Chapter 464: Different Positions, Different Feelings
Chapter 464: Chapter 464: Different Positions, Different Feelings
The receptionist had just finished speaking when she left, and only Su Mu stood still, slightly dazed, until Qiqi beside her spoke up:
"Mu, have you forgotten your own birthday?"
Su Mu smiled, "Yeah, I somewhat don’t remember it anymore."
"I remember," Qiqi said as she went over to enter the code but, unfortunately, being too short, couldn’t reach the numbers. Su Mu laughed, walked over, picked her up, and Qiqi managed to input smoothly. The elevator doors slowly opened, and Su Mu, holding Qiqi’s hand, walked in, also blocking the occasional glances from the reception in the process.
The elevator went directly to Fu Shinian’s office. The moment the elevator doors opened, Su Mu saw the entire office of Fu Shinian and also noticed everyone in the reception area turning their gaze abruptly toward them. Su Mu started to feel that Fu Shinian had done this on purpose.
Fu Shinian followed everyone’s gaze and glanced at Su Mu, then shifted his gaze to Qiqi and paused the meeting with a slight smile, extending his hand to her:
"Come here."
Qiqi, not the least bit stage-frightened, wriggled out of Su Mu’s hand and ran over, climbing onto Fu Shinian’s leg, looking at the stack of documents in front of him, and even flipping through them, saying, "I don’t understand."
Fu Shinian laughed:
"You don’t need to understand these; having me earn the money for you to spend is enough."
Everyone present were department heads, and although Fu Shinian was usually so stern that people dare not approach, the current scene still piqued their curiosity so much that someone brave enough, without fearing to possibly upset Fu Shinian, asked aloud:
"Mr. Fu, this is..."
Surprisingly, Fu Shinian was not at all displeased, but rather seemed quite happy, thus his tone was light and cheerful as he replied:
"My daughter."
A simple three words silenced everyone. After they realized what was said, they rushed to congratulate Fu Shinian, and some brazenly commented that Mr. Fu had kept it utterly secretive; they didn’t even know when he had gotten married, let alone that he already had such a grown child.
During the conversation, everyone’s gaze settled on Su Mu, since if the child in Fu Shinian’s arms was his daughter, then the woman who brought her here and whom they had never seen before must be Mrs. Fu, right?
But Su Mu didn’t give them the chance to misinterpret, directly saying:
"I’ve dropped off the child; I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll be leaving now."
"Wait," Fu Shinian, holding Qiqi, stood up and stepped toward Su Mu, "Are you in a hurry?"
Su Mu looked at Fu Shinian without speaking, not quite understanding what he was hinting at but guessing that he wouldn’t say anything inappropriate with so many people present.
Fu Shinian glanced at his watch, then spoke:
"I have about 20 minutes left in the meeting. If you’re not busy, take Qiqi to the resting room for a bit. If you are busy, it’s also fine, I’ll take Qiqi with me to the meeting. I don’t mind, but I’m afraid Qiqi might find it boring."
Hearing this, Su Mu checked the time. She had an appointment with a merchant at 3 PM, and it was just a little past 2 PM now. From Fu Corporation to her studio was at most a half-hour journey, so there was plenty of time. She nodded:
"I’m not in a hurry."
Fu Shinian smiled, then, carrying Qiqi, walked towards the resting room. Su Mu followed behind them under the watchful eyes of the others.
The meeting seemed really urgent. After placing Qiqi on the floor mat, Fu Shinian glanced at Su Mu, said "soon" and went out. Su Mu watched as Qiqi skillfully picked up toys from the corner, realizing she had been here before. She sat down on the sofa nearby and asked:
"Do you come here often?"
Qiqi poured out the building blocks from the bag:
"Yeah, Fu Shinian brings me here."
Su Mu smiled, saying no more.
Fu Shinian was right; in less than 20 minutes, he re-entered the room. By then, Su Mu was almost dozing off on the sofa, but she perked up upon hearing the noise and stood up when she saw Fu Shinian appear, asking:
"Are you done?"
"Yeah," Fu Shinian looked at her, "Did you drive here yourself or rest a bit? If it’s too much, I can send Song Yi over to help you with the studio work."
"No need, there’s a lot more to do that I need to handle myself, otherwise, I wouldn’t have brought Qiqi over."
After saying this, Su Mu walked straight to Qiqi, still playing with the building blocks, and kissed her on the forehead:
"I need to go, listen to your dad."
Qiqi nodded, and Su Mu didn’t think there was anything inappropriate with her words, but it caused Fu Shinian who stood behind her to pause. By the time Su Mu turned around to leave, he hadn’t recovered yet. In fact, it’s no wonder Fu Shinian was taken aback, as this was the first time he had heard the words ’your dad’ coming from Su Mu’s lips.
Although it was his true identity, and he knew in his heart that he was indeed that figure to her, Su Mu had mentioned changing the callsign with Qiqi before, but at that time, it was from Qiqi’s perspective. Now, these simple three words took her own stance, acknowledging him as Qiqi’s father, and it couldn’t help but stir Fu Shinian.
But Su Mu didn’t pay attention to Fu Shinian’s distraction and said outright:
"I’m leaving."
As she passed by Fu Shinian, he grabbed her wrist, and before Su Mu could pull away, he spoke:
"It’s already mid-August, school is starting soon. Once your work is settled, I’ll take you and Qiqi to look at the kindergarten, in case there’s anything amiss, it’s better to prepare early."
Su Mu nodded:
"Okay."
Then she pulled her hand away and left the resting room.
After dealing with the studio’s matters, it was almost 6 PMchnitt, and after a bustling afternoon, she was starving, initially planning to grab something from the nearby fast food restaurant. However, just then, Wen Han called. Since the last time Su Mu returned from Jiangcheng City and they met, there hadn’t been any contact.
Seeing Wen Han’s name reminded Su Mu of the promise she made to Wen Shaoyuan before, and a week had passed yet she still hadn’t resolved the matter with Wen Han, making her feel somewhat guilty toward Wen Shaoyuan. Though she didn’t know how to face Wen Han, she still answered the phone.
After all, avoiding it wouldn’t solve anything.
But nobody expected that Wen Han’s call wasn’t about discussing matters; his voice was full of panic, the kind Su Mu had only heard when Wen Songyan had just passed away, causing her heart to sink:
"What happened?"
