Chapter 300: Chapter 300 Refusal to Shoot

Su Mu was taken aback and looked towards Xu Yansu:

"It shouldn’t be, this is my first time meeting you."

"Perhaps I recognized you wrongly."

In fact, the so-called communication was akin to no communication at all. Xu Yansu had no understanding of the filming process, and Su Mu was not in the mood to continue saying anything. After all, in her heart, it wasn’t even certain whether she would take this job or not; it was not worth wasting time. Just as Su Mu was pondering how to end this meeting, Xu Yansu received a phone call. Su Mu was about to leave to give her some privacy, but she called out to stop her:

"Miss Su, you don’t need to step away."

Su Mu froze, waiting until she finished the call, but fortunately, she was discussing work the whole time and not the person Su Mu had thought.

After hanging up, Xu Yansu got up from her seat:

"I’m sorry, Miss Su, I can’t continue discussing with you. I have other matters at the research institute, and I need to go back."

Su Mu was more than willing for the meeting to end this way, exchanged a few courteous words, and then stood up to see her off. As she opened the door of the meeting room, Lin Ning was coming downstairs with Su Yimo. Seeing Su Mu, Su Yimo cheerfully shouted ’Mu Mu’, making Xu Yansu turn back:

"Your child?"

Su Mu hadn’t expected Su Yimo to run into Xu Yansu, but since they had met, she saw no need to hide it and answered with a slight smile:

"Yes."

After descending a few steps, Su Yimo noticed Su Mu’s guest opposite her and instantly felt a bit impolite, so she greeted Xu Yansu: "Hello, Auntie."

Xu Yansu had never interacted with children, but upon seeing Su Yimo, she immediately found her adorable. There seemed to be a familiar look in her eyes, which made her feel an instant affection and she reached out to touch her cheek, only to be evaded by Su Yimo.

She hid behind Su Mu, somewhat defensively looking at Xu Yansu, which made Xu Yansu slightly embarrassed:

"I’m sorry, I meant no harm."

Even though Su Mu didn’t wish to continue the pleasantries, she had to maintain appearances. After all, from Xu Yansu’s perspective, she hadn’t done anything wrong, merely unaware of the past between her and Fu Shinian.

"The child is a bit shy; please don’t mind."

"Not at all, I just think she looks a lot like a friend of mine."

This comment unsettled Su Mu, though she did not show it, just smiling slightly: "Let me walk you out."

After Xu Yansu left, Lin Ning clearly felt something was off with Su Mu, and Su Yimo seemed to sense something too, as she kept looking up at Su Mu quietly without speaking.

"Miss Su, are you feeling unwell?"

Su Mu shook her head, "I’m fine."

After calming herself slightly, Su Mu asked Su Yimo to go upstairs to play by herself. Su Yimo did not ask why, but obediently nodded and carefully climbed the stairs. Once Su Yimo had disappeared, Su Mu took Lin Ning to an adjacent drawing room. She handed him the contract:

"Find some pretext tomorrow to cancel this deal. As for the penalty fee, whatever it is, we’ll pay."

Lin Ning, taking the contract, appeared somewhat astonished:

"Miss Su, is there a problem with this contract?"

"No, I just can’t take this job for personal reasons."

"Should I ask the other party if we can switch to a different photographer? They might agree."

Su Mu shook her head. There was no difference between her taking the job or her studio taking it. The final photos would end up in her hands, and she would see them. She wasn’t worried about being emotionally disturbed, nor was it a hurdle she couldn’t overcome. She just felt that the hassle was completely unnecessary when it could easily be avoided.

"No need, we won’t take this job."

Seeing Su Mu’s firm stance, Lin Ning had nothing more to say, although the penalty amount listed in the contract did hurt a bit.

That evening, when Jiang Bei called to chat, Su Mu mentioned her encounter with Xu Yansu. Jiang Bei was stunned for a moment:

"What does this mean? Is Fu Shinian getting married?"

"He must be. Who else would take wedding photos if not for a marriage?"

Su Mu didn’t hear Jiang Bei say anything, but she did hear Ji Nanfeng’s distant voice on the phone: "Shinian is getting married? How come I don’t know about it?"

Su Mu was startled:

"Are you with Ji Nanfeng?"

"He just got back and overheard me," Jiang Bei said nonchalantly. "So, are you planning to take this job?"

"No, I’m planning to pay the penalty."

Although she had made up her mind, the thought of the sum she had to pay made Su Mu reluctant. Despite having earned a significant amount over the past two years, after buying a house and a car, among other expenses, she didn’t have much savings left. Paying this penalty would likely mean tightening her belt for a while.

"Why not take the job?"

Jiang Bei’s question slightly startled Su Mu. She thought Jiang Bei would share her thoughts, but it was completely unexpected:

"Why should I take it?"

"Xu Yansu has always been researching the virus inside Fu Shinian and the old lady’s bodies. Haven’t you always been worried that Qiqi might have the same issue? You could use this opportunity to ask Fu Shinian properly. Besides, why not make money from Fu Shinian? A price of 100,000 per photo, you’re being too modest."

Su Mu: "..."

Jiang Bei’s point wasn’t without merit, but would Fu Shinian really tell her just because she asked? Su Mu thought probably not, especially since he had never acknowledged that Su Yimo was his child. If she raised this question, he might mock or ridicule her.

Before Su Mu could say anything, Jiang Bei sensed something inappropriate in her words:

"Forget it, don’t take the job. There are plenty of ways to find out about Qiqi’s condition. We don’t necessarily have to ask him, making it seem like we’re still hoping he’ll acknowledge Qiqi after three years."

Su Mu smiled faintly:

"I won’t take it."

"That’s good, besides, the money for this might as well come from Xu Yansu herself, Fu Shinian can’t even put up the cash."

Su Mu frowned slightly:

"How could that be?"

What kind of person, what kind of status did Fu Shinian have? If you say Fu Shinian had no money, then probably everybody in the world was poor.

"It’s true. Outwardly, his mother has taken temporary control of Fu Corporation, but in reality, Fu Corporation is not the same as it was three years ago. It’s essentially a shell now, with key personnel, both necessary and unnecessary, having left. I don’t think his mother took over out of necessity but rather deliberately. Even if the company could survive without Fu Shinian, there are still other executives, right? Yet his mother stubbornly does what she thinks is right. A company this big, turned upside down in two years―if it’s not deliberate, then it’s genius."
