Chapter 25: Chapter 25 He is the Devil

Wei Shaoqin reacted, but had some trouble believing it:

"Su Mu?"

Fu Shinian asked, "Where is she now?"

Wei Shaoqin suddenly found the situation more interesting than he had imagined. On his end of the phone that Fu Shinian couldn’t see, he slyly curled the corner of his lips, "What is Mr. Fu’s relationship with Su Mu?"

"An old friend’s daughter."

"Since she has such a relationship with Mr. Fu, naturally, I won’t treat Su Mu unfairly. You can rest assured, Mr. Fu."

At that moment, Fu Shinian had already arrived at his car, and the driver had opened the door to the backseat for him, but upon hearing Wei Shaoqin’s words, he halted his steps. The driver looked up for a moment, then immediately lowered his head, having served Mr. Fu for almost 6 years and never before seeing him with such a grim expression.

A few seconds later, Fu Shinian laughed coldly:

"So, Junior President Wei means to say, you were with Su Mu last night, all night long?"

"We’re all young people, Mr. Fu should understand."

"And now? Have you finished, Junior President Wei? I should send someone to pick her up."

Wei Shaoqin smiled faintly, "Of course, but unfortunately, Su Mu left before dawn, it seemed she heard the news of her mother’s operation and rushed to the hospital."

Fu Shinian hung up the phone and stepped into the car:

"To the hospital."

...

After Su Mu had finished the breakfast brought by Jiang Bei, barely putting away the tableware, the door of the hospital room was forcibly pushed open. Startled, she instinctively looked up, and upon meeting Fu Shinian’s piercing gaze, she shrank back, standing up uneasily with no idea where to put her hands:

"Shi, Shinian..."

Fu Shinian stood at the doorway, looking at her coldly, his voice seeming to have been frozen several feet deep:

"Do you come out, or shall I come in?"

Su Mu knew what he wanted to talk about, and also knew that this matter couldn’t be delayed, so she said: "I’ll go out with you."

Fu Shinian was the first to leave the hospital room. Su Mu glanced back at her mother, making sure all her vital signs were normal, before heading towards the door.

There was no sight of Fu Shinian in the corridor, and the elevator was idle, not having moved. Only the door to the adjacent stairwell was open a crack. Su Mu took a deep breath and walked over.

Fu Shinian was smoking, leaning against the railing with his head bowed, inhaling deeply from one cigarette to the next as if to vent something. Su Mu had never seen him smoke so frantically and, concerned it was harmful to his health, she said:

"Don’t smoke like that, it’s bad for your health."

Upon hearing this, Fu Shinian stopped, slowly lifting his head to look at Su Mu with an indescribable gaze that made her first instinct to flee, as far as possible. But she didn’t dare to, knowing no matter where she ran, she’d ultimately be caught and brought back by him.

The air was tense for a moment, no one speaking, no one moving, as if lying in wait for the next moment’s explosion.

Finally, Fu Shinian moved. He threw the burnt-out cigarette butt on the ground and stamped on it fiercely, then started walking towards Su Mu, step by step, each one seeming to tread heavily on her heart. Just as she could no longer bear the atmosphere and opened her mouth to explain, Fu Shinian walked past her, closed the door behind him and turned the lock.

Su Mu’s heart sank suddenly.

She turned around in panic to look at Fu Shinian, instinctively stepping back, but in the next second, he grabbed her harshly and threw her against the wall. Unable to brace herself, she hit the wall with both her back and the back of her head, a pain that struck to the bone. Yet even with such physical pain, the look in the eyes of the man in front of her was even more terrifying.

He sized her up:

"A CHANEL suit from the new collection, if I remember correctly, this wasn’t what you were wearing yesterday."

"This is Jiang Bei’s clothing, I borrowed it," Su Mu tried to calm herself down, "Shinian, listen to my explanation..."

"Oh? Jiang Bei’s? What about it? After serving Wei Shaoqin for a night, he didn’t even deign to buy you a new set of clothes?"

Su Mu’s eyes widened immediately; she had not expected Fu Shinian to already know about Wei Shaoqin, nor did she expect him to have his own suspicions before she had a chance to explain:

"No, it’s not what you think, nothing happened between me and Wei Shaoqin."

Su Mu’s words didn’t change Fu Shinian’s expression at all; it was clear he didn’t believe her.

"You didn’t get into his car yesterday? Or are you saying you didn’t even meet Wei Shaoqin? Su Mu, haven’t I told you not to flaunt yourself outside, not to seduce men, not to get into other people’s beds? If you dare, don’t ever think about entering the Fu family’s gate again. Do you think I’m joking, or did you not take my words to heart at all?"

"No, no, no..." Su Mu shook her head in denial, her eyes turning red with urgency, "I didn’t do anything to betray you. I admit, I admit that I was indeed taken away by Wei Shaoqin yesterday, and he did try to have relations with me, took my phone, and locked me in the farm, but he didn’t succeed, and I would never have let him succeed."

As Su Mu spoke, she seemed to remember something, and extended her injured wrist toward Fu Shinian:

"Look, I did this to myself, just so he wouldn’t touch me..."

Fu Shinian looked at the wrist that, although wrapped in gauze, still oozed blood, and narrowed his eyes slightly. Although he hadn’t witnessed what exactly happened last night, the wound on Su Mu’s wrist wasn’t fake—she wouldn’t have hurt herself just to make him believe.

"I was locked in the farm, unable to escape or make calls. The only way I could protect myself was like this. He probably didn’t expect me to do such a thing and ended up taking me to the hospital. I didn’t wake up until this morning. I really didn’t have any relations with him."

"Really?" Fu Shinian responded coldly, "I know very well what kind of person Wei Shaoqin is. Do you think a small cut would make him let you go? Do you take me for a fool?"

"You’re right, what you suspect really happened," Su Mu explained eagerly, "After Wei Shaoqin saw me hurt myself, he indeed didn’t plan to let me go. At that moment, I regretted not injuring myself more severely. If I had, he wouldn’t have continued to have thoughts of doing anything to me. So, later, I made the wound deeper using my own method."

Su Mu then unwrapped the gauze from her wrist and brought the wound closer for him to see clearly.

Fu Shinian didn’t want to look, but even if he didn’t want to, his peripheral vision inevitably caught sight of the shocking wound.

Wrist-slitting wounds are usually straight, but the one on Su Mu’s wrist was anything but aesthetically neat; it was jagged and twisted, with flesh turned outwards and scratch marks around it. It was evident what she meant by ’her own method’—this woman was harsher on herself than he had imagined.

Just to prevent Wei Shaoqin from touching her, right?

Maybe, since even a fool could see that between him and Wei Shaoqin, it was the former who had more money. If she wanted more, of course, she would unhesitatingly abandon Wei Shaoqin.

Su Mu had said all she could, but from the look in Fu Shinian’s eyes, she knew he still didn’t believe her, and she suddenly felt overwhelmed with despair.

What else could she do to prove her innocence? Call Wei Shaoqin to vouch for her? That kind of person would only add fuel to the fire, and besides, Fu Shinian might not want to see him or let others know about their relationship.

She felt helpless, weary and lowered her head:

"What do I need to do, what can I do for you to believe me..."

"It’s not that there are no ways, it just depends on whether you want to prove it or not."

Su Mu suddenly had a bad feeling. She looked at Fu Shinian, somewhat reluctant to ask, since telling her meant she definitely would not want to know, let alone do it. But apart from doing things Fu Shinian’s way, she seemed to have no other method of proving herself, so she could only speak:

"What way."

"A checkup."

"What kind of checkup?"

Fu Shinian smiled with a hooked lip, a smile that was chilling and full of irony, "I’ll do the checkup."

Before she could finish her words, Fu Shinian was already making his move. Su Mu instinctively struggled, but eventually stopped, gently closing her eyes. Perhaps, perhaps this would convince Fu Shinian?

Fu Shinian looked over Su Mu’s body. Each part of her upper half was variously bruised in purples and greens, marks left by him. He could tell them apart—Su Mu was not lying. There really was nothing between her and Wei Shaoqin. In fact, upon seeing her wound, Fu Shinian had already believed her; still, a lesson had to be given, or else she wouldn’t learn.

In the security staircase where people could enter at any time, Su Mu’s body was trembling, yet she dared not resist and could only ask softly:

"Are you done looking? Can I put my clothes back on now?"

"I’ve only looked at half so far."

Understanding the meaning of his words, Su Mu’s face was filled with incredulity as she looked at Fu Shinian with despair in her eyes, "Fu Shinian, is it so hard for you to believe me..."

"Su Mu, there is no sentiment between us. You expect me to believe you on just a few words, wouldn’t that make me too easy to talk to? I surely don’t want to be the fool with a cuckold cap and not even be aware of it!"

He forcefully pried apart Su Mu’s attempting to stop him, completely disregarding whether it would touch her wounds. Su Mu knew she had no power to change his mind, but there were things Fu Shinian might not care about, which she couldn’t disregard.

The result of her desperate struggles was still his success. Su Mu felt like she was nothing but a doll without flesh and sensation in front of Fu Shinian, one he could bully and spoil at will while any emotions she had were unimportant.

She thought all the humiliation had ended there, but Fu Shinian wasn’t done with her yet. Today, he was like a devil, pinning her against the wall with clear intent.

At that moment, Su Mu truly believed Fu Shinian would do something even crazier, but she couldn’t accept it. The recent events were already challenging her limits.

She struggled, cursed, but Fu Shinian didn’t take it seriously. So, she could only beg for mercy, but Fu Shinian just smiled with a hooked lip, ignoring everything Su Mu said.
