Chapter 100: Chapter 100 Have a Child for Me

Su Mu tried every which way to decline, but the boss still left behind 200 yuan, so Su Mu had no choice but to hold on to it for Wei Shaoqin for the time being.

After the boss left, Su Mu picked up a skewer of lamb and offered it to Fu Shinian:

"Want a taste? It’s really good."

Fu Shinian still wore a half-smile:

"It seems you haven’t answered my question yet."

Su Mu slowly retracted the lamb skewer she had offered and confessed honestly, "Alright, I admit that I did get drunk here once, not long ago."

"The time you ran away from home?"

Su Mu nodded embarrassingly: "That was the time."

"Go on." Fu Shinian said indifferently, "Who is that friend of yours who overpaid? Jiang Bei?"

Of course, Su Mu had thought about hiding the truth, but it was clear that Fu Shinian wouldn’t believe her; she ultimately chose to tell the truth:

"No, it is..."

"Wei Shaoqin?"

Su Mu looked up in surprise: "How did you know?"

"After the drama of leaving home, your relationship with Wei Shaoqin improved dramatically, didn’t it? Aside from getting drunk, I can’t think of any other reason."

Su Mu waved her hands anxiously to deny it:

"It’s not what you’re thinking."

"Oh? And what am I thinking?"

Fu Shinian never really suspected that there was anything amorous between Su Mu and Wei Shaoqin because he was confident that if Su Mu ever did anything to betray their marriage, she would tell him at the first opportunity, just like she thought to call him first thing when she woke up in the hospital.

He was quite confident about this.

The dramatic improvement he mentioned was simply Wei Shaoqin going all out to help Su Mu at the film city, even though his methods were questionable, and even slightly infuriating.

"I told you before, Wei Shaoqin took my wallet and insisted on being treated to a meal before returning it. So I brought him here because I could afford the expenses here... And I was in a bad mood that day, so I had a few drinks, but I can’t hold my liquor well and got drunk after just a few glasses. Afterwards, he took me to Jiang Bei’s place."

Fu Shinian remained silent. Su Mu quietly waited for a while, but he still said nothing, which only made her more anxious. Just as she was about to speak up and confirm his thoughts, he said nonchalantly:

"It’ll be cold if you don’t eat it soon."

Su Mu looked at him:

"You’re not angry?"

"Su Mu." He looked at her, both seriously and attentively, "Do you think if I believed you did something to wrong me, I would be sitting here with you, eating lamb skewers?"

Upon hearing this, Su Mu fell silent for a few seconds, then she smiled faintly.

By the time they finished eating, Su Mu was preparing to settle the bill, but Fu Shinian beat her to it. She watched him exchange a few words with the owner from a distance, but she couldn’t hear what they said. It wasn’t until he walked back to her side that Su Mu couldn’t help but ask:

"What did you say to the owner?"

Fu Shinian glanced at her and began walking out of the stall:

"I told him that next time you come, don’t bother treating you."

Su Mu didn’t believe it but decided not to ask any further.

It was already one o’clock in the morning by then, and even Shen City had gradually quieted down. Su Mu and Fu Shinian walked side by side on the nearly deserted streets, neither of them speaking. It was so quiet that only the sound of the wind could be heard. Both of them had worn trench coats that day, and now, as the wind gently lifted the hems of their coats—one black, one white—they brushed against each other, much like the way Fu Shinian tightly held Su Mu’s hand at that moment.

When they reached a crossroads, Su Mu inexplicably stopped in her tracks. Fu Shinian halted alongside her, glancing sideways at her. He saw her staring at the crossroads ahead, lost in thought, her expression telling him that it was something very important to her.

Fu Shinian remembered a post on her Weibo which mentioned a crossroads, it seemed to say:

At the crossroads, I was ready to face death, but your arrival gave me a new lease on life. In that moment, you became my future.

It was only when Fu Shinian released her hand that Su Mu slowly came back to reality, turning to look at him as he took a cigarette and lighter from his coat pocket. For an instant, Su Mu wanted to stop him, to tell him too much smoking wasn’t good, but the words reached her lips and she swallowed them back down. He knew more about it than she did; he had his own limits.

Especially standing at this crossroads.

Even though many years had passed and the surrounding environment had changed greatly, Su Mu’s memories of that time remained vivid—especially now standing here with him from those days. She found it all so miraculous that she couldn’t help but start to tell Fu Shinian:

"Back then, I encountered someone here..."

"It’s getting late." Fu Shinian’s tone cooled, as he took a heavy drag of his cigarette, "Let’s take a taxi home."

The interruption was so apparent that Su Mu couldn’t possibly be unaware of it. She smiled faintly. After all, why bring up bygones? Moreover, time had passed, and he had been performing a good deed that day; he might have forgotten it long ago. The past was past, and what mattered most was her future with Fu Shinian.

"Okay, let’s go home."

Fu Shinian looked at her deeply but ultimately didn’t say anything further.

By the time they got home, it was past 2 a.m. Just as they reached the second floor, the guest room door opened from the inside, and Wen Shaoyuan, with his messy hair and bleary eyes, appeared in front of them. He scratched his head while looking at them:

"Where did you guys go? There’s a smell of grilled kebabs."

In that moment, Fu Shinian inexplicably felt like he had sneaked out to have a treat behind his son’s back.

Su Mu didn’t have time to process that feeling as she immediately took Wen Shaoyuan back to his room. After making sure he fell asleep, she returned to the master bedroom, where Fu Shinian was showering. Su Mu noticed the scent of barbecue on herself too and had just taken off her coat when Fu Shinian came out of the bathroom, his body wrapped only in a towel. Thankfully, the old house had its temperature regulated, so it wasn’t too cold.

Fu Shinian gave Su Mu a look, and without a word, he headed to the large bed, sitting on the edge as he wiped his hair. When Su Mu saw this, she walked over to stand in front of him. At that instant, Fu Shinian stopped his motions, and Su Mu reached out to take the towel from him, gently drying his hair:

"Are you in a bad mood?"

Ever since the moment he started smoking at the crossroads, Su Mu had felt it. She just didn’t know the reason.

Fu Shinian didn’t say a word, and Su Mu didn’t press further, continuing her task. After removing the towel from his head, she touched his hair, "It’s still not dry. I’ll get the hairdryer to blow it for you."

He remained silent. Su Mu naturally assumed this was an implicit agreement, but just as she turned to go to the bathroom, he suddenly grabbed her wrist, pinning her in front of him. The next second, Su Mu heard his muffled voice, as he said:

"Su Mu, have a child for me."
