Chapter 310: Chapter 310: Because I Care, I Won’t

Qiqi hadn’t taken it to heart before, but today those kids went too far. They weren’t just talking about Qiqi, they were talking about Su Mu, calling her a mistress supported by someone else, and saying Qiqi was illegitimate, which is why she didn’t have a father.

Children actually have no idea what a mistress is, but from their faces and their tone of voice, it was clear it wasn’t anything nice to say. Qiqi wasn’t angry for herself; she wouldn’t allow others to talk about Su Mu like that. So, she got angry and said to those friends:

"I’m going to find my dad right now and shut you all up."

But once she was away from her friends, Su Yimo, who had been so angry, suddenly didn’t know what to do. She first called Wei Shaoqin, but unfortunately, Wei Shaoqin was on a business trip abroad and was on a plane with his phone turned off. Su Yimo couldn’t find Dad Wei Shaoqin, and she didn’t want to go back and let her friends continue to talk about Su Mu.

Despite her young age, she knew that if she didn’t bring her dad back with her this time, those people would laugh at her even more, mocking Su Mu and saying even worse things. So, she remembered what Su Mu had once told her: if you can’t find someone, go to the police uncle, and they will help you.

Because of this one sentence, Su Yimo went to the police station, but what she hadn’t expected was that the police uncle could do nothing about her ’dad’ either.

By the time she realized she had caused trouble, it was already too late. At that time, she was not only immersed in the sense of loss of not finding her dad, but there was also a sense of guilt about facing Su Mu. So, when Su Mu entered the police station, she didn’t want to face Su Mu and clung tightly to Wen Han’s neck. It wasn’t that she didn’t want Su Mu to hug her, but she was worried that Su Mu would ask her why she had done it.

She couldn’t lie, but the truth would definitely make Su Mu sad, so she had no choice but to hide.

Wen Han patiently listened as Su Yimo told the whole disjointed story, and although there were some logical problems, it didn’t prevent him from understanding. He gently stroked Su Yimo’s little head and smiled slightly:

"Uncle Wen understands Qiqi’s thoughts, and I also understand what you did. If it were me, I think I would have done the same thing."

Su Yimo looked at Wen Han with some disbelief:

"Really?"

"Mm-hmm," Wen Han nodded. "Because Mom is the most important person in the world to me. Others can bully me, they can speak ill of me, but they absolutely cannot speak ill of Mom. So, your action of stepping forward to protect Mom was completely correct, and Uncle Wen supports you."

Su Yimo’s expression relaxed considerably as she looked at Wen Han.

"But Qiqi, you’re still young, and you don’t see things as thoroughly as your mom and Uncle Wen. Have you ever thought that you could run into bad people on the way to find the police uncle? If you were taken by the bad people, then you wouldn’t be able to protect your Su Mu anymore."

Su Yimo lowered her head:

"I was wrong."

"Also, you refused to let Su Mu hug you at the police station. Do you know she was very sad? She thought you were angry with her."

"No, no," Su Yimo said anxiously. "Why would I be angry with Su Mu?"

"Uncle Wen knows you’re not angry with Su Mu, but she doesn’t know that, especially after finding out why you went to the police station. She feels even more sorry because she thinks she hasn’t given you a complete family or let your dad be with you all the time." Wen Han hugged her a bit tighter: "You didn’t see how worried Su Mu was this afternoon when she found out you were missing. I think if she really couldn’t find you, she would die."

Su Yimo was a bit frightened:

"I’ll never dare to wander off on my own again."

"To learn from your mistakes is to be a good child." Wen Han smiled slightly, looked at her, and asked cautiously, "Qiqi, do you really want a dad?"

Su Yimo shook her head but didn’t speak. Wen Han believed she didn’t want to be without her parents by her side—no child did. Yet, sometimes reality didn’t allow their desires to be fulfilled. Seeing that Su Yimo didn’t wish to continue on that topic, Wen Han didn’t press further and said softly,

"Then Qiqi, do you think you should go talk to Su Mu now? She has been waiting for you."

Su Yimo nodded:

"I should."

"Alright, to not disturb you both, Uncle Wen will stay in your room for a while until you and Su Mu have finished talking, is that okay?"

"Okay."

Su Yimo got out of Wen Han’s embrace, straightened her clothes, and put on her cute pink slippers at his reminder. After doing all this, she looked at Wen Han, smiled at him faintly, and said:

"Uncle Wen, thank you."

That night, Su Yimo and Su Mu talked about many things. Some lacked logic, while others deeply touched the most tender part of the heart. Su Mu really wanted to talk to Su Yimo about her father’s matters, but Su Yimo seemed not to want to listen and awkwardly changed the subject.

At that moment, Su Mu understood that Su Yimo cared deeply about ’Dad.’ Because she cared too much, she didn’t know how to express it.

Her guilt towards Su Yimo deepened.

That day, Su Mu let Su Yimo sleep in her own room. Watching her peaceful sleeping face, Su Mu had no sleep herself. She carefully left the room and went to the balcony. She reached behind a potted plant, took out something, shook out a cigarette, and lit it.

As the smell of nicotine spread, Su Mu exhaled deeply.

She had learned to smoke nearly a year ago. Initially, coffee ceased to have a stimulating effect on her, so she used cigarettes instead. Over time, when she felt agitated, she would also smoke one. Nobody knew of this bad habit, but that night, someone did, for Su Mu had forgotten that Wei Shaoqin was spending the night at home. Thus, when the cigarette was suddenly taken from her hand from behind, Su Mu was startled.

He was a special forces soldier, and slipping around unnoticed was far too easy for him. When Su Mu turned and saw Wei Shaoqin, her wildly beating heart didn’t slow down one bit. She saw the cigarette in his hand that had belonged to her.

"You... Why are you still awake?"

Wen Han looked deeply at her:

"When did you learn?"

Su Mu shifted her gaze away, looking out the window at the thick, impenetrable night. "Just an occasional cigarette, I’m not addicted."

"Why smoke?"

Su Mu smiled faintly:

"No particular reason. I need to stay up late for work, I use it to stay awake."

Wen Han looked at her for several seconds, knowing she was lying but not pursuing it further. Then he snuffed out the cigarette in the potted plant and pocketed the rest of her cigarettes, saying, "Confiscated."
