Chapter 326: Chapter 326: Three Years of Endurance, Finally Coming to an End
Xu Yansu cleaned the virus for the old lady in the ward, while Qiao Yu and Fu Shinian stood quietly in front of the window outside the intensive care unit, watching everything happening inside.
Qiao Yu let out a long sigh:
"No matter what, your wish for the past three years has finally been fulfilled, although it wasn’t the medicine I researched. But saving the old lady is more important than anything else."
Fu Shinian responded softly:
"Yes, it’s all about to end."
"What are you going to do with Shi Lihua?"
Fu Shinian’s lips curved up slightly: "How do you think I would deal with someone who wanted me dead? Even if her blood runs through my veins, she didn’t care, so I care even less."
"If you think about it, there are quite a few people you have to deal with recently."
Three years earlier, when the old lady fainted for the first time, Fu Shinian had already suspected that something was not simple. At that time, Qiao Yu had already detected a hard-to-notice virus in the old lady’s blood. After he told Fu Shinian, the two decided to keep it hidden. After all, the person who could poison the old lady under Fu Shinian’s watch must be someone close. Since it was not clear who it was, Fu Shinian could not afford to alert the enemy prematurely.
Now that everything had settled, and the old lady was about to recover, Fu Shinian could return all the endured grievances to those people.
"How are things on Nanfeng’s side?"
Qiao Yu nodded:
"Everything is ready, you don’t have to worry."
"Mhm."
Just as their conversation ended, Ji Nanfeng appeared in the hallway. When Fu Shinian and Qiao Yu turned to look over, Ji Nanfeng had already approached and glanced into the ward:
"You just let Xu Yansu be in there alone? If she does something else, it’ll be too late to even cry."
"That won’t happen," Fu Shinian said indifferently, "Shi Lihua wouldn’t allow it."
"Are you so sure?"
Fu Shinian looked at him, smiling slightly:
"Didn’t you tell me recently that Yu Qingzhou, the adopted son of Shi Lihua, had a health issue?"
"Yeah, it seems like a hereditary disease. You didn’t care at the time, right? Why bring this up all of a sudden, is it related to this incident?"
"It’s because during this time, I remembered the research Shi Lihua was working on before she left the Fu family. It seems to be related to this disease. I just didn’t expect that the person she wanted to cure had left before she could complete her research. Then my father passed away, and she only took a large sum of money with her. As for the research results, grandma had taken them."
Qiao Yu understood:
"You mean, actually clearing the virus from the old lady was Shi Lihua’s idea? She wanted the old lady to hand over the research results from back then?"
"Yeah, she cared so much about her first love, to the extent of sacrificing her family and children. Therefore, as the only son of her first love, Shi Lihua naturally wouldn’t just watch Yu Qingzhou meet the same end as her first love. She had to save him. But the only one who knew where last year’s research results were is grandma. To get them, she had no choice but to wake the old lady."
If Shi Lihua had been using the old lady’s life to control Fu Shinian these three years, then Fu Shinian also had a clear grasp of everything about Shi Lihua; it just wasn’t time to reveal everything yet.
Previously, her whereabouts were elusive, and Fu Shinian had no leads whatsoever. But once she appeared, Fu Shinian had ways to thoroughly investigate her.
He knew that Shi Lihua went directly to Italy after leaving the Fu family, had kept Yu Qingzhou by her side like her own son for many years, and knew how six years ago she began collecting his information by getting in touch with Qin Nianwan. He was also aware of how she meticulously cultivated her pawns to make the old lady sick, intending to return for a specific purpose.
He played along with her act simply because she had been very careful in hiding the medicine over the past three years, preventing Fu Shinian from finding any opportunity to make his move. The medicine had been regularly sent from abroad to Shen City every month, and it was only recently, after three years of investigation, that Ji Nanfeng found a clue along this line.
Ji Nanfeng fell silent for a few seconds:
"If everything is as you suspect, wouldn’t it be even more dangerous for the old lady to wake up?"
"That’s why, we can’t give Shi Lihua any opportunity."
Ji Nanfeng nodded:
"Don’t worry, I will take good care of the old lady and ensure that Shi Lihua won’t have any chance to get near her again."
Fu Shinian nodded and said nothing more.
——
After having dinner outside, Su Mu and Wen Han decided to take a walk since the restaurant was near the riverbank.
Aside from a previous meal they had alone in Portugal, this was the first time they were together without anyone else around — not even the children. After Wen Han’s confession last time, such a meeting should have felt awkward, but Su Mu’s mind was filled with other concerns, so she felt less of the expected embarrassment.
The weather had been nice during the day, but now it seemed gloomy, as if it might rain at any moment. However, this weather had its advantages; at least the air was no longer hot and stuffy. The night breeze, mixed with the scent of the river, brushed against their faces, refreshing and relaxing them in a rare moment of comfort.
The two sat down on a bench by the river. Wen Han looked at a vendor selling children’s balloons and softly asked:
"Would you like to buy a balloon to play with?"
Su Mu laughed at his suggestion: "Even Qiqi wouldn’t play with those anymore."
Wen Han smiled and after a moment of silence said:
"Are you preoccupied with something today?"
Su Mu thought she had disguised it well, yet Wen Han saw right through her. She looked at him, not saying a word, until Wen Han spoke again:
"I admit you’ve been trying hard to maintain appearances, but being a former Scout, it’s still very easy for me to see through your true emotions."
Su Mu faintly tugged at the corners of her mouth and stopped hiding:
"Today, when we finished work, Fu Shinian received a call. It seemed like something happened to the old lady. Before I could even ask a question, he rushed off in a hurry."
"Are you worried?"
Su Mu nodded, acknowledging her feelings:
"Over these three years, I never once inquired about anything to do with the Fu family. I didn’t know, didn’t hear, so I didn’t think much of it. But now that I’ve heard, and with Xiaobei telling me that the old lady has been in poor health, I can’t help but worry."
Wen Han nodded, fully understanding:
"If you’re worried, why don’t you go to the hospital to see her?"
Su Mu shook her head with a slight smile:
"My concern is because of the meticulous care and affection the old lady showed me during my two years with the Fu family. No matter what Fu Shinian considers me, or how he sees me, I believe that the old lady’s feelings for me are genuine; she really treated me like her own granddaughter. But even so, I shouldn’t get too involved with the Fu family anymore. Moreover, now that the old lady has unclear consciousness and muddled memories, there’s even less need for me to be there."
