Chapter 445: Chapter 445: Benevolent Lie, She Has a Premonition

Su Mu nodded, and as she turned around, she saw Qiqi standing there dumbfounded. Perhaps she had never seen Zhou Yaxian like this, and she inevitably seemed a little at a loss. Su Mu gave a slight smile,

"Go find Shaoyuan to play. I’ll call you when I’m about to leave."

Qiqi nodded but still looked worried as she reluctantly went upstairs, glancing back every few steps.

Su Mu had stayed behind to talk to Zhou Yaxian, but it seemed Zhou Yaxian’s mind was not really on the conversation. Although Zhou Yaxian had put down the photo and regained some composure, Su Mu could tell she was forcing herself to be strong, and she spoke up to suggest,

"Auntie, why don’t you go upstairs and rest for a bit? We can have a good chat after Wen Han comes back."

Zhou Yaxian nodded, stood up, and went upstairs. Su Mu wanted to accompany her but was stopped.

"I’m fine. You sit."

Not long after Zhou Yaxian went upstairs, Wen Han came back. Seeing Su Mu there didn’t seem to surprise him; he threw his keys on the cabinet by the entryway, bent down to change his shoes, and came over,

"When did you get here?"

Su Mu didn’t look too well as she looked at Wen Han, "Not long ago."

"What’s wrong?" Wen Han sat next to Su Mu, taking her hand in his, "Are you not feeling well?"

Su Mu shook her head,

"Before you got back, Auntie was in the living room the whole time. I just feel like she’s not in a good state of mind."

Wen Han did not seem too concerned as he responded casually,

"You have to give her some time to adjust. This house is filled with memories of her and my dad, and she refuses to move. Now living here alone, with her partner not coming back again, it’s normal that she is a bit out of sorts."

Wen Han’s argument did seem sensible, but Su Mu was still worried,

"Regardless, we should pay more attention. Your mother is at her most vulnerable right now."

"I know." Wen Han looked at Su Mu, "Thank you."

Su Mu felt a bit embarrassed,

"What are you thanking me for? I haven’t done anything."

"Just being by my side is a tremendous help. Without you, I really wouldn’t know how to get through this tough time."

Su Mu gave a shallow smile and said no more. After a few seconds of silence, Wen Han slowly spoke,

"I fell asleep soon after you left last night, so I didn’t wait for your call. When did you get home?"

Su Mu was taken aback for a moment, then somewhat unnaturally,

"I, I sent you a WeChat message, didn’t I? I had just gotten home at that time."

"With so much going on lately, my memory isn’t that great. I’ve forgotten a bit."

Su Mu looked at Wen Han and suddenly felt like he might actually be lying, but this feeling had no basis to the point where she thought she was being overly sensitive.

Su Mu had made an appointment to see a house that afternoon, so she didn’t stay long. Qiqi wanted to stay with Wen Shaoyuan and didn’t leave; Su Mu thought that was good, so as not to let Wen Shaoyuan become gloomy due to the family changes. Qiqi was someone he liked, and with her company, Su Mu felt reassured.

Wen Han knew Su Mu was going to see a house and originally wanted to go with her. However, Su Mu was worried about Zhou Yaxian’s condition and hoped that he would stay with her. Wen Han did not insist but spoke softly as he saw her off,

"In fact, I still have a few properties under my name. You don’t have to go through all this trouble; you could just stay at one of my places temporarily."

Su Mu smiled lightly and declined Wen Han’s offer,

"I know you mean well, but everyone wants their own little space. That way, even if we argue in the future, I’d have a place to go, right?"

"We will not argue." Wen Han looked at Su Mu, his tone serious, "I won’t fight with you. You don’t need to worry about that. Whatever the reason, it’s my fault, and I will admit it."

Su Mu was amused by Wen Han’s earnestness,

"You are a soldier; you should have boundaries."

"I’m a soldier, but I’m also your boyfriend. In front of you, I don’t need to have boundaries."

If someone else had said this, Su Mu wouldn’t have believed it, but coming from Wen Han, it somehow seemed convincing, and she believed he was sincere. However, such a relationship was rare and precious, and no one could guarantee it would last a lifetime.

As Su Mu waited for the real estate agent, she remembered what Ji Qingluan had told her. She checked Weibo on her phone and indeed, her followers had jumped from tens of thousands to several hundred thousand overnight. This sudden attention surprised and even overwhelmed her; she wasn’t used to having so many people follow her. Of course, it would be better if they only cared about her work.

But it was of little consequence. Su Mu rarely managed her Weibo account, so it would be hard for anyone to track down the details of her life there. Her popularity had risen, but it didn’t affect Su Mu’s life; she kept on doing things she liked and needed to do, as usual.

The house viewing went quite smoothly today. Not only did she find a suitable place for her studio, but she also found a house she really liked—a small apartment near the city center, about 60 square meters, fully furnished. Although it was a bit more expensive than she had anticipated, it checked all her boxes, so it was acceptable. However, just as Su Mu was about to finalize the paperwork, the real estate agent received a call from the owner, who changed their mind:

"Sorry, Miss Su, the owner has had second thoughts about selling, but he doesn’t live there either, so it’s turned from a sale to a rental. Would you consider renting for now, and maybe you can buy it later if the opportunity arises?"

Su Mu never expected such a thing to happen, and her first thought was of Fu Shinian. She wondered if he was behind this, but then she dismissed the idea, considering it unlikely that he would bother with such roundabout methods.

Despite still wanting to buy it—to have a place of her own—Su Mu couldn’t do much about the owner’s change of heart. She went to look at other houses, but perhaps because the first one had set the bar, none of the others seemed as appealing.

After some thought, she decided to rent it, reasoning that maybe the owner would change their mind again. This way, she’d have an advantage. Having made her decision, Su Mu signed the lease.

With the house rented and being fully furnished, it would just need a bit of organizing before moving in. Su Mu hired a cleaner and went straight to her apartment in Jiang Bei to pack her things. She had lived there on her visits to Shen City for the past two years. There wasn’t much to pack, but it wasn’t a little either. She packed until dark, then glanced at the clock and called Jiang Bei to ask her to have dinner together. Jiang Bei hesitated briefly before accepting the invitation.
