Chapter 124: Chapter 124 In the End, It’s Not Him

She could see the difficulty on Auntie Lin’s face; if Auntie Lin loaned out the phone, she was likely to lose her job. It really wasn’t necessary for her to drag others down because of her own issues.

Su Mu refused Auntie Lin’s support and walked back to the master bedroom step by step. It wasn’t until she lay back down on the bed that she realized how fragile a person could truly be.

She had gone only two days and two nights without eating, yet it seemed her body could no longer maintain normal activity. Just the distance of going up and down stairs appeared to have exhausted all her strength. As she lay in bed staring at the ceiling, she couldn’t help but wonder if her death might bring Fu Shinian to see her one last time.

Auntie Lin was truly worried about Su Mu’s condition, so she quietly made a call to Qiao Yu. When Qiao Yu picked up the phone, there was silence for a few seconds before he spoke:

"I’ll be right over."

After hanging up, Fu Shinian’s gaze fell on his face, "Something wrong?"

Qiao Yu nodded:

"A friend had an accident and wants me to come over to check."

Ji Nanfeng was pouring a drink when he heard this and looked up at Qiao Yu, laughing softly:

"Alright, since the call has come to you, it must be urgent. Go ahead."

Qiao Yu stood up and grabbed his coat from the back of his chair:

"Then I’ll be back later."

Ji Nanfeng nodded indifferently in acknowledgment.

It wasn’t until Qiao Yu’s figure had disappeared from the private room that Ji Nanfeng leisurely turned to Fu Shinian, "You obviously know, yet if you don’t want it, why didn’t you stop it?"

Fu Shinian drained his glass in one gulp, without saying a word.

"Have you realized that you’ve been distracted all day? You’re clearly worried to death, so why won’t you admit it and instead stubbornly insist ’let her be’? Auntie Lin has called more than a dozen times today, and you patiently answered each one. It’s obvious you want to know how she is doing. You’re also very aware that if she had actually given in, Auntie Lin wouldn’t have made so many calls, and the fact that the call ended up on Qiao Yu’s phone can only mean..."

Ji Nanfeng looked at Fu Shinian:

"Su Mu’s condition... isn’t very good."

When Qiao Yu arrived at Bishui Yuntian, the bodyguards stopped him at the door. Qiao Yu wasn’t upset; instead, he smiled:

"The person locked inside is Mrs. Fu by all rights. If something really happens to her inside, can you bear the responsibility?"

The bodyguards looked at each other in dismay, yet they didn’t dare to make the decision on their own. After all, their orders were clear: no one is permitted to leave, and no one is allowed in.

But they also recognized the man in front of them; he was nearly a representative of Mr. Fu... In their moment of hesitation, Auntie Lin, hearing the commotion, hurried out from inside:

"It was I who called Mr. Fu just now and asked for Dr. Qiao to come over."

With someone to take responsibility, the bodyguards didn’t insist any longer and let Qiao Yu in.

Auntie Lin said worriedly:

"Dr. Qiao, please check on Mrs. Fu quickly. She hasn’t eaten anything for two days and two nights and hasn’t slept at all. If this continues, no one can bear the responsibility."

Qiao Yu glanced upstairs and replied:

"I’ll go up and check."

Standing in front of the master bedroom door, Qiao Yu gently knocked, but received no response. He didn’t wait any longer and pushed the door open to see Su Mu sitting by the bed, staring blankly out the window. A sigh of relief escaped Qiao Yu as he stepped forward.

When Su Mu heard the noise, her eyes blinked slightly. Turning her head and seeing it was Qiao Yu, the last bit of brightness in her eyes dimmed.

As Qiao Yu pulled up a chair and sat down next to Su Mu, he kept thinking about the last time he saw her. It didn’t seem too long ago, yet why did she seem like a completely different person now? Her complexion was poor, her dark circles were alarmingly heavy, and even her breath was weak.

"It seems you’re disappointed that I’m not the Fu Shinian you wanted to see?"

Su Mu shook her head, her voice soft and husky—a tone Qiao Yu had never heard from a woman before:

"Are you here to give me an IV?"

Qiao Yu shook his head:

"If I were to give you an IV, you’d probably yank it out the next second, wouldn’t you?"

"Glad you know that." Su Mu’s gaze returned to the window. Following her line of sight, Qiao Yu saw nothing but darkness. He realized Su Mu wasn’t absorbed by the view but, perhaps, by the concept of freedom.

"I’ve just parted ways with Shinian, and I might need to go back later. If you have anything to say, tell me, and I’ll pass the message on."

"What I want to ask, you can’t convey."

"But at least I can let Shinian know of your intentions."

Su Mu gave a bitter smile, "I have no other thoughts. I just want him to come to see me. I suppose Auntie Lin must have told him everything I did, but he still refuses to show up. What can you do?"

Qiao Yu looked at Su Mu:

"I don’t know what has happened between you two, but it’s the first time I’ve seen Shinian so furious. It must be something important. If you’re willing, you can talk to me about it. Maybe I can help you find a way to break through to him."

"I believe you’ve said a lot for this cause, but it obviously hasn’t had any effect." If Fu Shinian had taken Qiao Yu’s words to heart, it would be Fu Shinian standing before her now, not Qiao Yu.

Qiao Yu smiled slightly:

"So that’s why I said I need to find the breakthrough with you."

Su Mu was silent for a few seconds before asking Qiao Yu a question:

"Qiao Yu, can you feel that I like him?"

Qiao Yu nodded:

"Of course, I’m not blind."

He stood up to pour a glass of water for Su Mu and handed it to her. She glanced at it but didn’t take it, saying indifferently:

"But why doesn’t he believe what even a bystander can feel? Is it just because I made a deal with him for this marriage, so in his eyes, I’m someone without any feelings, only after profit, scheming and calculating? He’s clearly so smart, capable of seeing through the deception and intrigue in the business world, but why can’t such a man understand me?"

Qiao Yu didn’t know how to answer this question. After all, he wasn’t Fu Shinian. Even if they were close, he could never fully understand the subtle emotions of a relationship. He felt compelled to offer Su Mu comfort, fearing that if he didn’t say something, she might completely lose hope.

"Actually, in my eyes, Shinian is not someone who can compromise easily. He always strives for perfection in everything, chasing the ideal. But someone like him had no choice in his own marriage. Can you imagine how he must feel?"
