Chapter 305: Chapter 305: Meeting Him, Inevitable
"At first, it was because I liked your style and knew of your fame; I thought since I completely don’t understand this field, it’s always right to choose someone at the top. It’s not that you are the only option, but, Miss Su, don’t you think that going back on your word like this is somewhat frivolous? If I am not mistaken, actually your assistant didn’t do anything wrong, it’s your personal reason for not taking my order, right?"
Su Mu looked at her, silent.
"Actually, more than the reason why I chose you, I want to know why you won’t take my wedding photograph. I’ve thought about it all day today and am sure that I don’t know you, nor do I have any past issues with you. And it’s not possible for you to have met my fiancé either, so what is the real reason?"
"A photographer and a creator are no different; both value inspiration. After interacting with you, I realized I lack that inspiration in this regard, so my refusal is also a way of being responsible to you."
Xu Yansu smiled,
"So, should I thank you for being willing to compensate me with a million in damages just to be responsible for me?"
"You could see it that way."
"What if I insist?" Xu Yansu looked at her, "What would Miss Su do?"
Su Yimo appeared at the entrance of the reception room without knowing when. When Xu Yansu saw her, she waved her over. Su Mu followed Xu Yansu’s gaze and saw Su Yimo as well. Seeing that Su Mu did not object, Su Yimo walked over but did not go to Xu Yansu’s side; instead, she stood next to Su Mu.
"I had a pleasant chat with your daughter today."
Su Yimo looked up at Su Mu, silent, but her eyes were asking why she rejected taking the photographs.
"Since Miss Su feels that I cannot inspire you to take photographs, maybe I should let you meet my fiancé. Perhaps he can give you some different inspiration."
"No need," Su Mu declined her proposal, "There’s no need for that trouble. Just like you said, refusing this order is indeed my personal reason. I’m doing it for your good, but if you have no problems with it and can accept my lack of inspiration, then we can proceed according to the original contract."
Xu Yansu looked at her somewhat surprised:
"Really?"
"Yes."
Xu Yansu smiled contentedly, "Since that’s the case, it’s for the best. I was actually considering having my fiancé come here to persuade you as well."
Su Mu smiled but said nothing more.
She refused the order to avoid unnecessary trouble, but now she was agreeing to also avoid unnecessary trouble. Since meeting Fu Shinian was inevitable, whether she shot the photos or not, why should she lose a large sum of money?
It was just a set of wedding photographs, and it’s not like she hadn’t taken any before.
——
Fu Shinian found out that Su Mu had agreed to take their wedding photographs just as he was about to go to sleep. Xu Yansu came to his bedroom door to tell him the news. Fu Shinian’s expression did not change, but his heart was already churning like the sea:
"Did you come just to tell me this?"
"Yes, are you not happy about it?"
Fu Shinian sneered,
"Are you out of your mind? I’m even being forced into marrying you, do you think I would feel happy about being able to shoot the wedding photographs smoothly?"
After saying this, he went to close the door, but Xu Yansu stopped him:
"When are we getting married?"
Fu Shinian looked deeply at her for a few seconds, "It depends on when you remove the virus from the elderly lady."
Xu Yansu looked at him:
"So, you’ll only marry me after I’ve removed the virus from the elderly lady?"
"Are you that foolish? Aren’t you afraid I’ll go back on my word after you remove the virus?" Fu Shinian looked at her, "Let’s get engaged first, then you can remove the virus for the elderly lady, and after that, we’ll get married."
Xu Yansu shook her head:
"An engagement is not the same as marriage, you could still change your mind."
"By your logic, even after we’re married, I could still get a divorce."
"That’s different," Xu Yansu said, "Divorce involves two people. If I don’t agree, you can’t do it on your own. So, let’s register our marriage first, then get engaged, afterwards I’ll remove the virus, and once you’ve confirmed the old lady is fine, we can hold the wedding ceremony."
Fu Shinian laughed softly:
"What makes you think I would agree to your terms? Xu Yansu, to me, registering a marriage is as good as being married. You’re afraid I’ll change my mind, but I have the same worry about you. I can’t possibly agree to that."
"So you’ll just watch helplessly as the old lady gets worse day by day?"
"Of course I don’t want that, but have you considered that once I marry you, I’ll have nothing left to negotiate with you? You said it yourself—divorce requires two. I can’t just end things unilaterally. If we are married and you still refuse to remove the virus from the old lady, then I might also be out of options, right?"
Xu Yansu pressed her lips together in silence, letting Fu Shinian know she had taken his words to heart.
"How about this," Fu Shinian began, "we get engaged first. I will announce it to the public, ensuring everyone knows you are my fiancée. We’ll also take wedding photos. After all this is done, you help Granny with the virus. With so many people as witnesses, I won’t be able to run away."
Xu Yansu hesitated slightly; she seemed to be assessing the sincerity of Fu Shinian’s proposal:
"I know you’re not afraid of public opinion; you’ve never cared about that."
"Then what do I care about?"
"You only care about the old lady."
"So, I couldn’t possibly use the old lady’s situation as a joke with you," Fu Shinian looked at her, "This is the final line I can draw. If you agree to the deal, we continue; if you think I’m deceiving you, then the deal is off, and I will consider we never had this conversation."
After Fu Shinian said this, he was about to close the door, but once again, Xu Yansu stopped him:
"I agree."
"Aren’t you afraid I’d deceive you?"
"Since I’ve agreed, naturally I’m not afraid of you deceiving me."
Fu Shinian smiled faintly but said nothing more, simply closing the door.
He was originally a bit sleepy, as his body was not as healthy as before, but having spoken so long with Xu Yansu, he now felt not a bit of sleepiness. It wasn’t their discussions about the deal that had cleared away his sleepiness, but rather the news she had brought—that Su Mu had agreed to the photoshoot.
Why?
For three years he had deliberately avoided her, persisting and tormenting himself, not wanting to drag her into this vortex. As long as they did not meet, he could control himself. The encounter a year ago was impulsive and regrettable, as it had almost exposed him. But this time, Fu Shinian was not sure he could conceal his tracks.
When a string is pulled too taut, there’s bound to be a moment when it snaps.
