Chapter 272: Children Speak Their Minds
Chapter 272: Chapter 272: Children Speak Their Minds
Wen Han heard this and did not say much, simply smiling faintly:
"You don’t need to worry. The police are still investigating, and they should have some results soon. They might come to the hospital tomorrow to ask you about the situation. Just tell them the truth, and don’t worry about anything else."
Su Mu nodded slightly:
"Okay."
The police arrived much earlier than Wen Han had anticipated, and while Wen Han had not yet left, they knocked on the door of the hospital room. Wen Han went to open the door, and the officer, seeing Wen Han, greeted her politely:
"Is Mrs. Fu awake? If it’s inconvenient, we can come back tomorrow."
"No need; she’s awake." Wen Han stepped aside to clear the doorway: "Come in."
Su Mu told the police everything she knew, but most of the questions were about things she did not know herself. She was conscious for only a short part of the entire kidnapping process and even how she was rescued was unclear to her.
Half an hour later, after the police had finished taking notes, they spoke a few comforting words to Su Mu and left. However, Su Mu was still unsure. She looked at Wen Han, who had escorted the police out and returned to the room:
"Is Han Jie really dead?"
"Yes." Wen Han looked at her: "Shot in the forehead, killed instantly."
Han Jie was dead, Han Lu was on the run; perhaps the siblings were just fighting over the spoils. Yet the police had not arrived when Han Jie died, and Fu Shinian was also in the hospital accompanying his grandmother. Regarding the loot, they probably hadn’t seen it yet.
So why did Han Jie die for no apparent reason?
Su Mu thought it over and over but couldn’t come up with an answer. Seeing her troubled expression, Wen Han said:
"You shouldn’t think too much about it now. Let the police handle these troublesome matters. What’s most important for you now is to rest well."
"Right." Wen Han looked at Su Mu: "Why haven’t I seen Fu Shinian?"
Upon hearing this, Su Mu paused for a moment but soon returned to normal, smiling faintly:
"His grandmother is ill; he’s with her."
"So he didn’t come to rescue you because of his grandmother, did he?"
Su Mu lowered her eyes, chuckling softly: "He did nothing wrong."
"Why did he do nothing wrong?" Wen Shaoyuan, who had been quietly listening to their conversation and hadn’t intended to interrupt, could not help himself at this point: "The old lady is ill; Uncle Fu should be with her, but if Sister Su is also in danger, of course he should have rescued Sister Su."
Su Mu looked at Wen Shaoyuan, and couldn’t help but reach out to stroke his hair:
"Why would you say that?"
"Because being sick is something only a doctor can help with; Uncle Fu isn’t a doctor. Staying by her side doesn’t make much of a difference. Instead, when Sister Su was taken by the bad guys, Uncle Fu could really help."
The child’s words, though blunt, were painfully true.
Wen Shaoyuan’s point wasn’t wrong, but Fu Shinian’s choice wasn’t wrong either.
The only issue was that Su Mu was just one of the choices as well.
Wen Han hadn’t expected Wen Shaoyuan to say such things and subconsciously looked at Su Mu’s expression. Seeing her dazed look, he wanted to make amends but was too late, so he just tugged at Wen Shaoyuan’s hand and had him come back to his side.
Wen Shaoyuan still seemed to want to say something, but sensing something in Wen Han’s gaze, he pursed his lips and obediently stood aside, staying silent.
After leaving Su Mu’s hospital room, Wen Han stood quietly in the hallway for a few seconds, then took a step and made a phone call asking the driver to take Wen Shaoyuan back to the car first, while he himself took the elevator to the top floor.
He knew that the hospital’s top floor was reserved for the Fu family, and he had been curious why Su Mu, despite her injuries, was not arranged to be on the top floor. Lacking answers, he had to go up himself to look. But just as he stepped out of the elevator, he came face to face with two men in black.
Seeing the unexpected guests on the top floor, the men in black approached to intercept:
"This is a private area. Please leave."
Wen Han, neither humble nor arrogant:
"I came to visit the hospital, to see the elderly lady."
"Sorry, we were not notified that anyone would be coming today, please leave."
Wen Han had no intention of using force, but he also showed no intention of leaving. Just as he was about to say a lie, he saw Qiao Yu coming out from a nearby hospital room. Seeing Wen Han there, he slightly frowned, but still stepped forward:
"How come you are here?"
"I heard the elderly lady was sick and hospitalized, so I came to visit."
"There’s nothing serious now, she just hasn’t woken up yet. She now needs peace and quiet for recovery," Qiao Yu said, looking at him, "I hope you can understand."
"Of course."
Wen Han clearly understood what Qiao Yu meant—it wasn’t suitable for him to visit the elderly lady. Understanding was one thing, doing was another:
"My parents are really worried, so they asked me to come. I need to see her for myself to be reassured. If it’s not convenient to go into the room, just seeing her from outside the door will suffice. Please, Doctor Qiao, do not block my sincere intentions."
Qiao Yu hesitated for a moment, but eventually nodded in agreement:
"I’ll take you there."
Wen Han thought the room where the elderly lady was located would be the one Qiao Yu had just come out of, but instead, Qiao Yu led him in the completely opposite direction. Following behind Qiao Yu, he couldn’t help but ask:
"I thought the elderly lady was in the room you just came out of."
Qiao Yu paused, his expression somewhat unnatural as he explained:
"No, I was just resting in there."
"I see."
Standing outside the elderly lady’s hospital room, Wen Han saw her lying quietly on the hospital bed. If he had not known the reason, he would have thought she was merely sleeping. Two caregivers were carefully attending her beside the bed, but Fu Shinian, who should have been there, was not in sight.
"Mr. Fu isn’t here?"
Qiao Yu smiled lightly:
"He had been accompanying her for two days. Even with great filial piety, the body has its limits. I advised him to rest, and he just fell asleep not long ago."
Wen Han nodded:
"Is he in the room you came out of just now?"
This time, Qiao Yu did not respond immediately. He looked at Wen Han for a few seconds, then slowly spoke:
"Is there a problem?"
"Nothing major. I just think it’s somewhat inappropriate for Su Mu to be alone in the hospital room now."
"Su Mu is Shinian’s wife; he would not let her be treated unfairly."
Wen Han nodded slightly, "I was being overly concerned. Thank you, Doctor Qiao. I’ll go now, and I hope the elderly lady recovers soon."
"Thank you."
After seeing Wen Han off, Qiao Yu quietly sighed with relief. He could tell Wen Han was skeptical, but what could skepticism do?
Glancing once more at the room he had left before, Qiao Yu sighed and walked back. Ji Nanfeng was surprised by Qiao Yu’s return. "Why have you come back?"
"I ran into Wen Han just now when I went out."
Ji Nanfeng was shocked:
"He came to the top floor?"
"Yes, but he didn’t discover anything. He just went to see the elderly lady and asked about Shinian."
