Chapter 141: Not That I Can’t, Just That I Don’t Want To
Chapter 141: Chapter 141: Not That I Can’t, Just That I Don’t Want To
Ji Nanfeng found himself utterly defenseless against the two of them and could only turn to Jiang Bei for help:
"Gorgeous, aren’t you a doctor? Don’t you have to respect patient privacy? Will you just stand by and let them watch me without calling security to kick them out?"
Jiang Bei chuckled softly:
"The emergency department allows family members and friends to accompany the patient, as for what they say to you, that’s not our doctors’ responsibility."
Having said that, Jiang Bei’s gaze swept coldly over Fu Shinian and then she turned and left. No matter how loud Ji Nanfeng shouted, it was to no avail. Seeing this, Fu Shinian wanted to follow Jiang Bei but was stopped by Qiao Yu:
"You can talk to me if you have something to say, I’ll relay it for you. Doctor Jiang wouldn’t want to see you; she just wants to kill you."
Fu Shinian chuckled:
"I didn’t want to do much, just to have a simple word."
Upon hearing this, Qiao Yu couldn’t say much else and let Fu Shinian go.
At the department’s service desk, Jiang Bei was writing a medical record, and then she instructed a nurse to dispense medication. It was at this moment that Fu Shinian came over and stood beside Jiang Bei:
"Doctor Jiang."
Jiang Bei’s hand, which was writing, paused for a moment, and without even looking at Fu Shinian, she said, "As I have said before, this hospital doesn’t have the department to treat you, Mr. Fu. It would be better to go to a specialist."
"I have a few words to say about Su Mu."
Jiang Bei initially thought that since it was a hospital, to maintain her image as an angel in white, she wouldn’t take issue with him, and she also quietly suppressed all her complaints about Fu Shinian. But who would have thought that he would be so shameless as to come to her proactively and even mention Su Mu in front of her? The anger, which she could hardly contain, instantly ignited.
She looked at Fu Shinian with cold eyes:
"Su Mu? What could you possibly have to say? Do you regret not tormenting her to death and now you’re here to find out her current address, to further take action? Fu Shinian, who do you think you are? A god controlling everything? Su Mu must have been blind to fall for you!"
Jiang Bei was unwilling to talk to Fu Shinian alone, but Fu Shinian showed no signs of leaving. Standing at the busy service desk would ultimately affect others, so she ended up going with him to the relatively quiet corridor opposite, where they stood on different sides. Yet, Jiang Bei didn’t even want to glance at Fu Shinian, her entire demeanor very impatient:
"What exactly do you want to tell me?"
Fu Shinian hadn’t intended to say much, only taking out a card and extending it towards Jiang Bei:
"This, please pass it on to Su Mu."
Jiang Bei glanced at the card in Fu Shinian’s hand, "What does this mean? Have you realized you’ve done too much to Susu and want to make amends? But Fu Shinian, not everything in this world can be fixed with money. Do you really think money is almighty?"
Fu Shinian had probably never encountered someone as disrespectful to himself as Jiang Bei, with every sentence she uttered thick with sarcasm. He believed he had never wronged her, yet she reacted as if seeing an enemy upon encountering Fu Shinian. Other than Su Mu’s reason, he truly couldn’t figure out another.
"I had no intention of compensating with money. She is alone out there, took nothing with her when she left, and isn’t someone who likes troubling others. Even with you, she would not seek help unless it was absolutely necessary, right?"
Jiang Bei looked at Fu Shinian, realizing for the first time that he, in fact, knew something about Su Mu, at least he clearly understood Su Mu’s temperament. She took the card, chuckled softly:
"I’ll accept this for now, because it’s what Su Mu deserves. But when you get divorced in the future, you’ll owe Su Mu much more than this."
Fu Shinian was about to step away, but he halted in his tracks at Jiang Bei’s words. He turned to look at her, his gaze no longer gentle but sharp, his tone low and unmistakably dissatisfied as he spoke:
"Divorce? Did Su Mu tell you that?"
"Whether it’s Su Mu who told me or not, I’ll still advise Su Mu to divorce you!"
Fu Shinian chuckled lightly and responded:
"Miss Jiang, you should be clear, I’m standing here politely listening to your sarcasm and dissatisfaction out of the basic courtesy and respect a man owes a woman, but that doesn’t mean my patience is limitless. You can continue to test me, but be prepared for the consequences."
"Are you threatening me?"
"I don’t think of it as a threat." Fu Shinian looked at her, his expression indifferent. "As Su Mu’s friend, you can take up her fight, but in the end, this is still a family matter of mine. Do you think your status allows you to meddle in my marriage? People should have self-awareness. Or do you think you’re fearless because you have the Wen Family as relatives?"
Jiang Bei had never been spoken to like this before and was about to explode with anger, but Fu Shinian cut her off before she could finish: "You..."
"You should know, it’s not because of your capability that Su Mu could easily leave Bishui Yuntian and now peacefully stays with Wei Shaoqin. It’s only because I’m aware you want what’s best for Su Mu. But if you keep instilling such thoughts in Su Mu, I think perhaps I could have her return to Bishui Yuntian."
Jiang Bei snorted lightly: "Do you think you can do whatever you want?"
"I want to see Su Mu, want her to come back. Do you think you can stop me?" Fu Shinian scoffed. "Or do you think just because the property isn’t registered under Wei Shaoqin’s name, I won’t be able to find out?"
Jiang Bei stared at Fu Shinian in astonishment, never having guessed that he was fully aware of Su Mu’s current situation. Like he said, he hadn’t gone to her not because he couldn’t, but because he didn’t want to.
After saying this, Fu Shinian left, leaving behind a thoroughly subdued Jiang Bei. She reevaluated what she had said to provoke Fu Shinian into revealing his true self, with the most probable cause being her suggestion that Su Mu divorce him.
Could it be that Fu Shinian didn’t want a divorce?
When she returned to the emergency department, Fu Shinian was no longer there. Qiao Yu had administered medication to Ji Nanfeng, temporarily alleviating his symptoms. Jiang Bei was too bothered by the day’s events to look further and wanted to head straight back to her office. But Ji Nanfeng, ignoring his pain, lunged in front of her to stop her:
"Beauty, can I get your contact info?"
Jiang Bei smiled faintly: "Sure, take note of it."
Ji Nanfeng raised an eyebrow and smiled: "Alright, tell me. I have an excellent memory for beautiful women. If you only tell me once, I’ll never forget it."
"My number is easy to remember, 110."
Ji Nanfeng: "..."
"If you dare to show up in front of me again where you’re not wanted, I’ll call the police and report you for harassment," Jiang Bei snorted as she looked at Ji Nanfeng. "Or do you think your entrance to the emergency room made such an impression that I’d look upon you favorably?"
Ji Nanfeng: "..."
Qiao Yu chuckled behind him, patting his shoulder: "Aren’t your claws stretching out a bit too far? She’s Su Mu’s best friend, do you dare to touch?"
Ji Nanfeng opened his mouth:
"...Oh."
