Chapter 385: Chapter 385: As Long as I Want, There Is Nothing I Can’t Do

Fu Shinian was well aware that Jiang Bei played a significant role in Su Mu and Wen Han getting together. Even if she wasn’t the final key factor, he believed that over these past three years, Jiang Bei must have said plenty of good things about Wen Han to Su Mu. In the past, Fu Shinian might have pretended not to hear, but after listening to Su Mu’s unwavering words about Wen Han, and upon hearing the so-called marriage news from Jiang Bei, he found the situation somewhat hard to swallow. Hence, he chuckled and said,

"Jiang Bei, instead of worrying about others’ affairs, why don’t you take care of your own issues? I think they are much more troublesome than mine, don’t you think?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Bei glared at Fu Shinian,

"Mr. Fu, I don’t recall ever mentioning your name, did I? What makes you so presumptuous to think that the marriage matters of Su Mu and Wen Han are related to you? Have you contracted amnesia and forgotten that you were divorced from Su Mu three years ago?"

"Of course I remember, but I remember even more clearly what I said to Su Mu a few minutes ago."

Having said that, Fu Shinian ignored Jiang Bei and walked straight to the hospital bed, planting a light kiss on Qiqi’s forehead:

"Daddy is leaving, I’ll come see you again tomorrow."

Previously, Fu Shinian, considering Su Mu’s feelings, had never openly established his relationship with Qiqi, but after his conversation with Su Mu, he suddenly stopped worrying. Whether it was a gradual process or using all means necessary, he was determined that Su Mu and Qiqi would be his.

The old lady noticed the change in Fu Shinian and looked at him disapprovingly, even casting a careful glance at Su Mu and observing her somewhat restrained emotions before speaking,

"Who gave you the audacity? Just because you claim to be Qiqi’s father doesn’t make it so. The child and Susu haven’t even nodded their heads in agreement yet. The world doesn’t work that easily; you better come back home with me."

Fu Shinian smiled slightly,

"Alright, I’ll take you home now."

Fu Shinian’s actions made the old lady feel certain that Su Mu must be upset, but still, she politely escorted her out, which made the old lady feel incredibly heartbroken while also sighing deeply at the realization that such a wonderful granddaughter-in-law had such a shallow bond with their family.

During the ride back, the old lady kept sighing, and Fu Shinian, sitting beside her, couldn’t help but chuckle,

"You’ve been quite melancholic since leaving the hospital. What’s on your mind?"

"And you have the nerve to laugh? Didn’t you hear what Jiang Bei said? Susu is going to marry Wen Han."

Upon hearing this, Fu Shinian didn’t show any particular reaction; his smile remained while he opted not to respond to the old lady’s words.

"Susu told me that she and Wen Han haven’t been together for long, so why are they in such a hurry to get married?" The old lady mused to herself, "But they’re both mature adults, and each has children. The Wen Family knows how good Susu is; they must be eager to marry her into the family."

The more the old lady talked, the more upset she became, and eventually, she couldn’t resist giving Fu Shinian a smack, which he took with a smile:

"Granny, weren’t you acting like you didn’t care just a moment ago? Why are you hitting me now?"

"It’s only a light tap. How could you have lost such a great daughter-in-law as Susu? You truly are unlucky."

"Don’t worry."

The old lady looked at him dissatisfied, "What should I be assured about? Are you saying you can still steal Susu back?"

"If I set my mind to it, there’s nothing I can’t do."

After this statement, the old lady was stunned for a few seconds. Upon the realization, she immediately rejected Fu Shinian’s idea:

"Stop making trouble. You’ve already hurt Susu so much, and now you still think of using schemes to bring her back into your life? Who do you think you are? The Almighty? Even the Almighty can’t escape the need for reason in this world. When I talked to Susu today about Wen Han, I could feel that her decision to be with Wen Han was well-considered, not impulsive."

"I know."

"If you know, then why are you still doing this?"

"You’ve also realized that Susu didn’t agree to Wen Han because she likes him, right?"

The old lady opened her mouth but didn’t speak, and Fu Shinian smiled slightly,

"I can’t deny that they seem very suitable together, and Wen Han indeed cherishes Su Mu a lot. But Su Mu doesn’t like Wen Han; her feelings toward him are more about gratitude and repayment, or maybe even a tentative attitude. If Su Mu truly loved Wen Han now, like how she loved me before, perhaps I wouldn’t interfere and would let them be. But there’s no real love between them, and in such a marriage, Su Mu could never be happy. She would only suppress her personality in those days and transform into the wife Wen Han expects, the daughter-in-law the Wen Family likes, and the stepmother Wen Shaoyuan is fond of. She would become a person without her own identity."

The old lady frowned slightly,

"How do you know all this?"

Fu Shinian smiled faintly,

"Haven’t you heard the saying, Granny? Because of love, one can become reckless, but look at Wen Han and Su Mu, at most, there is mutual respect between them. Can you bear to see your beloved Su Mu become what I just described after marriage?"

"That’s just your assumption. What if she starts to like Wen Han through constant interactions?"

"If she could like him, she would have within these three years. Why wait until now?" Fu Shinian looked at the old lady, "I just want to ask you one thing: Do you still wish for Su Mu to be your granddaughter-in-law again? Do you want Qiqi to be around you all the time?"

The old lady sighed softly,

"Some things can’t be achieved just because you wish for them."

"I admit that, but once I desire something, I must pursue it. That’s the only way not to live in vain. I’ve already missed out on three years with Su Mu; I don’t want to continue missing out for the rest of my life."

The old lady looked at Fu Shinian, unsure of what to say.

---

After the old lady and Fu Shinian left, Qiqi fell asleep again. Jiang Bei sat on the sofa, staring blankly at Su Mu, remaining in a daze until Su Mu finished soothing Qiqi and sat down beside her without responding.

Su Mu watched Jiang Bei quietly, before finally speaking up,

"What’s wrong with you?"

Jiang Bei came back to her senses and smiled,

"It’s nothing, just thinking about something that’s all."

"What were you thinking about?"

Jiang Bei pursed her lips, "It was regarding a patient just now, nothing important."

Su Mu watched Jiang Bei for a few seconds. Just as Jiang Bei was about to speak, unaware of anything amiss, Su Mu spoke slowly,

"Xiaobei, have I ever told you something?"

"What?"

"When you lie, you have a habit of pursing your lips."

Jiang Bei froze.

Su Mu let out a soft sigh,

"What did Fu Shinian mean by those words he said earlier, that your problems are more thorny than his? What’s happened to you?"
