Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Spur of the Moment, Long-Preconceived

Under Qiqi’s insistence, Su Mu still prepared two breakfasts, but she wouldn’t go deliver it to Fu Shinian herself. Instead, she had Qiqi relay it, and Qiqi was eager to take on the task. Clutching the meal box, she scampered out the door. Su Mu watched her disappear, shaking her head helplessly.

Qiqi didn’t linger long at Fu Shinian’s place, seemingly just dropping off the lunch and returning. She dutifully climbed up onto the dining table, looking seriously across at Su Mu:

"Fu Shinian asked me to thank you, the sincere kind of thanks."

Su Mu looking at Qiqi:

"Did you not tell him it was your strong request?"

Qiqi blinked:

"I forgot, I just said it was you who sent me."

Su Mu chuckled lightly, not believing Qiqi’s words, as she thought it was very likely intentional, intending to let Fu Shinian misunderstand.

Honestly, she did not quite understand what was going on in Qiqi’s mind now. Previously, Qiqi seemed to agree and support her being together with Wen Han, even occasionally asking her when they would get married so she could wear a beautiful little wedding dress. But after she was actually with Wen Han, Qiqi never brought up the topic of marriage again.

It seemed like she had completely forgotten about it, or perhaps, she had other thoughts.

Su Mu didn’t ask.

After breakfast, Su Mu prepared to head to her studio as usual. The work at the photography studio had only been half done the previous day, and she had a busy day ahead. But as she asked Qiqi to get ready to leave, Qiqi hesitated, remaining seated, which made Su Mu glance at her more:

"Qiqi, did you not hear what I said?"

At these words, Qiqi climbed off the stool and came over to Su Mu, looking up at her with a palm-sized face:

"Mu, can I not go to the studio today?"

As soon as Qiqi finished speaking, Su Mu knew what she was thinking. After a moment of silence, she spoke, "Fu Shinian might be busy too."

"It won’t be, he told me just now, if Mu agrees, he wants to take me to the amusement park and the zoo today." Qiqi looked at Su Mu with anticipation, "I really want to go, but it needs your approval, will you agree?"

It seemed it was not a spur-of-the-moment decision, but a long-held plan.

Thinking about how she couldn’t take care of Qiqi in the studio, and considering the last incident when she wandered off, Su Mu couldn’t force her to stay with her, and she smiled:

"Okay."

Before heading to the studio, Su Mu dropped Qiqi off at Fu Shinian’s house. He came to open the door, and seeing Su Mu fully prepared, he smiled slightly:

"Heading out?"

"Yeah, Qiqi said you were taking her out today. It’s boring for her to be with me at work, and since you’re available, she can join you. But if you have to leave urgently, remember to call me. I’ll come pick her up."

Fu Shinian looked at her:

"Don’t worry, I don’t have much going on these next two days. I’ll be with Qiqi all day today."

Su Mu said nothing more, glancing back at Qiqi:

"Behave yourself, no mischief."

Qiqi smiled:

"Mu, don’t worry, even if I cause trouble, Fu Shinian wouldn’t dare do anything to me. He’s too busy trying to please me."

At this, Fu Shinian couldn’t help but burst into laughter, playfully twisting her ear with a gentleness that contradicted the gesture. Qiqi, fully disregarding his face, pretended it was very painful, even clutching Su Mu’s legs:

"Mu, Fu Shinian is bullying me, he hit me, I’ve changed my mind, I don’t want to play with him anymore, who knows what he might do to me when you aren’t here, maybe when you return, Qiqi will be gone, I want to go to the studio with you."

Fu Shinian: "..."

Su Mu: "..."

Although Fu Shinian had not spent much time with Qiqi and wasn’t familiar with her tactics, Su Mu knew them well and just chuckled softly, scraping her finger down Qiqi’s nose:

"Is that so? But it looks like you have no intention of leaving with me. If Fu Shinian were to hit or scold you, I think there’s nothing wrong with that. You’ve been lying quite frequently lately, perhaps it’s time you learned a lesson."

Hearing this, Qiqi let go of Su Mu’s leg, huffing:

"Humph, Mu, you don’t love me anymore."

Fu Shinian, slow as he sometimes was, knew Qiqi was just pretending and was only too happy to play along, kneeling down to plead:

"My little ancestor, my little princess, isn’t my apology enough? It was wrong of me to twist your ear, how about you twist mine back?"

He then offered his own ear to her, and Qiqi was about to take him up on his offer when Su Mu slapped her hand away. She then spoke no more to Qiqi but looked at Fu Shinian, softly saying:

"I’m letting Qiqi stay with you not for you to indulge and spoil her. If you just cater to her every whim, I’m not confident in leaving her in your care."

"Worried I’ll spoil her?" Fu Shinian stood up and smiled at Su Mu: "Don’t worry, Qiqi is my daughter, whether her character is good or bad, she’s my little princess, no one dares to speak a word against her, and even if she makes mistakes in the future, I’ll be there to cover for her."

With matters of upbringing at hand, Su Mu didn’t have time to discuss much with Fu Shinian. She shook her head slightly, noticed the time was already running late, and chose not to say more. Finally, she gave a few last instructions and turned to leave, but just as she was about to step into the elevator, she suddenly stopped and turned to look at Fu Shinian, who was now holding Qiqi:

"You..."

Fu Shinian had been about to enter the house but stopped, giving Su Mu a slight smile as he saw her hesitant appearance:

"Don’t worry, the injury on my back is fine, no need to be concerned."

Su Mu was utterly stunned that he had seen through her so easily, feeling awkward, and before she could even deny it, she saw Fu Shinian enter the house with Qiqi. Su Mu watched the door close, filled with regret. She must have been out of her mind to have become worried about Fu Shinian’s back injury.

Qiqi had been to many places with Su Mu, essentially touring the world, but still, visits to city zoos and amusement parks were rare. Today, finally having someone who wanted to dote on her and please her, Qiqi was determined to make the most of it, which almost drove the usually wild Fu Shinian beyond his ability to cope.

Although Fu Shinian was an adult, he had never been to an amusement park. Now accompanying his daughter, he figured any way was good, but he still felt his energy wasn’t what it used to be. Just seeing Qiqi’s smiling face made it all worth it.

This kind of time was something he hadn’t dared to imagine in the past three years, now wishing he could stop time forever.
