Chapter 294: Chapter 294 His News

At the dining table, with Wen Shaoyuan taking care of Su Yimo’s meals, Su Mu was free to relax. However, this exceptionally warm and loving scene seemed to stab Wei Shaoqin’s eyes. Refusing to give up, he brought up an old conversation, asking Su Yimo, who was being fed by Wen Shaoyuan:

"Qiqi, would you like it if Wei Daddy gave you a handsome boy to play with?"

Su Yimo swallowed the mouthful of rice and glanced at Wen Shaoyuan, "Would he be even more handsome than Brother Yuan?"

"Yes, much more handsome than him."

Su Yimo was well-known for her liking of handsome guys—to the point that she couldn’t move when she saw one, and Wei Shaoqin thought he could win the little princess’s favor with this method. But he underestimated Wen Shaoyuan. At this moment, Su Yimo, looking at Wen Shaoyuan, asked in her childlike voice:

"Brother Yuan, would you be angry if I played with other little boys?"

Wen Shaoyuan gently wiped the rice off her mouth corner and smiled faintly:

"Would Qiqi come back then?"

"Of course, I love Brother Yuan the most."

"Then I wouldn’t be angry."

Su Yimo smiled sweetly and gave Wen Shaoyuan a kiss on the cheek, "Brother Yuan is the best."

Wei Shaoqin, looking at this dumbfounding scene, felt that he could still struggle a bit:

"Qiqi, maybe the handsome boy that Wei Daddy gives you will treat you even better than Brother Yuan."

After a slight struggle, Su Yimo firmed up her decision:

"Still, I don’t want it. Su Mu says people should be content. Having Brother Yuan as a handsome guy is enough for me."

Wei Shaoqin was in despair.

After dinner, Wei Shaoqin, not holding a grudge, accompanied the two children to play. Jiang Bei was pregnant, so naturally, Su Mu wouldn’t let her clean up, and besides, she wasn’t someone who did this kind of chore. Therefore, the hustle in the kitchen was left to Wen Han and Su Mu.

Wen Han was washing dishes, and after Su Mu had tidied up the dining table, she joined him, pulling out a dish-drying towel to wipe the clean dishes beside him. For the past two years, they had often done this together, working in silent harmony. Sometimes they wouldn’t speak a word till the end, yet it never felt awkward.

But today, Wen Han had something to say to Su Mu:

"I heard something recently, but after thinking it over, I still believe I should tell you."

Su Mu paused for a moment in her dish-wiping, then resumed:

"I don’t want to hear it."

"You don’t want to hear it even before I say it?"

"I can guess."

Other than affairs concerning Fu Shinian, there was no other matter that would make Wen Han hesitate as he was now.

"But I still want to say it." Without giving Su Mu a chance to reject, Wen Han continued, "Fu Shinian has been out of public sight for two years now. Aren’t you curious?"

Su Mu smiled faintly:

"Why should I be curious about his news?"

"I didn’t deliberately inquire about his news; it was just that I overheard it when I accompanied my mother to a medical examination recently. Fu Shinian has contracted a strange illness, similar to the old lady’s symptoms back then—intermittent unconsciousness. That’s the reason he withdrew from Fu Corporation and let his mother take over the company."

Su Mu showed no reaction, her hands kept moving without hesitation, only giving Wen Han a faint glance after he fell silent:

"Are you done?"

Wen Han couldn’t help but laugh, nodding his head:

"Yes, I’ve finished speaking."

"Since you’re done, hurry up and wash those dishes to the side. I want to go out and play with Qiqi."

Wen Han looked at Su Mu, not entirely certain if her outward composure was genuine. He wanted to discern the truth, but ultimately, he couldn’t spot any flaws. He sighed, thinking of resuming work when Su Mu softly spoke:

"Don’t probe any further. I truly don’t care anymore. The moment I signed the divorce papers, I severed all ties with him. Therefore, whether he is doing well or not is his own concern, and all I need to do is live my life well—that’s enough."

"But he is Qiqi’s father, after all." Wen Han said reluctantly, but still made the point, "Qiqi is sensible and has never asked you about her dad, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t curious. Perhaps when she grows up, she might seek out the answers herself, and you won’t be able to stop her."

"He isn’t Qiqi’s father!" Su Mu suddenly raised her voice, chillingly.

Three years had gone by. She thought she had let go, but now the mention of it still stirred faint anger. Su Mu took a moment to calm herself down and softly apologized, "Sorry, I wasn’t aiming at you."

"I know."

Wen Han remained silent for a few seconds, then ended the conversation, turning the tap back on. As the water flowed, his voice softly carried over, saying:

"Do you plan to keep living like this? Alone?"

Su Mu was no fool; she understood what Wen Han’s words implied. Yet, she had no answer to give him:

"I’m not alone. I have Qiqi and friends like you—that’s more than enough. It’s a blessing from heaven, and I can’t be greedy anymore. Otherwise, the heavens would punish me."

Wen Han smiled faintly, then said no more.

At nine in the evening, Su Yimo started to feel sleepy, unable to stop yawning. Wei Shaoqin, though reluctant to leave, couldn’t bear to interrupt the little princess’s bedtime, so he stood up to leave. Wen Han rose as well, but Wen Shaoyuan was still sitting by Su Yimo’s side, making no move to leave. He looked up at Wen Han:

"Dad, I want to stay and keep Qiqi company. Can I?"

Wen Han turned to look at Su Mu. She nodded slightly, "I’ll take good care of her. Don’t worry."

Wen Han gave Wen Shaoyuan some instructions before leaving with Wei Shaoqin. Not long after they departed, Su Yimo and Wen Shaoyuan fell asleep. Su Mu quietly left their room, only to hear Jiang Bei on the phone—it seemed like she was speaking with Ji Nanfeng.

After hanging up the phone, before Jiang Bei could say anything, Su Mu initiated the conversation:

"He’s back?"

"Yes, he’s coming to pick me up soon. I might not be able to keep you company," Jiang Bei responded.

"That’s okay." Su Mu walked over and sat beside her, "After you go back, you need to tell Ji Nanfeng about your pregnancy, so he can take proper care of you."

Jiang Bei smiled lightly:

"Alright."

The two chatted for a while, but Su Mu was clearly distracted. Jiang Bei watched her quietly for a few seconds before softly asking:

"Did Wen Han say something to you?"

Su Mu was taken aback, intending to deny it, but under Jiang Bei’s gaze, she felt lying would be a poor choice and nodded slightly:

"Yes."

"About Fu Shinian’s illness?"

"You know?"

"I do," Jiang Bei admitted straightforwardly. "It’s been almost two years. I was the one who took over when he first collapsed. It’s the same condition as the elderly lady."

"Then he..."

"You don’t need to worry. He has the best medical team by his side, and the core member of the team is his girlfriend. Do you think she’d let anything happen to her boyfriend?"
