Chapter 328: What to Do with the Two Little Ones
Chapter 328: Chapter 328: What to Do with the Two Little Ones
"What are you doing?" Zhou Yaxian glared at him. "Of course, I’m helping you chase after your wife. You say you’re a soldier and can handle anything else decisively, so why do you hesitate when it comes to matters of the heart?"
Wen Han: "..."
What a misunderstanding! Where had he been hesitant? He had already confessed his feelings, okay? Su Mu had also agreed to consider it, okay? Everything was developing in a positive direction—couldn’t his mother see that?
Wen Shaoyuan smiled aloud, gently pulling Zhou Yaxian by the hand to sit down on the sofa:
"Grandma, actually, Dad hasn’t been hesitant. He already confessed to Aunt Su."
Zhou Yaxian paused for a moment and immediately looked at Wen Han with surprise:
"Really? What did Su Mu say?"
Wen Han sighed and sat down on the sofa opposite, casually picking up an orange to peel and eat. But Zhou Yaxian slapped his hand away:
"What are you eating? Just say it."
Wen Han: "..."
Seeing his father looking so frustrated, Wen Shaoyuan didn’t feel a bit of sympathy; instead, he couldn’t help laughing. However, he immediately caught Wen Han’s warning gaze. With Zhou Yaxian present, Wen Shaoyuan wasn’t afraid and spoke up:
"Grandma, Aunt Su didn’t accept Dad."
Zhou Yaxian had anticipated this answer, but she still hoped that Su Mu would agree. Yet, hearing it still inevitably brought disappointment, so she vented her displeasure on Wen Han:
"I knew Su Mu wouldn’t agree with you."
"She hasn’t agreed with me yet, but she also said she would consider it. Isn’t that progress?"
Wen Shaoyuan smiled slightly:
"Dad, don’t you think that Aunt Su might be just stalling? Maybe your confession made her unsure how to reject you outright, rather than her agreeing."
"You little..."
"Shaoyuan is right," Zhou Yaxian looked at Wen Han. "I also think Su Mu wouldn’t easily agree with you. I don’t mean she’s just posturing or anything, but with all the hurt she’s endured, the experiences she’s had, how could a few sweet words of yours be enough for her to agree?"
Wen Han felt this might be the most frustrating time of his life. He sighed helplessly as he looked at the two in front of him:
"When have I ever been all talk? Every word I spoke to Su Mu came from my heart. I didn’t make her any empty promises. Everything I said is what I want to, and will, do for her. I think Su Mu believes me too; that’s why she agreed to consider it. We’ve known each other for so many years. Doesn’t she know what kind of person I am?"
"Hard to say." Zhou Yaxian continued to discourage her son, "Back then, Su Mu and Fu Shinian also lived together for so long. Su Mu knew what kind of person Fu Shinian was too, didn’t she?"
"Isn’t that different?"
"How is it different?" Zhou Yaxian still lacked confidence in her son. "You were busy with work before, rarely coming home. Now that you’ve finally been transferred back, you should spend more time thinking about Su Mu. Some things aren’t just about what you say, but about what you do. Su Mu isn’t easy to chase, but if you manage to win her over, you and Shaoyuan will lead a blessed life."
Wen Han smiled slightly:
"Yes, I will definitely try hard."
Wen Shaoyuan also cheered him on, "Go, Dad!"
Zhou Yaxian looking at Wen Shaoyuan, couldn’t help feeling a bit worried again, "If you and Su Mu really end up together, what will happen to Shaoyuan and Qiqi in the future?"
Wen Han: "...Mom, Shaoyuan is only 8 years old, and Qiqi is just 3 years old."
"Some things need to be considered ahead of time."
Wen Han: "..."
Before heading back to his room, Wen Han stood at the top of the stairs, hesitating. To the left was the guest room, to the right his own bedroom. He wanted to check on Su Mu, but he wasn’t sure if it was the right time. Perhaps she was already asleep with Su Yimo.
As he was about to walk to his room, the door to the guest room opened, and Su Mu appeared in the hallway. The dim yellow light above her head enveloped her, casting a warm yellow glow around her. Just looking at her made Wen Han feel an inexplicable softness in his heart.
"Why aren’t you asleep yet?"
Su Mu probably hadn’t expected to see Wen Han in the hallway at that time either. She walked over, "I think I left my bag at the entrance. I’m going to get my phone."
Wen Han nodded:
"I’ll get it for you."
"No..."
Before Su Mu could finish her sentence, Wen Han had already turned and gone downstairs. Watching his retreating figure, Su Mu felt a heavy weight in her heart. She knew how good Wen Han was to her and his sincerity, but she was unsure if she deserved such goodness.
Wen Han quickly returned, standing in front of her and handing her the bag:
"It’s late, you shouldn’t play with your phone."
Su Mu laughed:
"I’m not a child. I just need to deal with some work matters."
"Still, don’t stay up too late."
"Okay." Su Mu smiled, "You too."
Wen Han nodded, "Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
For a moment, Wen Han really wanted to kiss her, but he managed to suppress that impulsive urge. He knew if he leaned in, Su Mu might not reject him in the moment, given how fast he was likely to act. But what about after?
Su Mu would be scared, and there would inevitably be some barriers between them.
He had said that even if Su Mu didn’t agree, he would make their relationship as it had been before. Thus, a kiss, such an intimate act, could only happen after she agreed to be together, otherwise, it would be inappropriate.
After saying goodnight, Su Mu thought Wen Han would turn and leave, but he still stood there. This surprised Su Mu, who was about to head back to her room:
"Why aren’t you going back?"
"I’ll watch you go into your room."
Su Mu opened her mouth as if to say something but ultimately didn’t make any other sound. She gave a faint smile and turned to enter her room.
---
Su Mu had a habit of finding it difficult to sleep in unfamiliar beds, but perhaps because Su Yimo was sweetly asleep next to her, she managed to sleep quite well. When she opened her eyes, it was already 7 a.m., and sunlight was seeping through the gaps in the curtains. After last night’s heavy rain, today’s weather was likely to be cloudless.
As she got out of bed, Su Yimo also slowly opened her eyes. Seeing Su Mu first thing made her smile slightly and reach out to be hugged. Su Mu, feeling helpless, lay back down and allowed her to cling to her neck. She kissed Su Mu on the cheek:
"Mu, morning~"
"Morning."
After they got dressed and went downstairs around 7:30 a.m., Zhou Yaxian, Wen Han, and Wen Shaoyuan were already there. Su Mu smiled and greeted them, while Su Yimo sweetly called out "Grandma" and then hurried downstairs. Su Mu told her to be careful and was looking up when her gaze met Ji Qingluan’s.
