Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Forced to Go to Liangshan
"Qiao Yu, you tell me," the old lady suddenly called out, "I ask him, but he won’t tell me the truth. You tell me, what exactly is going on between him and Susu?"
Qiao Yu: "..."
I can’t tell the truth either.
Desperately looking at Fu Shinian for help, but Fu Shinian seemed utterly oblivious to his plea for help, ignored him completely, leaving Qiao Yu frustrated. Did he think he wouldn’t dare to tell the truth?
"Grandma, there really are some issues between Shinian and Su Mu..."
"What issues? Did this youngster bully Susu?"
Upon hearing this, Qiao Yu laughed:
"Grandma, everyone else’s grandmothers tend to be closer to their own grandsons, always feeling that the granddaughters-in-law are not good enough, not worthy and such. How come it’s the complete opposite with you? Could it be that Su Mu is more important in your heart than Shinian?"
Old lady: "Don’t change the subject. I want to hear the reason."
Qiao Yu: "..."
Qiao Yu glared at Fu Shinian: If you don’t speak up, I’m really going to tell the truth.
Fu Shinian sighed and finally spoke:
"Old lady, if you want to know something, just ask me directly. Stop scaring people like this."
"I don’t want to either, but if I don’t do this, Susu will definitely leave later. If I’m not mistaken, you two have been living separately lately, right? I’m giving you a chance to properly apologize to Susu and keep her here. Otherwise, why do you think I’d want to be lying here?"
Qiao Yu: This is really a doting grandmother.
When the door was knocked, the old lady swiftly lay back down, leaving Qiao Yu helpless. He glanced at Fu Shinian, walked over to open the door, and saw Auntie Wang and Su Mu appearing at the doorway, smiling faintly:
"Come in."
Su Mu put down what she was holding and asked worriedly, "Grandma, are you okay?"
Qiao Yu: "... Don’t worry, it’s just a fever."
"But she had a fever a while ago too. Why does she have it again? She had a full check-up at the hospital after she recovered last time, and the results showed nothing wrong. The surgery from two years ago also recovered very well, and you saw those reports too."
Su Mu’s concern was evident to everyone. Fu Shinian couldn’t help but focus his gaze on her, feeling her genuine filial piety and respect for her grandmother.
Qiao Yu explained the reason to Su Mu, but it didn’t reassure her about her grandmother’s health. However, the most important thing now was to physically cool down her grandmother: "I’ll cool down Grandma physically for now. It’s not convenient for you guys to be here, please step out."
Before the two men could speak, Auntie Wang spoke up:
"Madam, you should go out too. I can stay here. I’ll call you when the old lady wakes up. I saw you had visitors when I came in."
It must be Wei Shaoqin.
But Su Mu was not at ease. However, Auntie Wang wouldn’t let Su Mu stay as it could blow her cover. Ultimately, it was Fu Shinian who spoke up: "Auntie Wang has always taken good care of Grandma, there won’t be any problems. You should go out and see."
Since Fu Shinian said so, it showed that the grandmother really didn’t have any major issues, regardless of how uneasy they felt, they had no choice but to leave.
But to Su Mu’s surprise, the visitor was not Wei Shaoqin, but Jiang Bei.
"How did you end up here?" Su Mu approached him.
Jiang Bei saw Su Mu standing with Fu Shinian and Qiao Yu behind her, and rolled his eyes openly to show his displeasure. Qiao Yu thought Shinian deserved that look, but he himself was innocent.
"Wei Shaoqin called me, I figured it was not too convenient for him to come."
Even though they were good friends, Wei Shaoqin was still a man. With Fu Shinian’s petty nature, any drama arising from his presence with Su Mu could be a disaster. Although she would have liked to see Su Mu and Fu Shinian part ways, Su Mu didn’t seem intent on that.
Even if she were, the likelihood was not very high.
"Can I leave now?"
Looking embarrassed, Su Mu said to Jiang Bei, "My grandma is ill, and I can’t leave."
"Ill?" Jiang Bei was skeptical. She couldn’t believe such a coincidence existed, "Then I should go see your grandma and greet her. You’ve always said she’s a nice person, and I’ve never met her."
Su Mu nodded:
"But my grandma is still unconscious and probably can’t speak."
"It’s okay, showing that I care is enough," Jiang Bei replied.
Without further words, Su Mu led Jiang Bei towards his grandmother’s room. Fu Shinian and Qiao Yu exchanged glances, the latter resignedly stepped forward to intercept,
"Auntie Wang is currently physically cooling the old lady. It’s risky to go in suddenly, it might chill her. She’s already not in good health; we shouldn’t make it worse. It will be the same if we wait for Auntie Wang to come out before visiting."
Jiang Bei eyed Qiao Yu scrutinizingly and inquiringly, requiring all of his energy to withstand such a gaze while maintaining a smile:
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
"No reason, you just look good today."
Qiao Yu: "..."
Qiao Yu had a feeling that Jiang Bei had almost guessed everything correctly.
Jiang Bei also merely had a suspicion, but seeing Qiao Yu’s reaction, she was almost certain. However, she couldn’t say anything; even if not for Su Mu’s sake, she had to respect the elderly woman’s dignity since she had good intentions.
Fu Shinian spoke out:
"Don’t just stand here, let’s go sit down."
Qiao Yu agreed: "Yeah, standing is so tiring, let’s go to the living room and sit down to talk."
Jiang Bei lagged behind Su Mu and walked shoulder to shoulder with the equally trailing Qiao Yu, whispering with a laugh audible only to the two of them,
"Qiao Yu, your acting is poor, suitable only for deceiving a fool like Su Mu."
Qiao Yu gave a slight smile,
"Believe it or not, I was forced into this."
Jiang Bei snorted softly and said no more.
Jiang Bei should have left upon learning that Su Mu could not leave today, especially since she had a night shift later. Yet, knowing that the house was filled with traps set for Su Mu, she felt compelled to stay and see what new tricks were to come.
As they all sat down, just as Qiao Yu was about to speak to ease the tension, Jiang Bei took the lead and said,
"We haven’t seen each other for a few days, Mr. Fu. You seem to have lost some weight, but not as much as Su Mu. After all, surviving several days and nights without sleep or food is already fortunate enough, unlike you, Mr. Fu, who has people by your side at all times and can be rushed to the hospital immediately in an emergency, which is very precious indeed."
Qiao Yu discreetly raised an eyebrow but decided not to speak, knowing that fanning these flames could easily set himself alight.
Fu Shinian sat across calmly, looking at Jiang Bei with a slight smile,
"Doctor Jiang, is it that you’re so relaxed here because all your troubles have been taken care of?"
Upon hearing this, Su Mu looked towards Jiang Bei:
"What trouble have you encountered?"
Jiang Bei chuckled lightly, "Mr. Fu really knows his friends well," she remarked.
Then she looked at Su Mu and gave him a reassuring smile,
"It’s nothing, just some idiot harassing me."
