Chapter 287: Chapter 287: We Should All Be Well

Rong Shen left, Jiang Bei’s first words to Su Mu were an apology:

"I’m sorry, you’re really not in a state to be worrying about my issues, I never intended for you to see me like this, but that’s the reality."

Su Mu sat a little closer to Jiang Bei:

"Are you really with him?"

"In this situation, does it really make a difference whether we are together or not? Perhaps it does, at least it makes the fact that we’ve slept together seem more justified."

"Xiaobei..." Su Mu had never heard her speak so disheartenedly, he suddenly felt very sorry for her; she had always been so confident, resentful of evil, and decisive. Yet, she changed entirely in front of Rong Shen, almost to the point where Su Mu could hardly recognize her.

"I’m fine," Jiang Bei reassured her. "Don’t worry about me anymore. I’m leaving tomorrow and yet you have had such a big incident, I’m really worried about you. Should I stay with you a little longer, and let my parents handle the matter of my sabbatical?"

"No need, you hate using your family’s connections to advance yourself, don’t do things you dislike for my sake. If you really stayed for me, I would feel uneasy."

Jiang Bei leaned in and hugged her shoulders:

"Su Mu, you have to be okay, live well, look good, stay healthy, be happy, everything has to be all right, even if things were already fine, we all need to be better. That way, anyone who has taken advantage of you, or held you back these past years will see clearly that leaving him, your life has skyrocketed!"

"Okay." Su Mu smiled faintly: "I will be fine, and so will you."

"Of course, I will," Jiang Bei sipped her drink lightly. "Rong Shen’s matter does affect me, but not much, after all, it’s just a physical relationship. He’s handsome, has a great body, and his stamina is undeniable. I’m at this age, did you really think I don’t have physical needs? Finding someone like Rong Shen, I cashed in."

Though she spoke lightly, it would take Su Mu’s trust in her words to believe them; if she really believed what Jiang Bei was saying, maybe they couldn’t have been close friends for so many years.

The tacit understanding between them was that even if one said nothing, both knew everything.

Su Mu believed that if she were in a normal state, Jiang Bei would also be willing to share her troubles, but sadly, continuous issues around her didn’t allow Jiang Bei to have peace of mind. Perhaps she should recover faster, not for anything else, just to be able to lend a shoulder when these people who cared about her needed one.

The two chatted for a while longer, then Jiang Bei went to the kitchen to prepare some food for Su Mu. She really wasn’t hungry, but Jiang Bei wouldn’t allow her to be so willful:

"I don’t mind if you don’t eat, but you can’t starve my goddaughter, or else I won’t let it slide."

Su Mu sat in the dining area, watching Jiang Bei busy in the kitchen:

"Why do both you and Wei Shaoqin think it’s going to be a daughter?"

"Just a feeling, I always thought having a daughter like you, cute and sensible, would be fun."

Jiang Bei brought the hot food to the table, and Su Mu looked slightly surprised:

"Aren’t you terrible at cooking?"

"I didn’t make it."

Su Mu wasn’t surprised: "Wen Han?"

"Rong Shen."

Su Mu’s expression showed her inexpressible surprise and astonishment, and seeing this, Jiang Bei smiled slightly, sitting across from her:

"I had the same expression the first time I saw him enter the kitchen, but he’s actually not a casual cook, it’s delicious, try some."

Su Mu was somewhat reluctant, feeling as though the food might be poisoned, which made Jiang Bei laugh uncontrollably:

"Don’t worry, I’ve eaten it already, it’s fine."

Su Mu still couldn’t eat, staring blankly at Jiang Bei:

"Xiaobei, you wouldn’t have fallen for Rong Shen, would you?"

Jiang Bei looked at Su Mu as if she were a monster:

"Do you think I’m that unreasonable? There are plenty of men who can cook in today’s society, but I grew up watching my dad cook for my mom. Do you think just because Rong Shen made me a couple of meals, he could steal my heart? I’m not a three-year-old child."

"Of course you aren’t, but I just feel that if you two continue this way, there will inevitably be trouble sooner or later."

"There won’t be any,"

If there were to be trouble, it wouldn’t be an emotional earthquake, but rather a life-or-death decision.

The next day, Jiang Bei left for the airport, not allowing Su Mu to see her off. Su Mu didn’t insist, knowing that Rong Shen would go; perhaps she just didn’t want to see how they behaved together, making her worry even more.

After Jiang Bei’s departure, the entire apartment felt completely empty. She thought she would have all sorts of wild thoughts, but surprisingly, she didn’t think of anything. She lived as usual, as if nothing had happened, sometimes underestimating her own ability to accept change and surprises.

Wei Shaoqin came around noon, carrying various ingredients. Seeing Su Mu open the door, he flashed a big smile:

"What would you like to eat? I’ll cook it for you."

Su Mu looked at him skeptically:

"Can you?"

"I can’t, but I did go home yesterday and learned from our chef all day and night."

These words slightly stunned Su Mu, she knew Wei Shaoqin cared about her, but to this extent, it still caught her off-guard:

"Why would you learn to do this?"

"Of course to cook for you. What else did you think I was learning for fun?" Wei Shaoqin walked towards the kitchen, saying, "You’re pregnant now, you can’t eat takeout, nor should you go into the kitchen and smell the greasy fumes. I think you also wouldn’t want to hire a housekeeper at this time, so naturally, as your friend, I should step up now."

"You don’t have to do this."

While taking out the ingredients, Wei Shaoqin glanced at Su Mu:

"Really? Moved already? I’m not doing this for you, I’m doing it for my goddaughter."

Who it was really for, Su Mu knew very well. Wei Shaoqin said this merely to spare her any sense of guilt.

Stepping over to help him sort out the ingredients, she said lightly:

"I haven’t decided yet whether to let my daughter acknowledge you as her godfather."

"That would be too cruel," Wei Shaoqin was dissatisfied. "I don’t know if I’ll ever get married in my life, let alone have children. Can’t you let me experience being a father? I promise to give my best to her."

At his words, Su Mu smiled faintly:

"We’ll see how you do; if my daughter likes you, I won’t be able to help it."

"As long as you agree, my daughter definitely will."
