Chapter 428: Chapter 428: Clear Grievances, Blood for Blood

After Song Yi and the bodyguard had set up the camera, Fu Shinian asked them to find a place to rest. Song Yi nodded and left the living room, and the bodyguard disappeared as well, but Xu Yansu knew they hadn’t left—they were just hiding out of sight, ready to appear immediately if Fu Shinian made a sound.

In the living room, only two people remained, along with two operating cameras. Xu Yansu felt even more uncomfortable than if someone had been watching her, but she had no choice but to accept her situation. Her mood soured and for a long time, she didn’t speak again.

Fu Shinian seemed to have no desire to engage with her either, hoping the night would pass quickly without a word exchanged. So, after Song Yi had left, he got up and walked to the French window, flipped a switch, and twinkling fairy lights came on. He looked at them and smiled faintly, then took out his phone and dialed a number.

He couldn’t get through, though; that person held grudges well. Even though he had "married" for her, she still refused to unblock him. Fortunately, he had a "spy" by her side. As long as Qiqi was there, Fu Shinian never worried about being unable to contact her.

He dialed with a different number, and a few seconds later, he heard Qiqi’s childish voice:

"Fu Shinian, you’re really useless, still unable to get unblocked up to now."

Being despised by his own daughter didn’t embarrass Fu Shinian but rather made him laugh happily:

"Yes, I admittedly have been dragging my feet, so I’ll need Qiqi’s help more in the future."

"Hmph, I knew your call wasn’t just because you missed me." Qiqi snorted unhappily, yet she didn’t make it difficult for him: "Wait a moment. I’ll give the phone to Su Mu, she’s showering."

Fu Shinian stopped Qiqi:

"Qiqi, I want a video call."

Even though Qiqi was just a three-year-old child, she understood enough about modesty between men and women to stop in her tracks, and snorted:

"Fu Shinian, you’re shameless. Qiqi doesn’t want to make Su Mu unhappy because of you."

Fu Shinian simply smiled gently:

"I won’t make it difficult for you."

"So should I still give the phone to Su Mu?"

Fu Shinian thought for a moment and asked, "Did Su Mu take her phone into the bathroom?"

"No, she always leaves her phone in the bedroom."

"Good, then go to Su Mu’s bedroom, add me on WeChat." Fu Shinian smiled faintly. "You know my WeChat ID."

Fu Shinian had thought Qiqi would refuse— he even had his reasons ready to persuade her. However, the child agreed without hesitation. Soon his phone notified him that a contact request had been added, and he smiled faintly and accepted.

Considering Su Mu was bathing, Fu Shinian didn’t immediately make a video call. Instead, he sat down in the wicker chair by the French window, staring at the fairy lights in a daze. After a while, he took out his phone and snapped a photo of the lights, sending it to Su Mu.

Xu Yansu had been watching Fu Shinian’s actions in the living room, overhearing his conversation with Qiqi. She felt a surge of jealousy. She wished she could swap places with Su Mu, to be cared about by him like that. But in reality, it seemed he couldn’t wait for her to disappear from his sight.

Holding her wine glass, Xu Yansu walked over and seated herself in another wicker chair, following Fu Shinian’s gaze to the fairy lights and softly began:

"These fairy lights have been hanging here for three years. Once when I felt they didn’t match the decor and wanted to take them down, you became very angry. I didn’t understand why then, but now I do—it’s because Su Mu likes them, right?"

Fu Shinian didn’t respond, as if he hadn’t heard her at all. Xu Yansu didn’t mind and simply sipped her wine, laughing self-deprecatingly, and raised her eyes to Fu Shinian:

"If I had made my position clear when I first came back, willing to help you from the shadows, would you have treated me differently?"

"I don’t answer hypothetical questions."

Xu Yansu looked at him:

"I’m not talking about being lovers. I mean as friends—could we have interacted normally, instead of how it is now, where you can’t even bear to look at me?"

Fu Shinian chuckled softly:

"Xu Yansu, you are a smart person. Why do you insist on being foolish about this? But since you want to know, I’ll tell you outright—even if you had chosen to help me from the shadows back then, I still wouldn’t have trusted you. After all, that poison was your doing with Shi Lihua, wasn’t it? Threatening me with my grandmother’s life—do you think I could ever trust you after that? Moreover, from the moment you put that virus into the old lady’s body, our opposition was secured. Even if you regretted it later, I couldn’t just forget about it."

"I’m a petty person. I remember well those who are good to me and surely repay them. For those who wrong me, I might decide whether to cause them trouble based on my mood, but once it touches my family, using the people I care about most as bargaining chips, then I won’t show any mercy. Debts of blood must be paid in blood."

Fu Shinian rarely conversed this long with Xu Yansu, and although the words weren’t what she wanted to hear, she listened earnestly and in the end, smiled sadly:

"You won’t even lie to me?"

"Deceiving someone also requires effort. I’ve already deceived you and Shi Lihua for three years. Don’t you think that’s enough?"

"If I had known I would fall for you, I’d never have joined Shi Lihua in her scheme. If I had known I could never have a place in your heart no matter what, I’d rather have never come back."

Her words sounded truly poignant and grievous, but they elicited no emotion from Fu Shinian. He just felt time was moving too slowly.

While he was feeling agitated, his phone chimed with a WeChat notification. He picked up his phone and saw Su Mu’s reply, smiling faintly as he swiped the screen:

"Don’t have Qiqi do such irrelevant things anymore."

Fu Shinian didn’t reply but directly made a video call. It rang for a long time and the page even showed the message ’The other party’s phone may not be with them,’ but Su Mu still didn’t answer. Just as Fu Shinian was about to hang up, the call connected, though it didn’t show Su Mu’s image—he saw a ceiling and chuckled lightly:

"Is the reason you won’t show yourself because you just showered?"

Su Mu: "...Are you busy? If not, I’m hanging up."

"Wait," Fu Shinian stopped her: "I’m feeling really suffocated. Keep me company for a while."
