Chapter 267: Chapter 267 Missing
On the first day after the New Year, Fu Shinian was so busy with meetings at the company that he didn’t even have time for a sip of water. During the breaks, he had thought of calling Su Mu, but remembering how exhausted she was from his antics the night before and that she was likely catching up on sleep that morning, he suppressed the longing in his heart so as not to disturb her rest.
Around noon, after a morning of non-stop work, Fu Shinian finally had a moment to catch his breath. Song Yi walked out of the meeting room with him and asked:
"Would you like to go out for lunch, or should I order something for you?"
While dialing on his cell phone, Fu Shinian replied, "Order in."
"Understood."
When Fu Shinian entered his office, the phone at the old residence had also been answered. He thought about it and decided to call the landline there first, to avoid potentially waking Su Mu if she was still asleep. He found it unlikely that she would be, but he still feared disturbing her rest.
Auntie Wang picked up the phone:
"Mr. Fu, will you be coming home for lunch?"
"No, I have meetings in the afternoon." Fu Shinian asked indifferently, "What about Su Mu? Is she awake?"
"Madam? Madam left the house after you did and hasn’t come back yet."
Fu Shinian frowned slightly:
"Left? Where did she go?"
"She said she was going to the bank when she left."
It was the sixth day of the new year. It seemed reasonable for her to visit the bank to check the details of her father’s account, but to not come back home all morning? Fu Shinian hung up and dialed Su Mu’s number, only to be met with the unexpected sound of a switched-off phone.
There was no reason for worry—it could just be a dead battery, a broken phone, or even the possibility of theft. However, Fu Shinian found himself unable to calm down. He called back to the old residence to inquire about the driver’s phone number, who had gone out with Su Mu. The call connected, but no one answered.
Fu Shinian’s heart was in complete disarray.
No matter how many accidents there might be, it was improbable for two people who left together to be unreachable at the same time. Such coincidences did not exist.
When Song Yi entered, he saw the state of disarray Fu Shinian was in. Before he could voice his concern, Fu Shinian gave an order:
"Check Su Mu’s location, as fast as possible."
"Understood."
Song Yi did not dare delay. He put the lunchbox on Fu Shinian’s desk and quickly walked out. A few minutes later, Song Yi came back and said directly:
"Madam’s current location is at the bank."
Fu Shinian stayed silent, standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, motionless. It was possible—Su Mu could be waiting in the bank for some news, and that might take some time. But why would her phone be off at the bank? And why were the driver’s calls also unanswered?
Although Song Yi didn’t know what had happened, he could tell from Fu Shinian’s demeanor that it was serious:
"Shall I go to the bank to check?"
Fu Shinian didn’t answer but asked him another question:
"Has Song Zhengxian returned to the country?"
As soon as he asked this, Song Yi immediately understood what Fu Shinian was thinking. A sudden tension gripped him, but after careful thought, he found it unlikely:
"No, there’s been no news from those monitoring him about his return to the country."
"Check it." Fu Shinian’s voice was chilling to the core: "If I’m not mistaken, Song Zhengxian has already returned and is currently in Shen City."
Song Yi was shocked:
"You’re worried about..."
"Su Mu and the driver who accompanied her out can’t be reached, this isn’t normal."
Song Yi responded, turned around to check, and in the vast office, only Fu Shinian was left. He picked up his phone to call Ji Nanfeng when it suddenly rang. Unexpectedly, it was Wen Han. Although he didn’t want to answer, he thought that Wen Han wouldn’t call him without reason, so he pressed the answer button:
"Commander Wen."
"Mr. Fu, do you have time to talk?"
"I’m afraid I don’t have the time," said Fu Shinian, looking at the glittering river beneath his feet. "I can’t reach Su Mu right now, I’m busy."
Wen Han was clearly anxious on the other end of the phone:
"What do you mean you can’t reach her? Have you argued again? I saw her just this morning."
"You saw Su Mu?" Fu Shinian couldn’t help but grow tense. "When?"
"Around 10 o’clock, couldn’t have been past half past, at the bank, where she was conducting business."
"When did Su Mu leave?"
"She must have left shortly after 10:30. I took her to the office, it only took a few minutes." Wen Han seemed to realize the severity of the situation. "When did you lose contact? Could her phone just be dead?"
Fu Shinian: "The driver can’t be reached at the same time. How likely do you think such a coincidence is, Commander Wen?"
Fu Shinian fell silent for a few seconds, then shared his suspicion with Wen Han. He hadn’t wanted to involve him originally, but Wen Han had much easier access to the police than him. If anything dangerous or uncontrollable happened, Wen Han would be able to help him as much as possible.
Just a few seconds after hanging up with Wen Han, Song Yi walked back in. He hesitated for a few seconds, looking at Fu Shinian, seemingly unsure if he should speak. But Fu Shinian couldn’t wait:
"Speak."
"I just checked the surveillance at the entrance of the bank," he said, and handed over the iPad he was holding to Fu Shinian.
Fu Shinian took it and immediately hit the play button. In the next second, he clearly saw someone casually walking by the side of a car, taking advantage of the driver’s lack of attention while on his phone, and quickly covered the driver’s mouth and nose with a handkerchief. The driver didn’t even have time to struggle before passing out. The person then moved the driver to the passenger seat, sat down in the driver’s seat, and casually adjusted their hat brim.
If Fu Shinian was not mistaken, this person was a woman, although she had changed her makeup, he still recognized her; her name was Han Lu.
If Han Lu had already returned to the country, then Song Zhengxian must have returned as well.
True enough, in less than half an hour, someone carrying another person came out. Although both were dressed in work clothes, they unmistakably got into the car Su Mu had been in, meaning Song Zhengxian had taken Su Mu.
Was she injured, or had she just been drugged by Song Zhengxian in the same way Han Lu had been?
Fu Shinian’s heart was in turmoil.
It was now half past twelve, and two hours had passed since Su Mu’s disappearance. Today was the last day for Song Zhengxian’s bid payment, something Fu Shinian should have foreseen, yet he had ultimately overlooked it.
It wouldn’t take long; Song Zhengxian would definitely contact him, Fu Shinian was certain of this.
He wanted nothing more than money, and he would definitely transfer the money to the other party’s account before midnight tonight. Fu Shinian had anticipated his desperation, but he hadn’t expected him to target Su Mu.
Fu Shinian handed the iPad to Song Yi:
"Go prepare 50 million in cash."
Song Yi was startled: "Mr. Fu, the other party hasn’t stated a ransom yet."
Just because they haven’t mentioned it now, doesn’t mean they won’t. He didn’t want to wait for Song Zhengxian to mention a ransom and then waste time preparing it; he didn’t want to wait, not even a minute.
