Chapter 153: Chapter 153 Refusing to Visit

Before coming here, Qiao Yu didn’t have any hesitation. He thought that even if Su Mu and Fu Shinian were to part ways, a meeting was inevitable. Su Mu might not be adverse to seeing Fu Shinian, and Qiao Yu had a clear understanding of Fu Shinian’s feelings for Su Mu in recent times.

The only thing missing between them was an opportunity.

Now that the opportunity had arrived, Qiao Yu felt that, as their friend, he should give them a push.

However, this simple and firm idea changed and wavered the moment he saw Su Mu. He had always thought that although Su Mu had left Bishui Yuntian, and although she had been hurt by Fu Shinian, based on his understanding of her, she would choose to forgive, and even wanted to go back.

But, she was living well here, and Qiao Yu even had the thought that she truly belonged to this place—peaceful and comfortable, without any disturbances.

He wasn’t sure if he should interrupt.

"Is it because of him?" Su Mu looked at Qiao Yu and spoke.

Qiao Yu smiled and didn’t dwell on it:

"Last night, Shinian was hospitalized due to gastric bleeding. When I got off my shift, he still hadn’t woken up."

The hand Su Mu used to pour tea trembled upon hearing this news, causing the tea to spill onto the table. Seeing this, Qiao Yu quickly pulled out a tissue to wipe it, but he finally felt reassured.

She still cared about Fu Shinian.

Qiao Yu didn’t speak immediately, believing Su Mu would react.

After a few seconds of silence were broken by Su Mu, she looked out the window at the sky and said:

"How is he?"

"He’s alright, no surgery needed, just conservative treatment and rest. But you know, his stomach has always been problematic. He hasn’t been back to Bishui Yuntian since you left. Normally, he would decline business entertainments if he could, but recently he’s been like a changed person, never refusing any offer, even bypassing Song Yi’s help with the drinking, ending up drunk for four days straight, inevitably leading to this misfortune."

Su Mu replied indifferently:

"You’re his friend, you should advise him."

"How have I not advised him? But Shinian’s temperament, you probably know better than us."

Su Mu didn’t speak any further, her gaze distant, as if pondering something unknown. Qiao Yu suddenly felt uncertain again. Looking at her expression, she didn’t seem like she wanted to return to see Fu Shinian.

"Jiang Bei said you’ve almost recuperated here. Do you want to go back? Or, at least visit Shinian, to put your mind at ease."

Su Mu shook her head slightly:

"You’re by his side, I have nothing to worry about. Moreover, my return wouldn’t be helpful; the people looking after him are more professional than I am."

"You still can’t forgive Shinian?"

Wei Shaoqin had asked her this question, and she had said no; now Qiao Yu was asking her, and her answer was still the same:

"Qiao Yu, I don’t have a forgetful nature. I can choose to not care about the things he has done to me in the past not because I have a poor memory, but because in a marriage, someone has to compromise first, and clashing heads is not the way to live together. But even with continuous compromise, there’s still a bottom line."

"I understand."

"He wants to have children, whether for his grandmother or his own reasons, I understand all of it. I am not necessarily opposed to following his plans, but he shouldn’t have gone about it in that manner. I am a person, not a tool he can keep."

"Shinian, he..." Qiao Yu licked his lips, then reluctantly smiled. "Indeed, he is somewhat slow and overbearing in emotional matters. I won’t make excuses for him, but Su Mu, are you really planning to give up?"

Su Mu shook her head:

"It’s still the same, I don’t know. I’m not sure whether I want to keep going, nor do I know what the outcome of continuing will be, so I haven’t thought about it lately. I don’t want to make a decision in an unsettled state."

Qiao Yu silently looked at her for a few seconds before saying, "I understand."

——

By evening, when Qiao Yu returned to the hospital, Fu Shinian had already woken up. Auntie Lin was by his side, but he was working on business matters from his hospital bed. Upon seeing this, Qiao Yu frowned:

"Have you lost your mind? Your own body is in this condition, and yet you’re still working? Are all the people you’re paying just for show?"

Fu Shinian’s face was still not great, very pale, and he glanced at him faintly:

"There’s a bit of trouble with the acquisition of a major foreign company."

Qiao Yu knew that anything further he said would be useless, so he let it be. He looked around the room and didn’t see Ji Nanfeng:

"Ji Nanfeng didn’t come?"

Auntie Lin smiled, "He did come and has been here all along. He heard it was almost time to switch shifts. Mr. Fu wasn’t in any serious condition, so he went to the emergency department just a short while ago."

Realizing what Ji Nanfeng had gone to do in the emergency department, Qiao Yu immediately took out his phone to call him, but Fu Shinian stopped him:

"You can call him out of the emergency department if you want, but can you keep him away from my room?"

A muscle in Qiao Yu’s jaw twitched:

"What’s the issue?"

Fu Shinian didn’t respond, and Auntie Lin spoke on his behalf: "Mr. Fu feels that Mr. Ji talks a bit too much."

Ji Nanfeng didn’t answer the phone, likely busy. Qiao Yu understood Jiang Bei’s personality and figured he probably wouldn’t suffer much disadvantage, so he didn’t bother further. However, he was curious about Fu Shinian’s perspective:

"Did Nanfeng tell you that he’s taken a liking to Jiang Bei?"

At these words, Fu Shinian looked up at him:

"Is he a masochist?"

Qiao Yu chuckled lightly but said nothing more. However, Fu Shinian’s gaze hadn’t left Qiao Yu, making him somewhat uneasy: "What’s with that look?"

"It’s nothing." Fu Shinian returned his gaze to the computer, saying indifferently, "I’m just worried you’re feeling uncomfortable."

"Why would I feel uncomfortable?"

Fu Shinian smiled slightly, "You probably know better than I do."

Even if Qiao Yu was slow to catch on, he understood what Fu Shinian implied with those words. He opened his mouth, wanting to explain something, but after a few seconds, he laughed self-deprecatingly and ultimately didn’t say anything.

When Ji Nanfeng returned to the room, Qiao Yu had already gone back to the office, and Fu Shinian had finished his work, leisurely drinking the millet porridge Auntie Lin had brought. Upon seeing Ji Nanfeng, who seemed unenthusiastic, he glanced sideways at him:

"Did you hit a wall?"

Ji Nanfeng chuckled lightly: "When have you ever seen me fail? She’s just a bit fierce, hot-tempered, and comes from a rich and powerful family, but I’ve never backed down."

"She’s Su Mu’s close friend."

"I know," Ji Nanfeng responded, "I won’t hurt her. Just being friends."

Ji Nanfeng admitted that when he first heard Qiao Yu introduce Jiang Bei, he had a moment of hesitation, worried not about the Wen Family but about the relationship with Su Mu, fearing that handling things in the future would be quite troublesome. However, that night, he dreamt of Jiang Bei, those cold and indifferent eyes watching him all night, and when he woke up, his pants were wet.

It was the first time for him.
