Chapter 373: Chapter 373: Girlfriend Status, Not Yet Used to It

To be honest, Su Mu had anticipated this question, but she had not expected Qiqi to react this way. She gently raised her head and touched the girl’s hair,

"Who told you that?"

"After you and Aunt Ji went out today, Grandma Zhou and Grandpa Wen were discussing your marriage to Uncle Wen. I didn’t know, and even when I asked Brother Shaoyuan he said he didn’t know."

"Is this why you’re upset?"

Qiqi didn’t speak, but how could her silence not be a form of consent?

Su Mu sighed faintly, "Qiqi, I thought you liked Uncle Wen."

"I do like Uncle Wen, and I like Grandpa Wen and Grandma Zhou as well, and I like Brother Shaoyuan even more, but does liking someone mean you have to marry them?" Qiqi looked at Su Mu with puzzlement on her face, "What will happen to Dad after you marry Uncle Wen? And what about me and Brother Shaoyuan? Grandma Zhou said that if you marry Uncle Wen, it would be impossible for me to marry Brother Shaoyuan. But I want to marry Brother Shaoyuan."

While Qiqi’s words were somewhat amusing, Su Mu was slightly taken aback; after all, she had never forgotten Fu Shinian, and even though she was so fond of Wen Han, his place in her heart couldn’t surpass that of a ’father’ who had never been by her side.

Su Mu couldn’t say exactly what she was feeling at that moment; it was a complete mess, but no matter what, she now had to comfort the little princess’s downcast mood,

"Qiqi, I am indeed with your Uncle Wen now, but marriage is a distant matter, and in the end, we might not get married at all. You’re only three years old now, thinking about too much."

"Really?"

"Yes," Su Mu smiled faintly, "I know your Brother Shaoyuan is great, and you like him a lot now, but Qiqi, there is still a very long time for you to grow up. So much can change in ways we can’t imagine. But don’t worry, I think I won’t let you be wronged. When you grow up, if your feelings are still stable, and you are sure no matter what you want to marry him, I will make it happen for you, no matter how difficult it is."

Su Mu’s words were a bit too complex for Qiqi, but she understood the meaning that she and Wen Shaoyuan wouldn’t be separated and that in the end, she would marry Wen Shaoyuan. So she smiled faintly,

"Of course I’m sure, I want to marry Brother Shaoyuan now."

Su Mu smiled faintly and began to help Qiqi bathe, without saying anything more.

Su Mu had thought that if Qiqi’s mood improved, everything would be fine, but after the bath, Qiqi’s mood fell again. This time Su Mu was sure it wasn’t her mood but that she was really running a fever. She realized Wen Han hadn’t left while carrying Qiqi out of the bathroom; he was sitting on the living room couch, idly watching a silent television.

Upon seeing them come out, Wen Han stood up,

"Are you done?"

Su Mu nodded, "I thought you had left."

"Qiqi is feeling unwell, I need to make sure she’s okay before I can rest easy." He then looked at Qiqi, noticing she seemed even more listless than before, and with a slightly furrowed brow, he stepped forward, placing the back of his hand gently on Qiqi’s forehead. This time, he was truly certain,

"Qiqi has a fever, we should go to the hospital."

"No need for now, she’s been sick before, and the hospital would only give her some antibiotics. I’ll try to lower her fever with physical methods first, as they’ve worked well for her before."

Wen Han agreed with Su Mu’s approach, nodding slightly without saying anything more.

From the bathroom’s entrance to Qiqi’s room, the short journey had already seen Qiqi falling asleep. Su Mu carefully placed her on the bed, tucked her in, and turned to get the family medicine box. She took Qiqi’s temperature with a thermometer to find it was 38.3 degrees Celsius. Wen Han had cared for children before and knew this temperature was high.

"Should we go to the hospital?"

"She just fell asleep; I’ll try cooling her down physically first."

Qiqi might have been a small child, but she was still a young girl. As Su Mu wiped her with alcohol, Wen Han stepped out of the room. When Su Mu emerged an hour and a half later, Wen Han still hadn’t left. Su Mu was a bit tired and had been neglecting Wen Han due to Qiqi’s illness. Seeing his worried expression now, she felt somewhat guilty,

"I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to ignore you because of Qiqi’s discomfort."

Wen Han slightly furrowed his brow at her,

"What’s our relationship now that you need to be so formal with me?"

Su Mu smiled and didn’t say anything. Wen Han then extended his right hand to her. Su Mu looked at him for a few seconds, walked over, and gently placed her hand in Wen Han’s palm. The next second, he gripped it tightly and gently pulled her into his embrace.

The unexpected move made Su Mu instinctively resist, but Wen Han held her tightly, saying,

"Su Mu, have you not gotten used to being my girlfriend yet?"

Su Mu didn’t speak because to deny it would be a lie; indeed, she still hadn’t adapted to the role of Wen Han’s girlfriend. But if she spoke the truth, she feared Wen Han would be unhappy.

She had never been in love, and her relationship with Fu Shinian had skipped many steps to marriage, so she didn’t know what being in love felt like. But being with Wen Han brought a simultaneous sense of security and tiredness, not physical, but emotional.

Su Mu didn’t know if this emotional fatigue would improve with time spent together. She hoped it would because if it continued this way, perhaps she wouldn’t be able to persist.

What Su Mu’s silence represented might not be entirely unknown to Wen Han, but even if he knew, what could he do about it? He couldn’t make demands or say anything, so he pretended not to know and smiled faintly,

"It’s getting late, and you’ve looked after Qiqi for so long, you should go rest."

Su Mu nodded and sat up from Wen Han’s embrace, looking at him,

"Be careful when you drive, and let me know when you get home."

Wen Han smiled slightly,

"Do you want me to leave?"

Su Mu was taken aback, looking at Wen Han.

Seeing Su Mu’s evident nervousness, Wen Han felt a tickle in his chest but suppressed it, and ended up just smiling,

"Don’t think too much, I didn’t stay with intentions of doing anything to you. Qiqi is sick now, and in case something bad happens in the middle of the night, it’s better I’m here to help if you’re alone."

Su Mu let out a sigh of relief inside,

"I wasn’t thinking too much."

"Really?"

Wen Han suddenly leaned closer to Su Mu; their distance was a mere hair’s breadth away, so close their breaths entwined, so close Su Mu could see her own small, uneasy reflection in Wen Han’s eyes.
