Chapter 341: Chapter 341: For Su Mu, Even Life Doesn’t Matter

There was no time to think too much; Shi Lihua had only one thought now: Su Mu could not leave this place, otherwise all her efforts would have been in vain. Yet, faced with the overwhelming disparity in strength between her and her enemies, she seemed somewhat at a loss.

Shi Lihua had originally been very confident about the affair with Su Mu, so she hadn’t called for any backup. After all, she was the only one with the virus medicine, and anyone who wanted to survive had to get the antidote from her. Anyone who cared about Su Mu wouldn’t do anything to her. But she had not anticipated that Su Mu’s body would be immune to the virus.

After a moment of panic, Shi Lihua calmed down. She watched as the three people in front of her continued to grow more distant, then quickly returned to her office. From a hidden compartment in the drawer, she took out a gun. Without a word, she concealed the gun behind her and followed closely behind the trio.

Su Shiyue had a bad feeling and whispered to Wen Han:

"She has been following us."

Wen Han, who was very sensitive, had long been aware of Shi Lihua’s movements and was naturally on guard. But holding Su Mu, who had fallen asleep again, limited the effectiveness of any precautions. So when Shi Lihua fired the gun at Wen Han, aside from a muffled grunt, he had no other means of response.

Shi Lihua’s marksmanship was accurate, and the bullet struck Wen Han’s lower leg. Fu Shinian was terrified by the sound of the gunshot and screamed, while Wen Han just paused for a few seconds on the spot. He still held Su Mu tightly, not even trembling once. He turned his head to look at Shi Lihua, who still maintained her shooting stance:

"Put Su Mu down, and I will spare your life."

Wen Han stood at the stairs from the basement to the first floor, and by looking up, he could see the first floor. Thus, he also saw the fleeting figure. The figure seemed to notice him and quietly retreated to a visible position. Their gazes interlocked, and the figure pointed at the electrical breaker beside him, then quickly disappeared.

His leg hurt terribly, but Wen Han felt a sigh of relief in his heart. He glanced sideways at Fu Shinian, whose face had turned pale with fear, and smiled faintly:

"Shiyue, I can’t take you with me now."

Fu Shinian hadn’t grasped the meaning of his words, and neither had Shi Lihua. But she knew that this meant bad news for her. Before she had time to say anything more, she aimed at Wen Han’s other leg. But before she could fire, the already dim lab went completely dark.

Worried about accidentally hurting Fu Shinian, Shi Lihua didn’t shoot. But she could clearly hear footsteps growing more distant, followed by the sound of sirens, growing nearer and nearer.

When Wen Han stepped out of the lab, Lin Ning greeted him. She crouched down swiftly in front of Wen Han:

"Give me Su Mu; I’ll carry him."

Wen Han gave her a meaningful look: "I can still manage; let’s go."

Lin Ning clenched her teeth but didn’t insist further. On guard and moving swiftly, she escorted Wen Han toward the car. Wei Shaoqin had already heard the noise but hadn’t dared to show himself. Now, seeing Wen Han’s figure from afar, he quickly ran over. Only after seeing Su Mu in his arms did he breathe a sigh of relief, but he frowned again upon seeing Lin Ning:

"How come you’re here?"

Lin Ning smiled but didn’t answer. Instead, she said:

"Since Sister Su is out and the police have arrived, I’ll avoid the commotion and leave first."

Wen Han gave her a look: "Go."

Upon hearing this, Lin Ning dashed into the nearby woods and soon vanished from sight. Wei Shaoqin wanted to ask more, but Wen Han had already placed Su Mu inside the car and spoke out:

"You take Su Mu and go first."

Wei Shaoqin glanced at the unconscious Su Mu and then at the pale-faced Wen Han:

"I thought I heard gunshots just now. Are you okay?"

Without offering much of an explanation, Wen Han directly instructed Wei Shaoqin, "Su Mu seems to have contracted a virus. No matter what issues you have with Fu Shinian, right now you must quickly get Su Mu to Qiao Yu and have him confirm it. Call me once you have news."

Wei Shaoqin wanted to say something else, but Wen Han cut him off, "Go quickly."

Knowing Wen Han’s nature and that whatever he did, he always had good judgment, Wei Shaoqin didn’t say anything further and immediately got in the car and left that place of trouble.

——

If Qiao Yu had known that not being able to receive calls on his cellphone would lead to such a big accident, he would never have left it in the car.

He had gone to check on an elderly lady’s health today. The old lady still believed she was living three years in the past, and even the TV in the room was showing news from three years ago. Everything was well-masked, and, fearing that his cellphone might accidentally reveal something that could affect the old lady, Qiao Yu had deliberately left it in the car. Little did he know that by missing Su Mu’s call, he had invited this disaster.

When he left the old lady’s residence and saw the message from Fu Shinian lying in his phone, his heart sank a little. He tried calling Fu Shinian back, but the call was directed to a powered-off notice, which likely meant Fu Shinian was already on the return flight.

Qiao Yu had waited in the hospital lobby for a long time before he saw Wei Shaoqin’s car arriving late. He quickly ran over and, seeing Su Mu unconscious in the passenger seat, he frowned. In the past three years, no one understood the familiarity of this sickly state more than he did. However, he had never expected to see something similar with Su Mu.

If this calamity was inevitable sooner or later, then why did Fu Shinian bother sending Su Mu away from his side with such cruelty in the first place?

As Su Mu was placed on the stretcher, Wei Shaoqin helped Qiao Yu move quickly into the hospital, asking as they went:

"I took a quick look, and she doesn’t seem to have any external injuries. She should be fine, right?"

His voice clearly conveyed worry, and without looking, Qiao Yu could deeply feel it. He turned to Wei Shaoqin, and, not knowing whether it was from nervousness or exhaustion, sweat continuously dripped down his forehead. He too wished he could give Wei Shaoqin a definite answer, but he couldn’t and only said:

"We’ll have to wait for the examination results. Don’t worry, if there is anything, I won’t let her come to harm."

When Wen Han appeared in the corridor in a wheelchair, Su Mu’s examination was still not complete. Wei Shaoqin and Qiao Yu were standing outside the examination room waiting for the results. Upon seeing Wen Han’s pallid face and his roughly bandaged leg, Qiao Yu quickly approached with a slight frown:

"Are you planning to lose that leg? Why come here instead of getting surgery?"

Wen Han’s face was devoid of color, but he still managed a smile, saying:

"Qiao Yu, I just want to ask one thing—how is Su Mu?"

At that moment, Qiao Yu felt that perhaps Wen Han being with Su Mu might be happier than her being with Fu Shinian. But on second thought, such ideas were inadvisable, considering that three years ago, Fu Shinian too had risked his entire life for Su Mu.
