Chapter 238: Chapter 238: Finding a Marriage Match for the ’Ex-Husband
Jiang Bei boarded the plane and, guided by a flight attendant, took her seat. The adjacent seat was still empty. She organized her carry-on belongings and began to put on headphones to listen to music. She had talked with her parents until late the previous night and had been busy all morning. Now, drowsiness was enveloping her, and all she wanted to do was sleep.
Even with her headphones on, she could still hear the sounds of the person next to her. Someone took the seat beside her, left after a short while, and then returned a few seconds later. Jiang Bei, with her eyes closed, paid it no mind.
As she was about to drift off into a drowsy sleep, someone gently tapped her shoulder. Jiang Bei slowly opened her eyes to see a smiling flight attendant reminding her to fasten her seatbelt. She thanked the attendant, removed her headphones, and looked down to buckle her seatbelt. It was then that she suddenly realized something was wrong, turned her head sharply to look at the seat beside her, and was instantly stunned.
Rong Shen looked at her and smiled faintly:
"What a coincidence."
——
In the airport arrival hall, Su Mu didn’t want to wait with Fu Shinian, so she made an excuse to get a drink and entered the nearby KFC. Fu Shinian didn’t stop her and watched her walk away. Then, glancing at the time, he turned and followed her into KFC.
Although one can sit in KFC without ordering anything, Su Mu felt it wasn’t quite appropriate. She ordered a glass of milk and, after paying, turned to look for a seat when she happened to see Fu Shinian entering. Their eyes briefly met, and with a slight frown, Su Mu walked towards an unoccupied table nearby.
Fu Shinian didn’t order any food. He never liked this type of fast food, so he just took a seat directly opposite Su Mu.
For a long time, Su Mu and Fu Shinian didn’t talk to each other, not even exchanging a glance, to the point where a young girl nearby thought they were strangers sharing a table. She mustered her courage, approached Fu Shinian, and, with a flushed face, asked:
"Handsome guy, can I add you on WeChat?"
Fu Shinian looked up to see two young girls, only 17 or 18 years old, in the prime of youth. Perhaps it was their first time doing something like this; they looked very restrained, but the anticipation in their eyes was transparent to anyone.
This wasn’t the first time Fu Shinian had encountered such flirtation, but it had become less frequent in the past two years. He didn’t respond immediately but casually shifted his gaze to Su Mu.
Su Mu glanced at Fu Shinian when the two girls spoke up. Her gaze briefly lingered on his face before losing interest. Although she wasn’t looking, she was somewhat curious about how he would handle the situation, not expecting that, in the end, he would throw the question onto her. He said:
"Well, you’ll have to ask my wife if she minds."
Su Mu was taken aback.
Fu Shinian raised his eyebrows at her, appearing completely indifferent, while the two young girls standing beside him seemed confused by the situation and looked awkwardly at Su Mu:
"Wife... you two are a couple?"
What kind of couple sits like this, without speaking a word or even giving each other a glance? Even if their relationship is strained, it couldn’t be this distant.
Hearing the words, Su Mu smiled faintly and responded:
"For now, yes, but that won’t be for much longer. As someone about to have the status of an ’ex-wife,’ I feel I have a responsibility to find my soon-to-be ex-husband a new marriage prospect."
With that, she took out her phone, navigated to WeChat, located Fu Shinian’s WeChat ID, and showed it to the two girls:
"This is his WeChat. You can note it down."
Su Mu felt her words held no hint of sarcasm and that her expression was also unproblematic. She even put on a smile to make them believe her; however, it proved ineffective. The two girls looked at each other, still not daring enough, muttered an apology for the interruption, and hastily left.
Fu Shinian looked at Su Mu:
"You scared away my next marriage prospect."
Su Mu turned and glared at him:
"My original intention was to find you a new match, but alas, the other party saw through you at a glance and realized you’re not a decent person, promptly correcting their mistake."
Fu Shinian didn’t continue to dwell on this topic. Even though he had intended to have a proper discussion with Su Mu, he also knew that now wasn’t a good time to talk. Instead, it was Su Mu who had something to ask Fu Shinian:
"What did Jiang Bei just say to you?"
"Shouldn’t you be asking Jiang Bei that question?"
"She won’t tell me."
Fu Shinian smiled faintly, "Then what makes you so sure I will tell you?"
Su Mu looked at him for a few seconds and eventually didn’t press further on the issue. Remembering the person she had just seen, she couldn’t help but worry whether Rong Shen’s confidant showing up at the airport at this moment was a coincidence or if there was an ulterior motive.
"Worried about Jiang Bei?" Fu Shinian saw through her at a glance, "All your worries about Jiang Bei are now beyond your reach. If Rong Shen has really followed Jiang Bei abroad as we suspect, then we’re powerless to help."
Su Mu knew this fact, of course. Thinking more at this point was futile. She could only hope that Jiang Bei could handle any situation she faced.
Looking up at Fu Shinian who was sitting across from her, Su Mu couldn’t help but ask:
"Who on earth would have the clout to make you come in person to pick them up?"
With the status of someone like Fu Shinian, it had to be someone quite significant to warrant his personal attention.
Upon hearing this, Fu Shinian seemed to lose interest, leaning back in his chair and watching the crowd outside coming and going with a detached tone:
"Su Shiyue is returning today."
Su Mu wasn’t too surprised. After all, it was almost New Year’s, and it seemed only natural for Su Shiyue to come back from abroad. However, by the look on Fu Shinian’s face, he didn’t seem to be too happy about it.
Half an hour later Su Shiyue’s flight arrived, and Fu Shinian handed Su Mu the car keys:
"You go wait for me in the car."
Su Mu nodded her head. She didn’t have the inclination to wait for Su Shiyue to come out together. The relationship between her and Su Shiyue had long ceased to require maintaining superficial pleasantries – why put on an act?
When Su Shiyue came out, she immediately spotted Fu Shinian standing there, excitedly dragging her luggage as she ran over and stood in front of him:
"Brother, I didn’t expect you to come pick me up personally."
Fu Shinian looked at Su Shiyue indifferently:
"Don’t be so pleased. I came today to drop someone off. Picking you up was just on the way."
After saying this, Fu Shinian turned and headed towards the exit without a second glance at Su Shiyue, not even offering to carry her luggage.
Although Su Shiyue was upset, she had always been afraid of Fu Shinian and couldn’t coax or wheedle. She obediently followed behind him. However, before they had walked far, the person in front seemed to remember something and turned around. Su Shiyue thought he had a change of heart. Her smile hadn’t fully bloomed when she heard his unemotional voice:
"Su Mu is waiting in the car. You’d better treat her well when you see her. No sneering or mocking remarks. If you cause her any distress, I won’t care that it’s New Year – I’ll buy you a ticket and send you straight back."
Su Shiyue: "..."
