Chapter 498: Chapter 498: Numerous Holes Lead to One Oversight, Defense Is Difficult to Maintain

President Huang clinked his glass against the one in front of Su Mu:

"Don’t like this game?"

"I do, just not good at it, can’t keep up with their thinking," Su Mu responded indifferently, "President Huang, why don’t you join them?"

"I’m old, this is a young people’s game."

President Huang drained the glass of wine, then poured himself another. Seeing that Su Mu hadn’t touched her glass, he raised an eyebrow and smiled:

"Su Mu, are you not giving me face?"

"Isn’t it always like this? Aren’t you used to it yet?"

"Do you think just because the boss favors you, you can be the royal photographer forever? My word could also get you kicked out." After threatening Su Mu, President Huang switched to a smiling face within seconds: "Actually, a girl like you should be treasured and pampered, why put yourself through so much hardship? Just say the word, and you can have the life you want."

Su Mu picked up the glass in front of her and swirled it, but did not drink under President Huang’s watch. Her lips curled into a faint smile, her expression neither servile nor overbearing:

"President Huang, you can tell me to get lost, but don’t think that without you, I’d be out of options. If you’re well-informed, you should have heard that ’Vanity Fair’ magazine has been in touch with me. I’ve not agreed yet out of consideration for our long-term cooperation, but now I’m thinking it might be worthwhile to reconsider. What do you think?"

President Huang looked at Su Mu and squinted slightly, not saying a word as Su Mu continued:

"President Huang, you say you can give me the life I want, but do you really know me? Do you know what kind of life I desire? I’m no longer a child, even my Qiqi wouldn’t believe such talk. Are you overestimating yourself, or underestimating me?"

"Su Mu, I respect you."

"I respect you too, otherwise, this glass of wine..." Su Mu smiled: "would have been thrown in your face by now."

The atmosphere grew tense, but Su Mu remained calm, so Lin Ning was unclear about what exactly was agreed, but it seemed not too bad, as Su Mu was fully capable of handling the situation.

As time passed, President Huang finally dropped his serious demeanor:

"If that’s the case, I won’t bring this up again in the future, let’s just be pure business partners."

"That would be best," Su Mu said lightly.

"Given that, should we have a drink? To clear the air?" Seeing Su Mu’s refusal, President Huang was the first to speak: "Su Mu, you wouldn’t deny me this face, would you? I’ve made myself very clear, don’t you trust me?"

Su Mu looked at him but remained silent.

"Even if I’m a figure in the fashion circle, if I really wanted to do something to you, as someone influential, a few words from you could ruin my reputation. Since you’re not interested in an affair with me, I can’t force it. After all, matters of love should be consensual."

Having said this, Su Mu found it difficult to further reject saving his face, and they would still have to interact and collaborate in the future. She didn’t want to make an enemy, especially over just a drink. She smiled slightly:

"You’re being too serious, of course, I’ll drink this glass."

After these words, Su Mu was ready to drink the glass in her hand, but paused as it reached her lips, and instead poured the wine on the ground. As President Huang couldn’t help but ask, Su Mu took the initiative to explain:

"This wine has been sitting out so long it’s lost its flavor. Pouring a new one would be more sincere."

A flicker of embarrassment crossed President Huang’s face, quickly losing interest. After pouring another glass for Su Mu and clinking glasses unenthusiastically, he drank it down and left. Su Mu watched his retreating figure and couldn’t help but smile.

Seeing President Huang leave sullenly from Su Mu’s side, Lin Ning finally felt relieved, began aggressively playing games, continued drinking, and then resumed playing—it seemed the cycle would never tire them out. Su Mu quietly accompanied them until around one in the morning, then finally spoke:

"That’s enough, if you still want to drink, take the alcohol back to the hotel, let’s call it a day."

By now, everyone was slightly drunk, and further drinking might even make it difficult to return to the hotel. Everyone realized this and agreed to reconvene at the hotel to continue. They all began to leave, and Su Mu was the last to go, making sure they hadn’t left behind anything before leisurely making her exit.

Although Lin Ning was quite drunk, Su Mu’s safety was still a concern. Having staggered a long way with someone’s support, he still stumbled back to Su Mu and slurred:

"Sister Su, let me walk you back to the hotel."

Su Mu smiled lightly:

"If there’s danger later, will you protect me, or will I have to protect you?"

Lin Ning’s alcohol tolerance had always been poor, even with years of practice, he just wasn’t meant for drinking. Given the atmosphere, he didn’t want to refuse too much.

His expression slightly embarrassed, yet persistent:

"Don’t worry, Sister Su, even though I’m drunk, I’ll make sure you’re not in danger."

"Fine, go on back, Fu Shinian will pick me up."

"Really?" Lin Ning looked around: "I don’t see him."

"I asked him to wait further away, he’s famous, and I don’t want to be."

Hearing this, Lin Ning nodded: "Alright, Sister Su, please call me when you get to the hotel, just to let me know you’re safe."

"I will, now go on."

Lin Ning nodded, and with unsteady steps headed towards the crowd. Su Mu watched as they left together before she slowly moved on. In fact, she hadn’t asked Fu Shinian to pick her up; although they had been sharing a bed these past few days, their relationship hadn’t changed, and Su Mu was not one to initiate such requests.

After leaving the restaurant, Su Mu’s body began to feel slightly unwell, dizzy and lightheaded. At first, it was mild, but it worsened significantly, almost preventing her from walking. She had to lean against a tree to rest briefly. Initially, Su Mu thought it might be the effect of alcohol, but now, she was sure she must’ve consumed something contaminated.

Though she had been cautious during the dinner tonight, there was still a slight oversight, but she couldn’t pinpoint where she might have been negligent.

"Su Mu, you don’t seem to be well? Do you need help?"
