Chapter 465: Chapter 465: I’ve Long Forgotten About That Day

Su Mu arrived at the hospital just as Zhou Yaxian had not yet emerged from the emergency room, Wen Han sat on a bench in the hallway, his whole person shrouded in a layer of sorrow and regret.

Su Mu had not been given the full story over the phone, only that Zhou Yaxian had had an accident, and did not know the details. Seeing Wen Han’s state, Su Mu suspected the situation to be graver than she imagined. She walked over and sat next to him, thought for a moment, and still reached out to hold Wen Han’s slightly cold hand.

Wen Han noticed and froze for a moment before he came back to his senses and looked at Su Mu, forcing a smile,

"You came."

Su Mu looked at him and asked softly,

"What exactly happened? Isn’t Auntie’s health always been good?"

"Her health was fine, it’s just that her mental state has always been poor, but with a psychologist regularly counseling her, I hadn’t paid much attention to it. I just visited her every day, but I never thought she would suddenly attempt suicide."

"Suicide?" Su Mu was startled and looked toward the emergency room door, "You mean Auntie she..."

"I don’t know where she got sleeping pills from, but she swallowed an entire bottle. Fortunately, Shaoyuan has been worried about Grandma recently and checked on her from time to time. He found her quickly. If it weren’t for Shaoyuan, I might have lost my mother by now."

Su Mu wasn’t sure in what emotion Wen Han spoke these words, but they pained her heart. Having just lost her father not long ago and now her mother was about to leave in such a way, Su Mu understood his feelings, but could not claim to feel them as her own. Perhaps all she could do at this moment was to provide company.

"It’s my fault. You’ve mentioned my mother’s condition to me more than once, but I don’t know what happened—I usually pay close attention to their emotions, but this time, after such a major incident, I even felt lax. I just wanted to escape, as if by ignoring it, everything could return to how it once was."

"No one has a body of steel. I know you’ve been feeling terrible after Uncle passed away, but you have to be strong because you have a mother and a son to take care of. But everyone gets tired sometimes. I understand your desire to escape. If it had happened to me, I can’t say I would have done any better, I might even have hidden myself far away."

Wen Han looked at Su Mu, uncertain whether to believe her words.

Su Mu smiled faintly:

"It’s true, you can just look at my mother to know. After my father passed away, she thought about leaving me too. I pulled her back from the brink, but I was less fortunate. Since then, I haven’t spoken a word to her, she has never woken up, and for a long time, I only visited her occasionally. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t want to face it and didn’t know how. So gradually, I didn’t want to visit, and sometimes I even thought that saving her from the brink was the wrong decision."

Wen Han grasped Su Mu’s hand:

"You don’t need to expose your wounds to comfort me. I’m not as fragile as you think."

"I’m not comforting you, I just don’t want you to continue to wallow in self-blame. Auntie’s situation was never your fault."

Wen Han smiled faintly and did not say anything else.

After another hour had nearly passed, Zhou Yaxian was finally wheeled out of the emergency room. She had undergone gastric lavage, but her face was still very pale and devoid of color. Though she looked critical, she was not in life-threatening danger. The doctor said she would likely wake up by the next morning.

Wen Han offered his thanks and returned to the ward with Su Mu.

Once everything was stable, Wen Han seemed to rally a bit of spirit. He looked at Su Mu:

"My mother is out of danger, and you’ve had a busy day. Go and get some rest."

"I’ll stay with you."

"I don’t need it." Wen Han smiled: "I can hold up."

"Today’s work at the studio has wrapped up, and the next steps are to have people come from Jiangcheng City. I don’t have much else to do. Qiqi is with Fu Shinian and doesn’t need my care, I would just be worried about Auntie if I went back. Let me stay here, and I’ll sleep on the sofa if I get tired."

When Su Mu spoke up to this point, Wen Han didn’t insist anymore, softly hugged her, and kissed her forehead:

"Thank you."

It wasn’t until Su Mu completely relaxed that she realized she hadn’t eaten anything. Earlier, she was in such a tense state that she didn’t feel hungry, but now that her spirit had relaxed, she felt uncomfortable in her stomach. Realizing that Wen Han hadn’t eaten either, she went out to buy food.

When she got back, Wen Han was lying on the sofa with his eyes closed, resting. Su Mu walked over quietly and sat down in front of him. Hesitant whether she should wake him, Wen Han slowly spoke:

"Shrimp wonton soup."

Su Mu laughed:

"You weren’t sleeping?"

"Your food woke me."

He then opened his eyes, sat up, rubbed his temples wearily, and smiled at Su Mu as he opened the meal boxes in front of him: "I got busy and forgot you hadn’t eaten, my bad."

"That makes me sound petty and ignorant."

Wen Han laughed:

"I’m wrong again."

They stopped talking and ate a bowl of wontons face to face. As their stomachs began to feel comfortable, Su Mu wanted to throw the meal boxes in the trash but was stopped by Wen Han: "Let me."

Su Mu did not insist, letting him go out. When he returned, Su Mu was wiping Zhou Yaxian’s body. Wen Han wanted to say something but ultimately did not. Watching Su Mu smile faintly, he was truly thankful for everything Su Mu did for him.

When Wen Han came back into the ward after smoking two cigarettes in the hallway, Su Mu had finished her task. She was sitting on the sofa looking at her mobile phone. When she saw Wen Han come in, she smiled but did not speak. Wen Han settled next to her, and Su Mu put away her phone. Before the screen went dark, Wen Han caught a glimpse it was a solo game.

There were a few seconds of silence before Wen Han spoke up:

"I’ve owed you an apology for the past."

"Hmm?" Su Mu looked at Wen Han in surprise, "What for? What did you do to me?"

Wen Han didn’t look at Su Mu, but rather smiled awkwardly: "The day you came back from Jiangcheng City. I shouldn’t have spoken to you like that."

Su Mu paused, then spoke:

"I’ve forgotten about it."

"You haven’t. If you had forgotten, why would you have avoided contacting me for so long, and even specially choose a time I wasn’t home to visit Shaoyuan and my mother? You were deliberately avoiding me. I know it." Wen Han paused for a few seconds before continuing: "I’ve been wanting to find a good time to talk things out with you, but with work being so busy recently, I didn’t get in touch with you, and that must have made you feel bad."
