Chapter 347: Disregarding Changes, Business as Usual
Chapter 347: Chapter 347: Disregarding Changes, Business as Usual
Lin Ning was Ji Nanfeng’s personal bodyguard, trained from childhood as an assassin, which was why Fu Shinian could request someone like him. If it were anyone else, Ji Nanfeng probably wouldn’t have cared and might have even slapped them.
Placing Lin Ning by Su Mu’s side was ostensibly as her assistant, but in reality, he was always protecting her. Although nothing significant had occurred in the past three years, having Lin Ning by her side made Fu Shinian feel somewhat more at ease.
Now that Ji Nanfeng had abandoned his underworld business, Lin Ning’s role for Ji Nanfeng was no longer significant. Perhaps Lin Ning stayed by Su Mu’s side because he was aware of this change.
It was a good thing, but it was uncertain whether Su Mu would accept her again.
After speaking with Lin Ning, Fu Shinian didn’t leave. His thoughts turned to Su Shiyue upstairs, he looked up and then went upstairs.
The villa’s second floor had a small living room. The moment Fu Shinian reached upstairs, he saw Su Shiyue sitting on the sofa, legs curled up, lost in thought, and she didn’t realize when Fu Shinian approached. Fu Shinian stared at her for a long time, remembering her as the capricious little girl she used to be, yet it seemed that in the blink of an eye, she had matured deeply.
"What are you thinking about?"
Startled by his voice, Su Shiyue looked up at Fu Shinian, then slowly unfolded her legs and sat up straight, obediently calling out,
"Brother."
Fu Shinian responded softly, sitting on the sofa opposite her. From there, Fu Shinian could just see the scenery outside; the sky was overcast, seeming ready to rain at any moment. It was fitting—after so many events, everyone’s hearts were cloaked in dust. A heavy rain would be the perfect cleanser.
"All the domestic matters are resolved, and you don’t have to stay abroad anymore. If you want to come back, you can, I was able to protect you before and I still can. You can continue being yourself." Fu Shinian’s gaze slowly moved to Su Shiyue, "I only have one request, don’t be as recklessly arrogant as you were years ago, or I won’t let you off."
Hearing this, Su Shiyue’s lips slightly twitched, as if she wanted to smile, but couldn’t.
Seeing Su Shiyue like this, Fu Shinian couldn’t help but worry, but there were some things that if Su Shiyue didn’t speak of herself, Fu Shinian would never bring them up, even though he did not think any less of her for those reasons.
After a long silence, Fu Shinian stood up from the sofa. He really didn’t have much time to waste here, worried about Su Mu, his grandmother, and also really wanting to see Su Yimo. He hadn’t stopped thinking about her since they last met. Previously, he refrained from seeing her to avoid harming her, but now that everything had settled, he could finally be with her rightfully.
"I’m going back to the hospital to see Su Mu, call me if you need anything."
As he turned to leave, Su Shiyue suddenly called out to him, making him stop and turn back, "What is it?"
"When did you know?" Su Shiyue looked him in the eye, not evading his gaze, "You must have known, right?"
Fu Shinian paused for a moment and then said softly,
"I’ve known from the beginning. Shi Lihua had never shared a room with father, how could you be his?"
"Does Grandma also know?"
"Yes, Grandma knows too," Fu Shinian looked at her, "But what does it matter if you’re not a child of the Fu family? The Fu family supports hundreds of orphans every day. You are my sister, naturally I can’t neglect you. Besides, that was a grudge of the older generation, Grandma won’t confuse these things."
Remembering how good her grandmother had been to her, Su Shiyue couldn’t help a bitter smile:
"You should have told me earlier."
"Why mention this? Whether spoken or unspoken, you are my sister, in blood and emotion, there’s no surprise there. Are you not the one I brought up since childhood? Do you think knowing your true background will make you not want to acknowledge me as your brother?"
"How could I?" Su Shiyue rose from the sofa, agitated, "It’s just, I feel I was so ridiculous before, thinking you wanted to drive me out of the Fu family. Brother... I was foolish and wrong before, I won’t be anymore."
Fu Shinian smiled slightly:
"I have always seen the changes in you over the years, so I believe in you."
When Fu Shinian left the villa, the police car had already arrived. He did not linger, leaving everything in the hands of Song Yi, and went straight to the old lady’s place. There were some things that now needed to be explained to her properly.
Su Mu woke up as dusk approached, and it took her a long time to recognize the unfamiliar surroundings—it was again the Fu family’s private hospital room. Who brought her here? Why was she arranged to be here? But all these things were irrelevant to her now. She remembered seeing Wen Han hazily; if her memory served right, it must have been him who saved her.
As she moved to get out of bed, the door to the hospital room was gently pushed open from outside. Qiao Yu had intended to check if Su Mu had woken up, keeping his voice low. But seeing Su Mu like this, he reverted to normal, and with a smile, stepped inside:
"Awake?"
Su Mu nodded, "Was it Wen Han who saved me?"
"Yes," Qiao Yu was straightforward, "You had called me at the time, but I was with the old lady and couldn’t answer. I’m sorry you had to suffer through that."
"It has nothing to do with you," Su Mu shook her head, not wanting to dwell on the matter, "Is Wen Han hurt? Where is he?"
Qiao Yu nodded, sensing the importance of Wen Han to Su Mu, she hadn’t even put much thought into their conversation. He smiled lightly and didn’t continue to force the conversation:
"He’s in the next room, I’ll take you there. Don’t worry, the surgery went very smoothly, with proper care there won’t be any long-term effects; it won’t affect him at all."
Even hearing Qiao Yu’s reassurance, Su Mu felt heavy-hearted. The fact that it reached the point of surgery implied the injury was serious. Wen Han was the person she least wanted to owe in her life; she had failed him years ago and again these past three years. Now, it seemed she owed him her life.
What she owed him seemed an unpayable debt across a lifetime.
At the door of Wen Han’s room, Qiao Yu didn’t intend to follow her in, as it would be impolite. He smiled slightly,
"I’ll go and get busy, Wen Han should be awake. Have a good talk, call me if you need anything."
Su Mu nodded, pushing the door open directly.
