Chapter 235: Straight to the Point
Chapter 235: Chapter 235: Straight to the Point
Fu Shinian watched their banter indifferently, finding it quite amusing and remained silent. Qiao Yu was right, he did intend to see Qiao Yu today, but seeing Ji Nanfeng here made him suddenly lose interest in speaking, and he just slightly smiled:
"I have nothing to say."
Qiao Yu gave him a speechless look and turned his gaze to Ji Nanfeng:
"Or maybe you shouldn’t speak either? After all, I’m even less willing to hear what you’ve got to say."
"I wasn’t planning on saying anything, but now that you’ve said that, I feel like I absolutely must."
Qiao Yu chuckled lightly:
"You don’t need to say it, I already know what’s bothering you. There’s a simple solution to this problem. If you’re sure you can’t settle for anyone but Jiang Bei, then cut off all your past flings and really go after her. Even if you can’t win her over, you have to accept it. But if you’re just toying with the idea of conquering a woman you’ve never met before, then you might as well back off, find an actress in your film company to pretend for a bit and satisfy your urge, don’t ruin a good girl."
Fu Shinian couldn’t help but express his admiration: "Insightful."
"Give me a break." Qiao Yu looked at him disdainfully, "Still here trying to sound profound, what gives you the right? Don’t think that just because you don’t talk about your own issues, I don’t know what’s going on between you and Su Mu. I also have a piece of advice for you, if you love her, say it out loud; if not, let go. Don’t dilly-dally, unclear about your own feelings yet unwilling to let go, it’s unmanly."
Although Ji Nanfeng was at a loss for words from Qiao Yu’s scolding, hearing him berate Fu Shinian like that made him quite happy, and he couldn’t help but burst into laughter:
"I finally know why I wanted to see you now, damn straight to the point."
Qiao Yu huffed coldly, sipping his coffee lightly: "It’s clear as a spectator. Any complex issue in the world is actually very simple; it’s just that you can’t see it clearly when you’re in the midst of it."
Having said that, Qiao Yu turned his eyes back to Fu Shinian, who had been silent the whole time:
"Today is the first day of Su Mu’s mother’s funeral. It seems somewhat inappropriate for you not to be at home comforting Su Mu but instead running over to my place."
Fu Shinian looked at him silently, but Ji Nanfeng seemed to sense something and slightly smiled:
"Perhaps he wants to be there, but Su Mu just doesn’t need it."
Fu Shinian licked his lips and eventually spoke up: "She wants a divorce."
"Damn." Ji Nanfeng cursed without holding back: "Are you sure it was Su Mu who suggested it? She loved you so deeply, yet she’s asking for a divorce?"
"What’s so impossible about that? Love can’t withstand being hurt over and over again." Qiao Yu remarked indifferently, unsurprised: "If I were Su Mu, I would also choose divorce. Why waste the remainder of my youth on a man who provides no warmth or future?"
Ji Nanfeng glanced at Fu Shinian and softly stated:
"From the looks of it, you really don’t want to part ways, right? But I’m sticking my nose in here – Su Mu and Wen Han’s matter, it really doesn’t bother you at all?"
"It’s already in the past."
"Alright, even if the matter of the photos is past, what about the previous life-saving incident? Even though you later also helped out, the person Su Mu remains grateful to and remembers is the person who saved her at the crossroads, Wen Han. Although she’s your wife and loves you now, it’s clear to everyone that her love for you stemmed merely from your rescue, not truly because it’s you."
Qiao Yu couldn’t resist interjecting:
"Ji Nanfeng, can’t you focus this clarity on yourself instead of bothering me?"
At this, Ji Nanfeng raised his eyebrows in denial:
"No, I just prefer to enjoy a good show, especially... when it’s Shinian’s show."
"Then don’t you have any plans for your feelings towards Jiang Bei?"
Ji Nanfeng shrugged:
"I don’t know. I feel like Jiang Bei suits me quite well right now, but as for whether it can last, I have no certainty either. After all, my history is there for all to see. Perhaps I will only know the answer after I have obtained Jiang Bei."
Qiao Yu gave him a huge eye roll, warning him:
"This is the last time. Don’t bring up Jiang Bei’s issue in front of me again."
"Do you still like her?"
"No." Qiao Yu denied, "I just can’t stand your annoying demeanor."
Ji Nanfeng smiled and said no more. Qiao Yu looked towards Fu Shinian:
"No matter how much I say, it is useless. Where you and Su Mu end up depends on you. If you are certain that you can forget the past with Su Mu and Wen Han, never mention it again, and treat her well, then go win Su Mu back. I feel that Su Mu does not love you any less but is just disappointed. As long as you change that imperious attitude of yours and make her reconsider divorce, it will be quite easy. Conversely, if you are not certain, and wish to continue treating Su Mu with your previous attitude, then you should let go of Su Mu. She deserves better."
Fu Shinian looked at Qiao Yu:
"Are you sure you’ve never been in a relationship?"
Unable to tolerate it any longer, Qiao Yu got up from the sofa:
"Get lost!"
——
When Fu Shinian returned to the old house, it was almost eleven o’clock. Standing downstairs, he saw a faint light coming from the master bedroom’s window. Such scenes had occurred countless times before; she always used this method to show her waiting. But at this moment, Fu Shinian did not feel she was waiting for him, perhaps more guarded.
Stepping upstairs, he gently pushed open the door of the master bedroom. As expected, Su Mu almost reflexively sat up from the bed, looking warily at the doorway where Fu Shinian was, seeming ready to confront him if he made any wrong move.
Fu Shinian remembered Qiao Yu’s words, suppressed all his emotions, and spoke in an indifferent tone:
"I’ll sleep in the guest room tonight. I just came to get some clothes to change into."
Su Mu watched him, the wariness in her eyes not easing in the slightest. Fu Shinian felt slightly hurt but held back from speaking, walked straight to the walk-in closet, and when he came out, he was surprised to find Su Mu still sitting on the bed in the same posture. Fu Shinian glanced at her and stepped away.
Perhaps because she had slept a lot during the day, Su Mu almost stayed awake all night. By five o’clock in the morning, when she finally felt sleepy, she sensed someone pushing the bedroom door open, but she was so sleepy that she did not open her eyes to check.
By the time she woke up, it was already noon. Remembering Jiang Bei was going abroad the next day, she decided to visit him. The old lady was watching television downstairs and hurried her over when she saw her:
"Hungry, right? There’s some porridge I made for you in the kitchen. Let Auntie Wang serve you a bowl."
Su Mu nodded:
"Thank you, Grandma."
After a simple meal, Su Mu bid her grandma farewell. The grandma didn’t stop her but arranged a driver to take care of her taking into account her health. Su Mu did not refuse. After all, she wanted to spend some quality time with her grandma during the time before the New Year, and as for the divorce, she decided to leave it unmentioned for now.
After Su Mu left, Auntie Wang approached the old lady and said:
"Today, when I went upstairs to clean, Mr. Fu was coming out of the guest room."
The old lady responded softly:
"He indeed needs to learn his lesson."
