Chapter 191: Chapter 191: Useless

The scuffle earlier had already been noticed by the property management, who hadn’t approached but discreetly called the police. Now, as the police arrived and saw people wincing in pain on the ground, one officer raised an eyebrow and asked, "What happened?"

Wen Han glanced at the three people beside him and stepped forward to explain. He actually didn’t know the full story himself. He had come to Jiang Bei today just to offer Su Mu an explanation in person. He had considered the possibility that Su Mu might not want to see him, but without seeing her condition for himself, he felt he couldn’t be at ease. Unexpectedly, after waiting from 6 PM to 1 AM, he finally saw her return only to have a fierce fight break out.

He was also relieved that he had come; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

This kind of brawling was serious, and even with Wen Han’s military status, it was necessary to take the people back to the police station for an investigation. However, Jiang Bei and Wei Shaoqin could go to the hospital first and could cooperate with the police by giving statements there.

Wen Han thanked them and helped the police load several people into the police car. After watching them leave, he returned to the others and said:

"I’ll take you to the hospital."

Three people, with two injured, the remaining Su Mu was probably also terrified. He couldn’t feel at ease and couldn’t leave them.

It was almost 2 AM. Jiang Bei really didn’t want any more delays. Being a doctor herself, she was well aware that her injuries were not serious. However, considering Wei Shaoqin, she still nodded and, along with Su Mu, helped Wei Shaoqin up from the ground.

Wei Shaoqin looked at Wen Han and said thanks:

"Thanks. Today you made me realize how stupid I was not joining the army like my father said."

Wen Han nodded but said no more, heading straight to the car.

Jiang Bei knew what had happened between Su Mu and Wen Han. Although the situation was special and she had been drinking, she still remembered clearly. She whispered to Su Mu:

"Why don’t you go upstairs first? Wei Shaoqin and I will go to the hospital."

Su Mu shook her head: "I won’t be at ease not knowing you two are okay."

Though Wei Shaoqin didn’t know what was going on, seeing them whisper made him feel uncomfortable:

"You two are really not acting like friends. Never mind the past, but after what just happened, don’t we share a bond strong enough now? And yet here you are, keeping secrets from me. I disdain you both!"

Jiang Bei thought he had a point:

"We weren’t discussing anything else. I just saw that Su Mu was too tired and wanted her to rest first."

"Are you out of your mind?" Wei Shaoqin looked at her as if she were foolish: "Do you think the opponents do not know where you live? What if there’s an ambush at home? How do you expect Su Mu, a woman, to handle that?"

Jiang Bei hadn’t considered this. Taking Wei Shaoqin’s analysis to heart, she quickly hugged Su Mu:

"You better come to the hospital with us."

Su Mu smiled: "I wasn’t planning on going back anyway."

As for Wen Han, she felt the best way to forget was to ensure they could meet without awkwardness.

Maybe everyone was tired, but the car ride to the hospital passed in silence. Close to reaching the hospital, a quiet Wei Shaoqin suddenly remembered something and directly asked Wen Han:

"Wen Han, it’s so late. Were you looking for her downstairs at Jiang Bei’s place?"

As soon as he spoke, Jiang Bei kicked his arm, Wei Shaoqin exploded:

"What are you doing?"

Jiang Bei: "Shut up!"

Wei Shaoqin: "..."

I fucking just said one sentence!

Perhaps the two bodyguards protecting Jiang Bei had informed Ji Nanfeng. The first person Jiang Bei saw upon getting out of the car was him. Barely steady on her feet, she was quickly pulled by Ji Nanfeng, who inspected her from head to toe:

"How are you? Are you injured?"

At that moment, Wen Han got out of the car and, seeing Ji Nanfeng like this, walked expressionlessly to shield Jiang Bei behind him:

"Mr. Ji, what are you doing here so late?"

A flicker of surprise crossed Ji Nanfeng’s face, but he soon realized that the man before him had some connection with Jiang Bei and smiled faintly:

"I heard from my men that someone attacked Jiang Bei and Su Mu, so I came to check."

Wei Shaoqin and Su Mu also got out of the car one after another. Seeing Ji Nanfeng, Su Mu casually greeted him, but Wei Shaoqin looked at Jiang Bei and Ji Nanfeng with a meaningful expression. He could tell that Wen Han was very dissatisfied with Ji Nanfeng.

Qiao Yu hurried out from the main hall, sizing up everyone:

"Don’t stand here, go inside and see where you are hurt."

Everyone headed to the emergency department. Jiang Bei called over two nurses as if he were at home, then about to wash his hands and change clothes to check Wei Shaoqin’s injuries, but was grabbed by Ji Nanfeng:

"Where are you going?"

Jiang Bei broke free from his grip and smiled faintly:

"Where I go is none of your business, is it?"

"I heard your arm was injured, let Qiao Yu take a good look at it."

"I’m fine, and I don’t need it; I am a doctor myself."

Ji Nanfeng wanted to say something, but Qiao Yu intervened to smooth things over, "You are a doctor, you know what an arm injury means for this profession. Even if you think it’s nothing, it’s still best to get it checked out."

Jiang Bei paused for a few seconds before nodding his head:

"Fine, then Wei Shaoqin..."

"I’ll arrange a doctor for that."

Jiang Bei responded and said no more, striding off to follow Qiao Yu.

Seeing this, Ji Nanfeng opened his mouth but eventually held back and followed them inside, only to be stopped by Jiang Bei:

"What are you up to?"

"Of course, to see how badly you are hurt."

"I don’t need you, and you are nobody to me; why should I let you see?" Jiang Bei looked at him coldly, "This is a hospital, my turf; patient privacy is confidential unless the patient consents, even family members have no right to know."

Ji Nanfeng’s patience reached its limit, and he coldly snorted at Jiang Bei:

"Jiang Bei, do you really not appreciate what’s good for you? If it weren’t for me today..."

"If it weren’t for you, then what? You want to take all the credit for yourself? I fear your face isn’t big enough; you don’t even ask what those people you sent did. They arrived after everything was already over. They weren’t here to protect me; were they here to watch the spectacle? I even suspect that they were moles."

"You..."

"Also, my skills are evident to your people too, so take away those you assigned to me, useless and annoying!"

Ji Nanfeng wanted to retaliate, but Qiao Yu stopped him:

"Enough, stop talking. The primary concern now is the injuries on Jiang Bei. You better stay outside for now."

Normally, Ji Nanfeng wouldn’t have left under such circumstances. He usually didn’t listen to anyone else, doing as he pleased, but this time, for the sake of Jiang Bei’s injured hands, he swallowed all his words.

He glared at Qiao Yu, then gave Jiang Bei a resentful look before turning around and walking away.
