Chapter 181: Chapter 181: Gunshot Wound

The car meandered into a secluded cafe. Perhaps it was because the place was so quiet that there weren’t many customers inside. The person led Chen Huifang to the most hidden spot and slowly took off their mask. Chen Huifang sized her up, confirming she did not know her.

Han Lu looked at Chen Huifang and smiled faintly,

"What would you like to drink? Don’t be polite with me."

As she said this, she gestured to call over the waiter and started ordering. Chen Huifang indeed didn’t hold back, ordering three desserts and a milk tea and a coffee, while Han Lu only ordered a juice before sending the waiter away.

Chen Huifang looked at the young twenty-something girl in front of her,

"Little girl, you said you brought money for me, how much can you give? You don’t look like someone who has money."

"I don’t have much money, but my boss has plenty. As long as you handle this well, I guarantee you’ll get at least one million."

Su Mu had been shopping with Jiang Bei for quite a while. She seemed in a bad mood, so she reverted to her shopping spree mood. Su Mu didn’t leave empty-handed either, buying a coat for Fu Shinian. Jiang Bei initially said it was good she was starting to buy things, but when she saw what Su Mu was purchasing, her face darkened,

"You’re really hopeless when it comes to Fu Shinian."

Su Mu ignored her teasing and directly told the salesperson to wrap the coat using Fu Shinian’s number before paying with her card.

As the day began to darken, they prepared to head home. When taking the elevator down to the mall’s underground parking, Jiang Bei half-heartedly apologized to Su Mu,

"Susu, I’m really sorry. I was supposed to go with you to look at the storefront after a short while shopping, but once I started, I couldn’t stop."

Su Mu snorted,

"Forget it; don’t I know you? You weren’t planning on going with me today anyway. But I don’t mind; my studio can’t be sorted out in a day or two. What’s important is that you’re happy."

Jiang Bei hugged Su Mu,

"You are just too kind. To repay you for your company, I think only hotpot can express my gratitude."

Laughing and chatting, they headed to the car. Su Mu stood by the passenger side waiting for Jiang Bei to walk around to the driver’s side; suddenly, Jiang Bei screamed, her belongings scattering all over the ground. By the time Su Mu reacted and ran over, Jiang Bei had already crouched down to check on the man.

Su Mu saw it was a middle-aged man, around 30 years old, pale-faced, lying unconsciously against the side of Jiang Bei’s car, with a fierceness in his closed eyes that Su Mu could still sense.

"How is it?"

Jiang Bei pulled out her phone, and while dialing, she replied to Su Mu,

"Gunshot wound, unconscious right now."

"Gun...," Su Mu gasped in shock, "A gunshot wound?"

Jiang Bei nodded and quickly informed the hospital of the patient’s location. Without any panic, she grabbed a fallen bag from the ground, pulled out the clothing inside, and began administering first aid. She glanced back at Su Mu,

"If you’re scared, you can go ahead. I can’t just leave him."

Su Mu shook her head,

"I want to stay with you."

Jiang Bei just smiled, saying nothing more.

The ambulance arrived 20 minutes later. Jiang Bei helped the medical staff load the injured man onto the stretcher. After watching them leave, she turned to Su Mu, about to say something but Su Mu stopped her,

"I know, you better go."

Jiang Bei smiled apologetically,

"I indeed need to return to the hospital, but I won’t forget the hotpot I owe you. Be careful on your way back, and call me when you get home."

"Okay."

Jiang Bei hurried away, but Su Mu felt very uneasy. She had only seen such scenes in TV shows and had never imagined that someone close to her could get shot. Suddenly, the whole vast underground parking garage seemed gloomy, so she did not stay long and went straight home.

When she got home, her grandmother was eating. Seeing her return, the grandmother couldn’t help but feel puzzled:

"Weren’t you eating out with Xiaobei?"

Smiling, Su Mu walked over, "Xiaobei had to return to the hospital suddenly, so I had to come back."

She didn’t mention the gunshot wounded patient to her grandmother to avoid worrying her, and fortunately, the old lady did not ask further:

"You should have called, so I could have waited for you."

"No need."

Auntie Wang got up to get some chopsticks and bowl for Su Mu but was stopped by Su Mu: "Auntie Wang, you eat, I will get it myself."

As Su Mu came out of the kitchen, she heard her grandmother and Auntie Wang praising Jiang Bei. Su Mu couldn’t help but smile; although her grandmother hadn’t met Jiang Bei many times, she had a very good impression of her. As Su Mu sat down smiling, the grandmother suddenly remembered something and asked:

"Does Xiaobei have a boyfriend?"

Su Mu was taken aback, shook her head: "No."

"Then it’s perfect, I think Qiao Yu and her would make a good match, what do you think?"

Su Mu: "... Grandma, are you playing matchmaker?"

"Why not? I just think these two kids are both doctors, have common topics, and can understand each other’s work better. This will reduce many unnecessary adjustments in their future lives."

Su Mu also thought they were suitable, but alas, Jiang Bei didn’t think so:

"Grandma, Xiaobei said they are not suitable."

"Did you mention this before?"

"Yes, I talked about it with her before."

"That’s a pity." The old lady was quite regretful and started talking again with Auntie Wang about Jiang Bei and Qiao Yu. Su Mu watched this, couldn’t help but smile; however, matters of fate are hard to say. What seems unsuitable initially might become the most compatible in the end.

After dinner, Su Mu went back to her room to call Jiang Bei, but the phone rang for a long time without an answer. Thinking she might be busy, Su Mu did not call again.

The next day Su Mu called Jiang Bei, but the line was switched off. Worried, she dialed Qiao Yu’s phone, and after a few seconds of silence, Qiao Yu responded:

"Jiang Bei is in the hospital."

The tone of Qiao Yu’s voice alerted Su Mu that something wasn’t right: "Did something happen to Jiang Bei?"

"It’s unclear over the phone, let’s talk when you get here."

Su Mu hurriedly rushed to the hospital, but Jiang Bei was not in the emergency department. Su Mu then went to find Qiao Yu and saw Qiao Yu, Jiang Bei, and Ji Nanfeng in the office.

Upon closing the office door, Su Mu felt something was seriously wrong. She walked over to sit beside Jiang Bei without saying a word when Ji Nanfeng could no longer hold back and spoke first:

"Jiang Bei, I’m telling you, don’t ignore my words, or you’ll have to cry about it later. Did you even know who the other party was before you called the police? Do you realize your action could lead you to a graveless death?"
