Chapter 292: Could There Be Someone Else?
Chapter 292: Chapter 292: Could There Be Someone Else?
After hanging up the phone with Jiang Bei, Su Mu quickly freshened up and returned directly to Su Yimo’s side. She had just lain down when Su Yimo gently turned over and hugged Su Mu’s neck. Perhaps Su Mu had disturbed her sleep, or maybe it was just sleep talk, but Su Yimo gently started speaking by Su Mu’s ear:
"Mu, you’ve worked hard..."
Glancing at her, Su Mu realized she had fallen soundly asleep again. She gently kissed her forehead, her heart filling with warmth.
Two days later, Su Mu finished all her work in Provence. With half a month of downtime ahead, she arranged for her crew to return to China first. She wanted to stay and explore the surrounding small towns with Su Yimo. However, plans do not always unfold as expected, and on the fourth day, Su Mu received a call from her assistant, Lin Ning:
"Sister Su, there’s a big job. Are you interested?"
At that time, Su Mu was walking with Su Yimo on Mirabeau Avenue in Aix, attracting quite a few glances with their matching outfits. Su Mu was periodically taking photos of Su Yimo, enjoying the precious parent-child time when Lin Ning’s call came in.
Upon hearing this, Su Mu didn’t show much emotion and simply asked,
"What kind of big job?"
"A set of engagement photos. The client is offering 100,000 per photo."
Su Mu looked down at Su Yimo, who was blowing bubbles beside her. The sunlight made the bubbles shimmer in iridescent colors, and she smiled slightly:
"Who is the client? Where is the shoot? Are there any special requirements?"
"The bride is a Chinese national with Italian citizenship, and the groom is from Shen City. They hope the shooting locations can be in Italy and Shen City. There are no special requirements other than needing beautiful photos."
"100,000 without special requirements? They must be quite wealthy, huh?"
Lin Ning wasn’t surprised, knowing Su Mu’s high reputation in the fashion industry and her close relationships with multiple magazines. The client was likely worried about Su Mu’s availability and thus decided to tempt her with a high fee, as there were plenty of rich people these days. But Su Mo wasn’t short on money, so Lin Ning called to get her opinion:
"So, what do you think, Sister Su?"
"Ask the client about the dates for the shoot. If it doesn’t affect my subsequent work, then you decide."
"Alright, I got it, Sister Su."
After hanging up the phone, Su Mu took a few more photos of Su Yimo before they slowly headed back.
Later, Su Mu did not receive another call from Lin Ning and did not dwell on it. To her, making money was far less important than spending time with Su Yimo. Once Su Yimo lost interest in playing in Aix, Su Mu decided it was time to return to China, as she was not entirely comfortable leaving Jiang Bei.
After nearly 12 hours of long-haul flight, they arrived in Shen City at 6:30 a.m. Wei Shaoqin, out of concern that Su Yimo might be sleeping, had arranged for VIP access at the airport, allowing the car to pull directly up to the tarmac.
Wei Shaoqin was right; Su Yimo was indeed asleep. Su Mu was the last one to leave the plane, and as soon as she stepped out of the cabin door, she saw Wei Shaoqin on the tarmac. Before she could even greet him, Wei Shaoqin quickly walked up, carefully taking Su Yimo from her arms, and keeping his voice very low to avoid waking her:
"How long has she been asleep?"
Looking at the time, Su Mu replied, "She’s about to wake up."
She had fallen asleep soon after boarding and hadn’t woken since.
Wei Shaoqin resisted the urge to wake Su Yimo and made as if to kiss her little face, but was stopped by Su Mu:
"You’ll wake her."
"I won’t." Wei Shaoqin said with a grin, "Before coming, I especially shaved three times; just before getting off the plane, I spat out a chewing gum. No stubble, no bad breath."
Su Mu smiled faintly and did not pay any more attention to Wei Shaoqin. Finally, Wei Shaoqin stole a kiss on the little princess’s face and then satisfiedly walked towards the car.
After getting into the car, Wei Shaoqin carefully handed Su Yimo back to Su Mu’s arms and couldn’t resist touching her chubby little face:
"It’s been less than half a month since we last met, but I truly miss her even in my dreams. Next time you go out, just bring Qiqi directly to me; I promise to take care of her crystal clear."
Su Mu smiled slightly:
"I can’t bear to."
Wei Shaoqin laughed and lightly cursed her for being stingy before gently closing the car door and walking around to the driver’s seat:
"How long will you stay in Shen City?"
Su Mu had not acquired any property in Shen City. In the first year of the past three years, she mostly stayed in Jingcheng with Li Yue. After Su Yimo was born, she set up her own studio in Jiangcheng City and bought a house there. This move was mildly criticized by Jiang Bei and Wei Shaoqin, who thought Su Mu’s actions were akin to abandoning them.
Fortunately, when Su Mu was not busy, she would always bring Su Yimo to Shen City to wander around and gather with them. Gradually, they understood Su Mu; she was not avoiding them but did not want to add unnecessary trouble to herself.
This world is neither too big nor too small; if you really run into it, the one troubled is still one’s own feelings.
During her time in Shen City, she would stay in Jiang Bei’s apartment. This time she flew directly from France to Shen City mainly for Jiang Bei; she ultimately could not rest easy without seeing Jiang Bei’s condition herself.
"I should stay for a week."
Wei Shaoqin smiled, "Then I’ll cancel all my engagements for the next week; except for work hours, I’ll just play with Qiqi."
Since Su Yimo was born, Wei Shaoqin had truly treated this child as his own, a fondness that reached to his very bones. Su Mu even worried for a time that Wei Shaoqin would spoil Su Yimo, but fortunately, all his pampering and love had a limit.
When the car stopped below Jiang Bei’s apartment building, Su Yimo just opened her groggy eyes. She looked out the window at the somewhat unfamiliar yet familiar surroundings for a few seconds, but upon seeing Wei Shaoqin in the driver’s seat, she smiled sweetly again, seeming to recover all her spirits:
"Daddy Wei."
At that moment, Wei Shaoqin felt as if his heart was melted by Su Yimo’s address to him.
By the time they returned to the apartment, Su Yimo had completely regained her spirits, pulling Wei Shaoqin along with endless things to say.
Wei Shaoqin patiently held Su Yimo in his arms, listening like a curious elementary student to her recount of the journey’s sights and sounds. Although Su Yimo had an extremely high linguistic talent, logically she was still a child, and many things she said were not very clear, but Wei Shaoqin listened very seriously, occasionally chiming in with his own questions and exclamations while Su Mu, packing up luggage on the side, suddenly had a very absurd thought.
If none of the accidents had happened initially, would the person accompanying Su Yimo now be someone else?
