Chapter 304: Chapter 304: Other than Blood Ties, Everything Else is Irrelevant

Qiao Yu looked at her, and there was a few seconds of silence before he spoke softly:

"If that’s the only problem you’re worried about, then you really don’t have to. The illness of Shinian and the old lady has no genetic factors, your child will be very healthy."

"Really?"

Qiao Yu smiled slightly:

"At least her body won’t have this type of virus, I can assure you of that."

Su Mu visibly relaxed, she looked at Qiao Yu and gave a faint smile:

"Thank you. With your words, I can rest easy now."

She stood up from her seat, ready to leave, and Qiao Yu also got up: "Leaving?"

"Yes, the child is still at home, I’m not too at ease."

Qiao Yu knew that as long as Su Mu’s relationship with Fu Shinian remained as it was at present, he and Su Mu couldn’t talk too much like before, nor could he ask too much, or perhaps maintaining a distance was the best approach, so he didn’t stay her any longer.

"I was hoping to invite you for a meal, but it seems you won’t grant me this favor now."

Su Mu smiled:

"Better not."

"Alright, once things are settled, we can have a proper gathering then."

This remark caused Su Mu a moment of confusion, as if she didn’t understand the implied meaning in Qiao Yu’s words. What did he mean by ’once things are settled’? Was there still something unresolved between them?

Qiao Yu naturally noticed Su Mu’s perplexity but he couldn’t say more. He simply smiled faintly and saw her to the door:

"Actually, I have had quite a few opportunities to go on business trips to Jiangcheng City. Next time I go there, if it’s convenient for you, please let me see that child."

Su Mu didn’t speak, seemingly pondering the feasibility of his request.

"I promise not to tell anyone, especially not him."

Su Mu laughed softly:

"That child has nothing to do with him."

"If he’s not related, why would you come to ask me about the genetic factors? You know better than anyone that this child is his."

Su Mu looked up at him:

"Do you believe that?"

Qiao Yu certainly believed it. Not only did he believe it but so did Fu Shinian; the child could only be his. However, Shinian couldn’t acknowledge that, and it wasn’t right for Qiao Yu to acknowledge it either. If he admitted believing it since three years ago, it would undoubtedly paint a worse picture of Shinian in Su Mu’s heart. Therefore, he had to go against his conscience to say:

"It’s been three years already, and you, who deliberately avoided meeting us, have now come to me on your own initiative for the child’s sake. I believe the child is his."

"Blood relation is all there is," Su Mu said, looking at him. "Aside from that, in every other respect, he has nothing to do with us."

Qiao Yu wanted to say more, but Su Mu interrupted him:

"It’s getting late, I should be going."

"Su Mu," Qiao Yu called out to stop her. "Don’t you really want to know how he’s doing now? No matter what, he is the child’s father."

Su Mu paused but didn’t turn back, nor did she face around. She simply stood there, and Qiao Yu couldn’t see her expression. It was only after a few seconds of silence that he heard her voice:

"He’s not at risk of losing his life, is he?"

"He won’t die now, but I can’t say for sure about the future. If we continue to be unable to find a cure, he will soon become delirious, his memory will become disordered, and perhaps the next time we see him, he won’t even recognize us anymore."

Upon hearing this, Su Mu turned around and looked at Qiao Yu, smiling faintly:

"Qiao Yu, your words make me feel as if bringing my child to him would mean he’d recognize us."

These words left Qiao Yu at a loss for words, and Su Mu didn’t say anything further, departing on her own.

After Su Mu left, she never once asked about Fu Shinian’s health—did she truly give up hope, or did she believe that he would be fine? But regardless of which it was, Qiao Yu could tell that once everything settled, the path for Fu Shinian to win Su Mu back would be treacherously difficult.

——

When Su Mu returned to Jiangcheng City, she once again saw Xu Yansu, and Lin Ning whispered to her:

"She arrived this morning, refuses to cancel the contract, and won’t accept any compensation. Her only condition is for you to take the photos. If it’s a matter of price, she is willing to pay double."

Su Mu didn’t immediately respond to this issue and just glanced indifferently in the direction of the reception room:

"Where is Qiqi?"

"She’s sleeping in the resting room of your office."

Su Mu looked at her watch on her wrist. "I’ll go up and see Qiqi first."

"And what about Miss Xu..."

"We’ll talk about that after I come back down."

"Okay."

Su Yimo was sleeping soundly in the resting room, but her sleep was disturbed by Su Mu’s arrival. She opened her eyes to see Su Mu, and her bleary eyes immediately lit up. She climbed out of bed and hugged Su Mu’s neck:

"Mu, I’ve missed you so much."

Concerned that she might catch a cold, Su Mu wrapped the child in a blanket while holding her, smiling faintly: "I’ve missed you too. Were you obedient and listened to Sister Lin today?"

"Of course, I even helped Sister Lin entertain guests."

As Su Mu settled her on her lap and began to help her into her clothes, she asked casually:

"Entertain what guests?"

"The auntie we saw yesterday—she came again today and brought me a lot of toys and snacks." Su Mu’s movements hesitated for a moment, but Su Yimo didn’t notice and kept talking: "Mu, are you going to take pictures for her? That auntie said her husband is a very, very handsome uncle. If you’re taking pictures, can you take me with you? I want to go see."

Su Mu smiled softly and adjusted her clothes:

"You already have your brother Shaoyuan."

"But Shaoyuan brother told me that as long as I only like him, I can look at as many handsome guys as I want."

Su Mu: "..."

Wen Shaoyuan is really too magnanimous.

"Mu," Su Yimo whispered, her arms gently wrapped around her neck. "Are you going to take pictures for that handsome uncle?"

Su Mu smiled but didn’t answer, taking Su Yimo downstairs with her.

In the reception area, Xu Yansu stood up immediately upon seeing Su Mu walk in. Her expression showed neither the rage of a canceled contract nor the impatience of waiting or a haughty, overbearing demeanor. She simply smiled at Su Mu:

"Your assistant told me that you might not be back today. It turns out, I’m lucky once again."

Su Mu returned the smile, asking her to sit down and getting straight to the point:

"I believe my assistant has already made the situation clear to you."

"Yes, she said that due to scheduling issues you can’t take on my shoot, and it was her oversight when taking the booking—an error in her work." Xu Yansu looked at her. "Is that right?"

Su Mu returned her gaze:

"Miss Xu, why do you insist on having me take your wedding photos?"
