set ahead of time."

Fu Shinian stood up and gestured for them to take a seat on the sofa in the reception area:

"I heard that Agent Chen doesn’t like accompanying artists on set; is this an exception?"

Chen Jie smiled lightly:

"I don’t usually, but since the company only signed Qin Nianwan, it seems like I have nothing else to focus on if not her. Plus, with you, Mr. Fu, supporting her with fashion and film resources, I might as well have become quite the idler."

Fu Shinian smiled faintly, turning to Qin Nianwan:

"Filming is tough; take good care of yourself and contact me anytime if you need anything."

Qin Nianwan smiled contentedly: "Okay."

At that moment, Song Yi knocked on the door to remind Fu Shinian that it was time for his meeting. Not wanting to disturb him further, Qin Nianwan stood up from the sofa: "Then you go ahead with your work; Chen Jie and I will head out first. I’ll come to see you when I have time, and you can also visit the set."

Fu Shinian nodded without standing up.

As Qin Nianwan was about to leave, picking up her purse, she noticed that Chen Jie remained seated and hadn’t moved, prompting her to remind her: "Chen Jie?"

Chen Jie, as if she hadn’t heard her, continued looking at Fu Shinian:

"Mr. Fu, there’s something I think it’d be better to confirm with you, to avoid unnecessary trouble later on."

Fu Shinian gestured subtly with his hand to Song Yi, who understood and left the room; then he turned his attention to Chen Jie: "Go ahead."

"Last night, Nianwan received a text message from Mrs. Fu."

Fu Shinian’s demeanor remained unchanged, calm, as he simply asked:

"What was the content?"

Chen Jie hesitated for a few seconds, expecting Fu Shinian to deny having a wife, yet he didn’t, implicitly confirming the existence of the marriage. It turned out that the text message on Qin Nianwan’s phone was no prank; the business prodigy had secretly married without anyone knowing.

Chen Jie regained her composure and reached out for Qin Nianwan’s phone, but Nianwan was reluctant to hand it over, looking annoyed:

"Chen Jie, why bring this up? I’ve already deleted the message."

"It doesn’t matter if you’ve deleted it; I have a good memory." Chen Jie looked at Fu Shinian: "Mr. Fu, when you entrusted Qin Nianwan to me, it was a sign of your trust, and I am grateful for your recognition of me. However, I prefer to be clear about things in my work, so if I say anything out of line, please don’t mind."

Fu Shinian smiled slightly, signaling for her to continue.

"From the very start of Qin Nianwan’s selection process, you put her on the front pages of major newspapers. If my guess is correct, you wanted to use your own fame to quickly establish Qin Nianwan’s popularity. Later, you admitted in front of the media that Shiniang Entertainment was established solely for Qin Nianwan. Plus, you haven’t dealt with the recent rumors about the two of you, so I think you’ve acquiesced to this method of stirring up scandal,"

"That was indeed the intent,"

"It’s been effective," Chen Jie affirmed, "Because of the recent news, everyone knows that Qin Nianwan and you are in a relationship. Of course, no one knows you’re already married and that all of this was for the sake of Qin Nianwan’s career. But Mrs. Fu knows, and it seems she’s quite dissatisfied with it."

Fu Shinian leaned back in his chair, as calm and composed as always:

"What did she say?"

"She said to keep Qin Nianwan away from you, to not show up in front of you all the time, otherwise she would expose your married status to the public and make Qin Nianwan out to be the universally denounced ’other woman.’"

Fu Shinian took out a lighter from his trouser pocket and began toying with it in his hand.

"I’m not sure if this misunderstanding has arisen because you and Mrs. Fu haven’t communicated well, but Qin Nianwan is now my artist. As her agent, it’s my duty to protect her from any negative influence. None of the artists under me has ever been embroiled in any scandals. I believe Mr. Fu sought me out because he valued this capability of mine. So, since the strategy of stirring up rumors was personally set by Mr. Fu, I hope Mr. Fu will definitely communicate with Mrs. Fu, to prevent making a big fuss,"

Fu Shinian was silent for a few seconds: "Definitely."

It was evident that there was more to be said between Qin Nianwan and Fu Shinian. Pleased, Chen Jie got up from the sofa and left the office first. Only then did Qin Nianwan take her seat beside Fu Shinian, looking at him uneasily:

"Shinian, you believe me, I never meant to trouble you with this. I told Sister Chen just to prepare her for this situation, but I didn’t expect she would tell you directly,"

Fu Shinian looked at her with a smile:

"Your agent did the right thing. Su Mu sent you that kind of message, and you should let me know right away. Or were you planning to wait until she really did release the news of my marriage before telling me? By that time, your dreams would have been crushed by her."

Qin Nianwan looked at him:

"Do you believe she did this?"

"Not many people know about my marriage, and apart from her, there doesn’t seem to be anyone else who would mind our relationship."

Qin Nianwan looked down: "But I always feel that Su Mu isn’t that kind of person."

Fu Shinian laughed but said nothing. Qin Nianwan couldn’t tell what he was really thinking, but seeing he was visibly upset, it was clear he believed that Su Mu had sent that message. Thus, there was no need for her to say anything else.

Shortly after Qin Nianwan left, Song Yi entered and reminded him:

"Mr. Fu, it’s time for the meeting."

Fu Shinian put away the lighter and rose from the sofa, walking towards the door. After a few steps, he seemed to remember something, turned back to look at Song Yi, and asked:

"Should I tell her that Mrs. Fu hasn’t had her phone for the past three days?"

Song Yi: "..."

----

After resting at home for a few more days, Su Mu was fully capable of walking on her own. Qiao Yu had also come to visit, confirming she was fine but admonishing her to not wear high heels for the time being and to walk slowly to avoid secondary injuries.

Fu Shinian had gotten her a new phone with a new number. Su Mu didn’t refuse; her old phone was lost, and besides, she didn’t have the savings to buy a new one herself.

At 3 p.m., Jiang Bei sent Wen Han’s mobile number to Su Mu’s new phone. She called his number, and after a long wait, it was picked up, but the tone was very different from the previous two times they had met, this time more robust and full of vigor:

"This is Wen Han."

"Hello, I’m Su Mu."

There was silence for a few seconds on the other end before the voice softened considerably: "Changed your number?"

"Yes, I called to tell you that my foot injury isn’t a problem anymore. I can go and accompany Shaoyuan now."

"Are you sure? There’s no need to rush with the tutoring job. Shaoyuan has been living alone for more than a day or two now. You should fully recover from your injury first,"

"I’ve already rested for a week; I’m really okay."

Wen Han responded, "Alright then, I’ll send you the address of Shaoyuan’s kindergarten later, and I’ll also notify his head teacher."

"Thank you, you’ve been a great help."

Not long after hanging up, Su Mu received Wen Han’s message. She looked up the location on the map and discovered it wasn’t too far from Bishui Yuntian. Nevertheless, she set off early, arriving at the kindergarten by 4 p.m., half an hour before Wen Shaoyuan would be dismissed from school.

She would likely be back home by around 10 p.m. Although Fu Shinian was aware that she was working as a tutor, he didn’t know that she would be starting today. Considering the recent harmonious relationship between them, Su Mu didn’t want to spoil this rare harmony over a trivial matter, and so she called Fu Shinian.

As Fu Shinian’s phone rang, he was listening to a department head reporting on work. Glancing at the caller ID, he raised an eyebrow slightly—he rarely received calls from her.

Gesturing for the report to pause, Fu Shinian picked up the phone and walked toward the floor-to-ceiling window: "What’s the matter?"

Having listened to Su Mu, the previously affable Fu Shinian’s expression turned cold in an instant. Song Yi, upon seeing this, signaled everyone to leave. As he was the last to exit the office, he overheard Fu Shinian let out a cold chuckle:

"Su Mu, have I been too good to you lately?"
