Chapter 200: Chapter 200: It’s None of My Business
Just as Qiao Yu was about to scold him, he casually turned his head and noticed that Su Mu, who had been standing at the doorway, was now nowhere to be seen. He stood up from the chair, and Ji Nanfeng also seemed to realize something was wrong:
"Did Su Mu go inside?"
"At this moment, Su Mu wouldn’t possibly leave Jiang Bei alone, so she must have gone inside."
After saying this, Qiao Yu immediately dialed Fu Shinian’s phone. Seeing this, Ji Nanfeng asked:
"What are you doing?"
"I’m telling Shinian. That’s his wife, after all."
Ji Nanfeng didn’t stop him, but clearly saw the change in Qiao Yu’s expression after he mentioned Su Mu’s situation. After that, he didn’t say anything more and ended the call. Ji Nanfeng looked at Qiao Yu, who smiled faintly:
"Shinian doesn’t care?"
"How did you know?"
"Didn’t you notice what happened between Wen Han and Su Mu?"
Qiao Yu frowned slightly. Indeed, he knew that Wen Han was the person who had saved Su Mu, and Fu Shinian knew about it too. Initially, there was no special reaction, and he even felt a sense of panic about losing Su Mu. Just a few days had passed? Logically, it shouldn’t have been the reaction just now; he actually said straight to me, "It has nothing to do with me."
"Do you know something?"
Ji Nanfeng shook his head:
"I don’t know. I’ve been busy with Jiang Bei’s case these past few days and haven’t had the time to check, but it definitely isn’t anything good."
Qiao Yu was puzzled but didn’t say anything more.
——
Su Mu was also puzzled as to why a man in black who had just walked out of the club invited her in, but whether it was a trap or not, she had no reason not to go inside. Originally, she had wanted to call Qiao Yu to keep in touch, but shortly after entering, she was asked by the other party to hand over all her personal belongings, including her phone.
Su Mu didn’t give them up directly:
"Can I see my friend?"
The man smiled slightly:
"Miss Jiang herself asked me to invite you in."
Though puzzled, Su Mu had no choice under these circumstances. She handed over all her belongings to him, and the man, very politely, nodded slightly as he took the items from Su Mu’s hands and passed them to someone waiting nearby, then continued to lead the way.
She had only seen such scenes in movies from Hong Kong. Every three meters or so, a man in black stood, each with a commanding posture, hands behind their backs, seemingly ready for combat at any moment. This left Su Mu, already tense, unable to help but break into a cold sweat. If anything untoward happened, it seemed they had no choice but to face their fate.
But they weren’t quite like what she had imagined. Su Mu had thought that the underworld was utterly unreasonable, each one irritable and fiery. Yet now, having ventured deeper, she realized they could be so orderly and even genteel.
After about five minutes, the man stopped in front of a door. He knocked politely and, upon hearing a voice from inside granting permission, he pushed open the door, standing at the doorway with a courteous nod:
"Brother Shen, Miss Jiang has asked for this guest to be brought here."
"Let her in."
This was the first time Su Mu heard Rong Shen’s voice, deep and steady, holding an irresistible magnetism.
The man slightly turned his body and gestured for Su Mu to come in; she nodded faintly and stepped inside anxiously.
The private room was very spacious, so much so that Su Mu felt it was quite empty. She didn’t get a chance to look around at the surroundings because as soon as she entered, she focused her gaze on Jiang Bei, who was sitting on the sofa facing her:
"Xiaobei."
Su Mu hurriedly walked over while Jiang Bei also got up from the sofa, smiling:
"Who’s been running their mouth telling you I was here? You came without even calling me."
"I did call, your phone was unreachable."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Bei glanced at his phone, only to find it had no signal.
"This room has a signal blocker, naturally it wouldn’t go through."
Sitting opposite Jiang Bei, the man who had been facing away from Su Mu finally spoke, successfully drawing Su Mu’s gaze toward him.
Su Mu had seen Rong Shen before, but it was last time in a dimly lit underground parking lot, and his complexion was extremely pale. Her impression of him had always been of a fiercely frail man. Now seeing him again, the fierceness had not diminished, but his demeanor was scholarly. Had she not known his identity, she might have mistaken him for a businessman.
A successful and cunning businessman.
When Rong Shen saw Su Mu looking at him, he got up from his seat and stepped forward, extending his hand:
"I am Rong Shen, and I am honored to have Miss Su as a guest."
The situation was vastly different from what she had anticipated, so much so that Su Mu couldn’t quite adjust. After a few awkward seconds, she finally reached out her hand and lightly touched his:
"Hello, I’m Su Mu."
"Jiang Bei told me that you and she saved me last time. I have been delayed due to some matters and have not been able to personally thank you, which is my rudeness."
Su Mu’s gaze moved leisurely toward Jiang Bei, who shrugged helplessly at her:
"Don’t look at me; I’m just as surprised. After all, I even came here with a weapon."
Following the direction Jiang Bei pointed, Su Mu saw the dagger on the table and frowned at Jiang Bei. Even though she was standing unharmed in front of her now, Su Mu still disapproved. She could even imagine the feelings Jiang Bei had while bringing the dagger here.
Knowing what was on Su Mu’s mind, Jiang Bei hugged her:
"It’s alright; I never thought of actually using it. Instead of keeping you and others worrying about me, it’s better to cut the Gordian knot. I just didn’t expect things to turn out so differently from what I imagined."
Indeed, two hours earlier, after Jiang Bei had learned of Rong Shen’s whereabouts from Ji Nanfeng, it only took her a few seconds to decide to come here—not because she was brave or strategic or had great confidence in herself or Rong Shen. She simply didn’t want to continue waiting aimlessly.
The men in black at the door initially wouldn’t let her in, but at that time Rong Shen had not arrived yet. As Jiang Bei was about to force her way through, the two men in black simultaneously bent over and shouted respectfully:
"Brother Shen."
Jiang Bei instinctively turned around and saw Rong Shen in a black trench coat. He was no longer the weak figure she had rescued before. Now, he stood there, backed by seven or eight uniform men in black, with a force so strong it astonished Jiang Bei.
He seemed not to recognize himself, standing there with a blank expression as the cold wind lifted his coat hem, his demeanor as if he were the only person between heaven and earth, exuding a solitary arrogance.
Jiang Bei looked at him indifferently, curling the corner of her lips:
"Rong Shen, right? Hello, I’m here to collect a debt."
