Chapter 80: Chapter 80: There is a Situation
"Meili’s at Charm?"
The man’s voice was deep over the phone, and even through the static, his simmering anger was palpable.
"Uh-huh!"
Nangong Li pulled out a cigarette, "What’s the matter? Don’t like the sound of that? She’s not married to you yet, can’t you mind your own business?"
The beeping tone sounded—the call had been hung up.
Nangong Li glanced at the disconnected call and chuckled softly, "Such a temper. Geez, it’s exhausting to have a brother with such strong possessiveness. Alright, I’ll play the good guy through and through, go check on my future sister-in-law and see where she’s gotten to now."
Downstairs, there was chaos.
When Nangong Li descended, he saw the scene of Lin Qian running out hurriedly with several security personnel.
Her face looked panicked, supporting a man on a security guard’s back with one hand, faint tear stains still visible on her face.
Nangong Li’s expression darkened, and he quickly pulled a waiter aside to ask, "What’s going on with them?"
"Boss, Miss Lin’s friend passed out after drinking with her, and now she’s rushing him to the hospital."
Nangong Li had given special instructions to the service desk, so the waiter knew that Lin Qian was an esteemed guest of Nangong Li’s.
Lin Qian’s friend?
A man?
And she had cried?
There’s something fishy!
Nangong Li quickly followed them out, pulling out his phone to call Yin Moran while walking.
The phone beeped incessantly, but no one answered.
"Damn it!"
Nangong Li cursed, rushing to the parking lot, and after getting into his car, he sent a message to Yin Moran.
"Your woman’s been taken to the hospital!"
Not taking his calls, he’d make him anxious first.
Hospital.
Lin Qian ran fast alongside the gurney.
The man lay on it with his eyes tightly shut, his complexion pale, his chest covered in a wide expanse of red that was glaringly vivid.
Lin Qian covered her mouth, her eyes brimming with tears that rolled down her cheeks as she ran.
Yu’an, you can’t have anything happen to you!
She was absolutely terrible!
Why did she let him drink!
"Family members of the patient, please stay back."
The medical staff pushed Su Yu’an into the emergency room, gesturing for Lin Qian to stop.
Lin Qian bit her lip and watched the rotating red light above the operation room, tears blurring her vision.
She leaned against the wall, holding her chest tightly, feeling her body trembling lightly.
Her heart kept praying that Su Yu’an would be alright.
When Nangong Li entered, he saw Lin Qian leaning against the wall, staring blankly at the indicator light, looking so lost, helpless, and vulnerable.
"Lin."
Hearing Nangong Li’s voice, Lin Qian slowly turned her head, wiping away tears with a voice hoarse from crying.
"Mr. Li, why are you here?"
"Someone had an accident on my turf, and it’s your friend, so of course, I had to come and check."
Nangong Li handed her a tissue, "What exactly happened? Who’s the guy inside?"
"It’s all my fault."
Lin Qian took the tissue and bit her lip, "The person inside is Su Yu’an, we used to be lovers. We broke up four years ago, and now he’s come back asking for my forgiveness. I got carried away and let him drink, didn’t expect him to..."
Su Yu’an?
It was him!
Nangong Li pondered, about to say something when his cell phone rang from his pocket.
"Wait a second."
Nangong Li gave Lin Qian a nod and took out his phone, a slight smile playing on his lips.
So, the guy finally called back?
Does he know that his future wife’s ex is back asking for a reconciliation?
Nangong Li glanced at Lin Qian and walked away to a corner.
"Hello."
"Where are you?"
"At the hospital."
"What happened? Why is Lin Qian at the hospital?"
The male voice on the other end of the line was still deep but clearly carried a hint of anxiousness.
Nangong Li’s attractive peach-shaped eyes moved around, "If you come here, won’t you find out?"
"Nangong Li!"
Through gritted teeth, a cold chill could be felt.
Nangong Li laughed softly, "Alright, alright, I’ll tell you. She’s fine. But it’s pretty much the same as not being fine."
"Speak human language."
"That line again? Don’t you have something new to say?"
It wasn’t him who was in a hurry anyway, it was always that guy who hung up on him.
The person on the other end of the line was silent, with only the sound of heavy breathing.
It seemed like, at this moment, someone was on the verge of raging.
Nangong Li touched his nose and stopped teasing, "It’s Su Yu’an who’s in trouble. Somehow, after drinking a little with Lin Qian, he fainted. Your future wife is now crying with a face like rain-washed pear blossoms."
The beeping sound could be heard again.
The call had been hung up.
Nangong Li chuckled and shook his head as he looked at the phone that had been disconnected.
His gaze swept over to the woman who was still standing blankly against the wall, staring at the indicator light. Nangong Li turned to leave, ready to buy her some water and food.
At this moment, Lin Qian was leaning against the wall with memories of Su Yu’an flashing through her mind.
In her memories, he was always smiling at her, always immaculately dressed, the picture of a perfect gentleman.
The first time they met, she was seven years old.
Su Yu’an’s mother brought him to the Gu Family to celebrate the New Year.
Everyone joked about them, saying they made a perfect pair, like a little boy and girl made of gold and jade.
She was shy, hiding behind Mrs. Gu, not willing to play with him.
He smiled and reached out his hand, his voice clear and pleasant, "Little sister, I’m not a bad person, I’ll take good care of you."
Just like that, their small hands came together, and this man stayed by her side for decades.
Under the gardenia trees on campus, by the lotus pond, in the breezy open fields, they left their footprints behind.
Such happiness came to a harsh stop four years ago.
She couldn’t understand how the man, who was as refined and cultured as jade, could break up with her because of her background.
And he did so resolutely, without leaving any room for reconciliation.
"Qianqian, forgive me, I never meant to say those things four years ago. Actually, I..."
Flashes of what Su Yu’an had said to her in the bar went through her mind.
He never meant to hurt her with his words?
Did he have his reasons?
What were those reasons?
Why couldn’t he be upfront with her?
Lin Qian bit her lip, her apricot eyes shimmering with a faint glow as her thoughts raced.
The familiar ringtone of her phone came from her bag.
Lin Qian took out her phone and saw that it was her son, Lin Zirui’s call.
She sniffed, coughing softly to make her voice sound less strange.
"Hello, baby."
"Mommy, are you okay? I saw your location shows you’re at the hospital, why?"
Hearing her son’s concerned voice, Lin Qian lifted her eyes to the still red indicator light, feeling an inexplicable tightness in her throat.
"Mommy is fine, it’s just that one of Mommy’s friends had an accident. Baby, Mommy might have to take care of him at the hospital tonight, can you take good care of Candy for Mommy?"
Su Yu’an was in the hospital because of her.
Regardless, she couldn’t leave right away.
"Don’t worry, Mommy, I’ll take good care of Candy."
Lin Zirui paused, "But Mommy, is your friend a man or a woman? Do I know him? Why is he hospitalized?"
A barrage of questions, Lin Qian fell silent for a moment and chose not to hide the truth, "It’s Uncle Su Yu’an, he’s hospitalized because of something to do with Mommy. So, I must stay here to take care of him."
