Chapter 427: Chapter 427: Just in Case, Prevention Before It Happens
Su Mu put everything in order and placed it to one side before walking up to Jiang Bei:
"But you have to understand, this isn’t your fault. That woman has been scheming from the start. Her goal was never the child, but to use the child to get something else."
Jiang Bei smiled slightly,
"I understand what you’re saying. She’s clearly not a good person, but the child is still innocent. I haven’t figured out exactly what to do yet. Ji Nanfeng said I don’t have to worry about it, that he will take care of things and won’t make it difficult for me. But no matter what, I can’t escape responsibility, especially now that the Ji Family knows about the child. It’s not like I can do whatever I want. Don’t worry, I won’t wrong myself no matter what."
"But your marriage itself is a compromise."
Jiang Bei took the meal box that Su Mu had prepared and smiled faintly:
"That’s why from the start one should not imagine the future. The more you hope for, the more disappointed you’ll be. I’m the best example of that."
After Jiang Bei left, Su Mu and the two kids also had their meal. At the dinner table, Wen Shaoyuan occasionally glanced at Su Mu, as if trying to probe something. Su Mu noticed this several times and couldn’t help asking:
"Shaoyuan, is there something you want to say to me?"
Wen Shaoyuan put down his chopsticks and looked at Su Mu,
"Aunt Su, I want to go home."
Hearing this, Qiqi also put down her utensils and looked at Wen Shaoyuan with an unwilling expression, "Brother Shaoyuan, isn’t it nice to stay here with me? Why do you want to go home? If you go back, I’ll go with you."
Wen Shaoyuan smiled but did not respond to Qiqi. He just stared at Su Mu, unblinking. Su Mu suddenly had a premonition that he might have guessed something and smiled faintly,
"Shaoyuan, I’m not your enemy. You don’t have to beat around the bush with me."
"If I speak directly, will you also tell me honestly?"
"I know I can’t hide it from you." Su Mu sighed softly. "The Wen Family has had some trouble, but it’s mostly under control now. Your father and grandmother can’t be concerned with you for the time being. If you trust me, just stay here with me, and when they think the time is right, they naturally will let you go back."
Wen Shaoyuan was silent for a few seconds,
"Is it grandfather who had an accident?"
Su Mu knew Wen Shaoyuan was a smart kid, even if he was only 8 or 9 years old. She didn’t know how he guessed it, but undeniably, he had guessed correctly.
Wen Shaoyuan’s silence was an acknowledgment in Su Mu’s eyes. He bowed his head with a brief sense of sadness and after a moment looked at Su Mu for confirmation,
"Is grandfather okay now?"
"He hasn’t woken up yet, but the surgery was very successful. There shouldn’t be any more danger to his life."
Wen Shaoyuan nodded and said nothing more. After a few seconds, he picked up his chopsticks again and resumed eating. Su Mu watched him, suddenly feeling very sorry for him. He was too sensible, sensible enough to pretend not to know even when he did because it was something his grandmother and father currently did not want him to know.
"Don’t you want to visit the hospital to see?"
"I do," Wen Shaoyuan responded indifferently, "but going wouldn’t help. It would only distract grandmother with worry. Rather than that, I’d rather pretend not to know anything, so grandmother can look after grandfather properly. I believe that if grandfather’s condition improves, they’ll tell me, and if grandfather’s condition starts to worsen, they’ll also let me know."
Su Mu smiled and said no more.

By the time Fu Shinian returned to the old house, it was already eight o’clock. Xu Yansu was sitting in the living room watching TV. When she heard the door, she stood up from the sofa and looked at Fu Shinian at the doorway, her smile faint as if welcoming her husband home. She said,
"Back already?"
Fu Shinian looked at her, and unlike in the afternoon, she was wearing a red sleeveless dress, which added a festive touch to this already unorthodox marriage. Fu Shinian found it both humorous and ironic—a marriage that even she didn’t believe in, why did she bother deceiving herself?
He smiled and took a seat on the living room sofa,
"I’m here, but I don’t really have anything to say to you. If you have something to say, say it soon and then go get some rest. We’ll be doing what needs to be done early tomorrow."
Xu Yansu glanced at Fu Shinian, then her gaze fell on Song Yi and two bodyguards at the door, and she asked,
"Are they staying tonight too?"
"Yes," Fu Shinian said without evasion. "You only asked me to keep you company for the night; you didn’t say I couldn’t bring people over."
"The house inside and out is filled with your people, isn’t that enough?"
"Against you, it’s naturally not enough. What if you try to harm me?" Fu Shinian pointed at the two bodyguards behind Song Yi. "They rested well during the day and are guaranteed to be alert all night, ensuring my safety. I’m really worried you might have other intentions with me."
Xu Yansu laughed lightly and sat down opposite Fu Shinian:
"You really do trust me as little as ever."
"It’s because you’re not worth my trust at all."
Xu Yansu was dissatisfied, but after all, she had fought for this situation herself; she couldn’t expect too much.
Perhaps after tonight, such an opportunity would never come again. Only by threatening him with Su Mu’s life would he truly look at her and listen to what she had to say. She never wanted to be so lowly, nor had she ever thought of falling for anyone, but ever since she met Fu Shinian, everything had changed.
Xu Yansu shifted her gaze away from Fu Shinian directly to the liquor cabinet outside the kitchen. She took a bottle of red wine and two tall glasses to the table between them, poured two glasses, and Fu Shinian watched her movements. Even though he didn’t drink, he didn’t stop her.
After Xu Yansu was finished, she took the lead in picking up one of the glasses and swirled it gently, looking at Fu Shinian:
"Don’t you want a drink? The night is long."
Fu Shinian didn’t even glance at her but gave Song Yi a signal. Soon after, the two bodyguards started working. Xu Yansu watched in confusion until she saw them setting up a video camera in the living room, aimed in their direction. She couldn’t hold back anymore and said,
"What are you doing?"
Fu Shinian smiled faintly,
"I’m staying here with you for the night, and Su Mu would be unhappy about that. Even if I explained it away, she probably wouldn’t believe nothing happened between us. So, recording everything tonight is the most beneficial evidence. I think it’s a good idea, don’t you?"
Xu Yansu was so frustrated by him that she was speechless, but that didn’t stop anything.
