Chapter 46: Want to hit me again?

Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Want to hit me again?

Qiao Yu was about to speak but then remained silent upon receiving Ji Nanfeng’s hint. As he walked towards the living room, he couldn’t help but lament his own benevolent doctor’s heart, thinking to himself how truly kind he was.

Qin Nianwan was stunned for a few seconds after Fu Shinian took action before she realized what had happened. She hurried over to help Su Shiyue up from the ground. Seeing her eyes reddened and tears swirling nonstop, she couldn’t help but urge:

"Shinian, you shouldn’t lay a hand on Yueyue no matter what, right? She’s a girl, you..."

"A girl?" Fu Shinian scoffed coldly, "Did she seem like a girl when she was driving into someone just now? It’s laughable that after all these years of painstakingly raising her, I’ve actually brought up a she-devil! Thinking of killing someone right under my nose, Su Shiyue, who gave you the audacity?!"

More than the pain on her face, Su Shiyue’s dignity and pride hurt even more. She knew that Fu Shinian had always been strict with her, but in front of others, he had always been considerate and never let her lose face. Yet, just now he actually, for the sake of that posturing woman upstairs, trampled on everything she treasured.

"Shinian, you’ve got it wrong, Shiyue didn’t intend to kill anyone, she just..."

"Just what? As she said, to teach Su Mu a lesson? And who is she to speak for the Fu family? At what point did it become her turn to call the shots?" Fu Shinian looked coldly at Su Shiyue, his gaze sharp as a knife, slicing mercilessly at Su Shiyue’s wounded dignity: "Su Shiyue, don’t think I’m unaware of what you’ve been up to outside. I can protect you but can also clip your wings! Has the status of the young lady of the Fu family given you so much of a sense of superiority that you dare to lay a finger on my woman?"

The last sentence made both Ji Nanfeng and Qiao Yu look at Fu Shinian together. If their memory wasn’t playing tricks on them, this should be the first time he declared ’Su Mu is my woman’ in front of others.

Qiao Yu whispered, "Is this an epiphany?"

Ji Nanfeng: "For some reason, I feel that Shinian was very imposing just now, what’s up with that?"

If Qiao Yu and Ji Nanfeng had witnessed the first for Fu Shinian, wasn’t Qin Nianwan the same? Since knowing him, this was the first time she had seen Fu Shinian lose his temper like this, angry with his own sister over another woman whom she had never taken seriously.

Did he really care about Su Mu, or was it just because Su Mu was his wife and his pride wouldn’t allow anyone to defy him in the slightest?

Qin Nianwan was at a loss, but if it were the former, then why did he bring her back to the old house for the festival? What were all those words he said to her outside just now? He did care about her, but it seemed she wasn’t the only one.

As things had progressed to this point, Su Shiyue didn’t seem to have much to fear. She broke free from Qin Nianwan’s embrace and looked coldly at Fu Shinian:

"For that cheap woman, this is already the second time you’ve hit me. In your eyes, I can’t even compare to the person who traded her grandmother’s life for marriage with you! Have you fallen in love with her? If it weren’t loving her, why would you repeatedly raise your hand against me?!"

Fu Shinian looked at her with indifference, as if observing a lunatic who had lost her senses.

"I may not be able to stop you from protecting her, but I want to see just how far you can go. The humiliation she gave me today, I will surely reclaim it twofold! You know I’m naturally rebellious; the more you forbid me from touching her, the more I want to!"

"What do you want to do?" Fu Shinian’s voice turned even colder.

"What do I want to do? I guess I want to see if you can actually kill me for her sake!"

After saying this, Su Shiyue turned and left. Qin Nianwan called out to her twice, but she didn’t look back, ultimately only being able to watch helplessly as Su Shiyue quickly got into her car and sped away.

"Shinian..."

"Nanfeng," Fu Shinian interrupted Qin Nianwan, "Take Nianwan back."

Ji Nanfeng: "...Alright."

——

On the way back, Qin Nianwan was quiet the whole time, wrapped in her thoughts, and Ji Nanfeng, though usually a chatterbox, found himself at leisure; after all, his and Qin Nianwan’s conversation topics were largely about Fu Shinian.

She thought she would remain silent throughout the drive, but halfway through, Qin Nianwan couldn’t help but speak up:

"Nanfeng, I feel Shinian is somewhat different now."

Ji Nanfeng casually rested an arm on the car window with a carefree posture, he glanced at her with a faint smile:

"Oh? How is he different? I didn’t notice."

"He never used to get angry before, especially with his family. He’s always been good-natured and never... never like he was today."

Thinking back to Fu Shinian’s demeanor from earlier, Qin Nianwan was still somewhat in disbelief, yet facts were in front of her, leaving no room for self-deception.

"No one is a saint. Given what Su Shiyue did today, can’t Shinian be allowed to have some temper?" Ji Nanfeng said with a chuckle: "Or is it that, you actually know that Shinian has a temper, you just can’t accept that he was angry over Su Mu?"

Qin Nianwan looked at Ji Nanfeng and discovered that he was just as venomous in his gaze as he had been for years past, as if nothing could be hidden from his view.

With her inner thoughts laid bare by Ji Nanfeng, Qin Nianwan made no attempt to conceal them and straightforwardly said,

"How have Shinian and Su Mu been these past two years?"

Ji Nanfeng’s smile deepened at the corners of his mouth:

"So you want to probe into Shinian and Su Mu’s love life through me? Well, you’ve got the wrong person. Even though Shinian and I have a bond of growing up together, there’s a limit to how much a brother should interfere in another brother’s family affairs. No man would tolerate that. Furthermore, even if I knew every single detail, do you think I would tell you?"

Qin Nianwan looked at Ji Nanfeng and remained silent.

"It’s not like there’s much between us to begin with, but even if there were, in my eyes, a brother will always be more important than a woman. Whatever Shinian hasn’t told you, you’ll absolutely never hear from me. If you want to know something, go ask Shinian. Trying to pry information from me is just a waste of time."

With words so final and devoid of any sentiment, Qin Nianwan found it awkward to say more. She offered a strained smile and then fell silent once again.

——

After the old lady had descended the stairs, Su Mu was left alone in the room. She sat quietly on the sofa for a while, feeling the need to go to the restroom. She had planned to ask Auntie Wang for help, but her phone was in her bag, and she didn’t know where they had tossed it when they went upstairs. Now she could only rely on herself.

She got up from the sofa cautiously, enduring the pain and took a few steps. However, the more she walked, the more painful it became. By the third step, her injured foot could not touch the ground. Any slightest contact caused penetrating pain, so she had no choice but to hop forward like a one-legged rabbit.

When the bedroom door was pushed open, Su Mu was startled and nearly lost balance and fell. Fu Shinian also hadn’t expected to be greeted by such a terrifying scene upon entering. As he instinctively moved forward to help, she had already steadied herself, and Fu Shinian let out a sigh of relief.

It was clear what she was struggling towards, and although she stood there, ignoring his presence, not uttering a word to seek help, Fu Shinian couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh inwardly. She was stubborn to an unlikable degree.

Su Mu acted as if Fu Shinian wasn’t in the room, continuing to move towards the bathroom in her own way. Fu Shinian just watched, not intending to step forward. He wanted to see just how stubborn she could be.

The Su Mu of the past, although unlikable, knew when to show weakness and give in, but lately, she had developed a relentless spirit time and again.

Being seen in an embarrassing state by someone else is truly an awful feeling, but as soon as Su Mu remembered the news she had seen that morning, remembered that he’d brought Qin Nianwan back for the festival, she didn’t want to speak to Fu Shinian. With that anger lodged in her chest, the embarrassment didn’t seem to matter anymore. Let him watch; after all, compared to the things he had done, she was clear and upright—nothing to be afraid of.

However, she was still somewhat distracted. The moment she lost balance and fell, Su Mu unexpectedly tumbled into a somewhat warm embrace. He didn’t give Su Mu a chance to get up from his arms; instead, he simply bent down and scooped her up, striding towards the bathroom.

Fu Shinian put Su Mu down in front of the toilet. She instinctively took a step back but nearly fell again. Fu Shinian quickly caught her, but his expression had turned grim:

"What is it? Before you couldn’t bear to share a bed, and now even touching is not okay?"

Su Mu: "Get out, I need to use the restroom."

"Do your business."

Su Mu finally looked up, the first time she had opened her eyes to see him since he had returned to the old house today:

"Fu Shinian, are you finding this amusing?"

"What’s wrong with me?" Fu Shinian looked at her. "Staying here worrying you might lose your balance and fall, am I wrong?"

Su Mu could not believe Fu Shinian could be so shameless. She let out a light laugh: "I don’t need to go anymore. Can you leave now?"

Fu Shinian didn’t respond, just quietly observed her for a few seconds, and then began to undo the button on her jeans. Su Mu was startled, struggling to resist, but was suddenly pulled forcefully against him with one arm wrapped around her waist, leaving no room for refusal. His other hand continued its work at her waist, already having unzipped her jeans.

"Fu Shinian!"

As Su Mu’s warning voice sounded, Fu Shinian let her go but had already pulled her pants down below her buttocks. Just as Su Mu was about to raise her hand to slap him, he quickly seized her wrist, his eyes clearly filled with anger:

"Starting another fight? Su Mu, have you become addicted to hitting me lately?"

"If you had the slightest respect for me, it wouldn’t have come to this!"

"Respect?" Fu Shinian chuckled lightly: "When you traded marriage for status and schemed your way into my bed, I wasn’t aware you even knew the meaning of self-respect."
