Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Not Going Home Until Drunk
Qin Nianwan’s alliance with Chen Huifang was not accidental; it was Qin Nianwan who took the initiative to approach her. When Qin Nianwan was reviewing the information Han Lu had provided her, she noticed Chen Huifang, a character with a gambling addiction and desperate need for money, who didn’t care about familial ties – all traits that made her an easy target.
The day after learning that Chen Huifang had come to Shen City, Qin Nianwan had Han Lu find her. Han Lu barely needed to say anything to persuade Chen Huifang to agree to her plan, as she was indeed in need of money.
Moreover, Qin Nianwan could tell that she had her own plans and might even use this opportunity to demand a sum of money from Wen Han.
The end result proved that their collaboration had been quite pleasant. Now that she had gone abroad alone, Wen Han’s people had confirmed she boarded the plane and hadn’t made contact with anyone else. It could only mean that all the negatives had passed through Chen Huifang’s hands alone, and that Qin Nianwan herself had nothing to do with them.
From the driver’s seat, Han Lu glanced at Qin Nianwan through the rearview mirror:
"Now that we have the photos of Su Mu and Wen Han, when do you plan to give them to my brother?"
"No rush," Qin Nianwan said with a faint smile. "We need to think of a way to clear ourselves first. We can’t let Fu Shinian see any flaws."
Although Han Lu didn’t quite understand Qin Nianwan’s further plans, seeing her so confident, he didn’t say anything further. After all, if Qin Nianwan couldn’t come up with the money, he had ways to make her obediently return to her previous work, serving drinks and smiling for customers, since Xuanxuan was her weakness.
Jiang Bei had time off from the hospital during the holiday, and Su Mu didn’t go back to the old house either. She was in turmoil; perhaps she didn’t know what kind of mood to confront the old lady with by now. The two of them holed up at home all day, and by evening, Jiang Bei couldn’t stand the depressing atmosphere any longer. He called Wei Shaoqin and left with Su Mu straight for the bustling food stalls.
By the time Wei Shaoqin arrived, Su Mu and Jiang Bei had already ordered a table full of food. Wei Shaoqin raised an eyebrow as he stood by, then took a seat:
"Are you two planning to drink all night?"
Jiang Bei glanced at him:
"What have you been busy with recently?"
"What else could I be busy with? Other than company matters, it’s chasing girls," Wei Shaoqin replied with a bad-boy grin. "But I did hear about some interesting things happening with you recently. Being fancied by the Third Master Ji of Shen City, that means your charm isn’t so bad, huh?"
Jiang Bei glared at him:
"Does my charm need his affirmation? That’s an insult to me!"
"You look down on Ji Nanfeng that much?"
Su Mu chuckled:
"If you knew how Ji Nanfeng and Xiaobei’s first meeting went, you probably wouldn’t ask such a silly question."
Wei Shaoqin, intrigued:
"What happened?"
"I don’t want to talk about it," Jiang Bei said coldly, cutting him off. Wei Shaoqin raised an eyebrow but didn’t pursue further, knowing Jiang Bei’s temperament. He simply pointed to the two men sitting upright at the next table and said lightly:
"What’s with those two men in black? Are they not here for your protection?"
Su Mu glanced over and, seeing Jiang Bei’s reluctance to discuss it, decided to tell Wei Shaoqin about Jiang Bei’s encounter from a few days earlier. Wei Shaoqin’s expression became serious:
"Rong Shen? Are you sure it was him you saved?"
Jiang Bei and Su Mu exchanged looks: "You know him too?"
"Anyone who’s in the mix knows his name, right? Although our crowd doesn’t deal with the underworld, that doesn’t mean we haven’t heard of him."
Wei Shaoqin’s description made Su Mu anxious. She looked at Jiang Bei worriedly, but Jiang Bei, as always, seemed unconcerned, laughing lightly:
"No, what I want to know is, why are you all worrying about me without reason? I haven’t done anything wrong. Even if I did report it to the police, that’s my duty as a citizen. Even if I played a part in sending him to jail, looking at it from the point of right and wrong, it’s true I saved him, right? If he really puts righteousness first like you say, I don’t think he’d trouble me, but instead, come in gratitude for my saving his life."
Su Mu and Wei Shaoqin both looked at Jiang Bei, neither saying a word, perhaps thinking her thoughts on the matter were unique.
Seeing their expressions, Jiang Bei knew what they were thinking and waved her hand dismissively:
"Forget it, I won’t discuss it with you. Even if I did, you wouldn’t understand. Anyway, I have a clear conscience. If he truly has no class and comes to cause me trouble, I’m not a pushover."
Although Wei Shaoqin knew Jiang Bei had some backing, he couldn’t help but remind her:
"Even though I believe what you say, being cautious is never wrong. Rong Shen is clearly defined in matters of gratitude and grudge, but that doesn’t mean the people under him all follow the same code. Just one of them acting to avenge their boss can make your life difficult."
Jiang Bei didn’t argue and simply nodded lightly.
Seeing this, Wei Shaoqin didn’t press further. His gaze leisurely shifted to Su Mu:
"How about you? How are things?"
"Me?" Su Mu said with a soft smile. "I’m doing well."
Jiang Bei rolled her eyes but didn’t speak for her since Su Mu’s issues were fundamentally different from her own, and it wasn’t Jiang Bei’s place to share. It was Su Mu’s privacy.
Wei Shaoqin didn’t notice Jiang Bei’s gesture, so he didn’t doubt Su Mu’s words,
"So, Fu Shinian has been treating you well?"
Su Mu wasn’t too enthusiastic, but she responded truthfully to Wei Shaoqin’s question:
"There’s been a significant difference from before. You don’t have to worry about me."
"There’s not much I can do even if I am worried," said Wei Shaoqin. "No matter how wronged you seem to us outsiders in Fu Shinian’s presence, if you yourself don’t feel that way and even enjoy it, there’s not much we can do but needless worrying. But if Fu Shinian really has changed, as you say, that’s not bad; at least you can be more at ease."
Jiang Bei interrupted their conversation:
"We’re here to drink. Can we not talk about these depressing topics? Can’t we just enjoy and talk about something that makes us happy?"
Su Mu also didn’t want to dwell on matters that held no significance for her, and she smiled slightly:
"Fine, today we won’t mention Rong Shen or Fu Shinian; it’s just the three of us. Whatever’s fun, we’ll say; whatever we want to drink, we’ll drink!"
Wei Shaoqin looked at the two of them, his face unabashedly joyful:
"Then as a guy, it seems my only choice is to loyally accompany you two."
Jiang Bei gave him an approving gaze, slamming the table:
"Boss, bring out the drinks!"
