Chapter 79 You’re Just Like Other Men

Chapter 79: Chapter 79 You’re Just Like Other Men

"Manager Lin, let’s toast to you first, welcome to the MXL Su City counter."

Chen Fei took the lead, and a group of young employees followed suit, loudly laughing and raising their glasses.

Lin Qian came back to her senses and clinked glasses with them, smiling.

As the group ate, they freely joked and laughed among themselves.

At the height of the lively atmosphere, a male voice came from above, "Qianqian?"

Upon hearing that voice, the smile on Lin Qian’s face stiffened.

She didn’t need to look up to know who it was.

She really picked a great day, how could she bump into Su Yu’an again just by joining a gathering.

"Qianqian, is that really you? Have your foot injuries healed?"

Su Yu’an smiled elegantly, looking toward her feet.

The employees beside her recognized Su Yu’an and quickly shifted to the side, making room for him.

Su Yu’an gave the employees a gracious smile, mesmerizing a few of them once again.

Private whispers quickly followed.

"Wow, isn’t this tender and refined man the one who was waiting outside the counter for Manager Lin last night?"

"Yeah, yeah, but it seems like Manager Lin isn’t happy to see him. Do you think he’s the one who sent the roses?"

"It must be him, such a handsome and romantic man. Shouldn’t we create an opportunity for him and Manager Lin?"

"..."

A few employees discussed in low voices, and Lin Qian furrowed her brows, "Mr. Su, we are having a meal, and it’s not convenient to have outsiders here."

"It’s very convenient, we don’t mind at all."

Several employees spoke in unison, eager to watch the drama unfold.

Lin Qian glared at them, feeling angry yet amused inside.

Truly, a bunch of pig teammates.

The employees winked at her and, after some joking around, began to find their own activities.

Right then, the music started, and people began to dance on the floor.

The employees laughed and headed to the dance floor, seemingly giving Lin Qian and Su Yu’an some time alone.

Su Yu’an smiled and nodded courteously to the employees, his genteel demeanor making several female employees blush.

Lin Qian pressed her lips together, silent, and took a big gulp of alcohol from her glass.

"Drink slowly, you’ll get drunk easily if you drink like that."

His gentle voice resonated by her ear, just as warm and considerate as before.

Lin Qian’s heart ached as if her scar was being torn apart.

She glared at Su Yu’an, "Mind your own business? Su Yu’an, I thought I made myself clear. I don’t even want to be friends with you, and I hope you treat me like a stranger!"

His repetitive appearance before her, time after time, forced her to recall the past.

Didn’t he know he was being cruel?

"Qianqian, are you still mad at me? For how I treated you back then? Actually, I..."

"You’re just like all the other men! Cold, selfish, seeking advantage, heartless, Su Yu’an, I misjudged you."

Lin Qian cut him off, a trace of bitterness flashing in her eyes, and she emptied her glass again.

Su Yu’an opened his mouth, swallowed the words he was about to say, and pulled a bitter smile.

What was there to explain?

A mistake was a mistake.

Claiming to be doing it for her good, when, in truth, it was pure selfishness.

"Qianqian, it’s all my fault. I don’t ask for anything else, I just hope you can forgive me."

Su Yu’an grabbed Lin Qian’s hand, his eyes glittering with pleas and guilt.

Perhaps spurred by the alcohol, or perhaps wanting to vent, Lin Qian shook off Su Yu’an’s hand and pushed all the bottles of alcohol on the table towards him.

"You want my forgiveness? Fine! Drink all this alcohol first, then we’ll talk."

She remembered Su Yu’an was a very restrained man.

He neither smoked nor indulged in alcohol.

Didn’t he want her forgiveness?

She looked for sincerity in him,

Challenge flashing in her eyes, tinged with a blush at the bottom of her pupils.

Su Yu’an remained silent, his gaze passing over the dozen or so bottles on the table, his starry eyes flickering in the strobe lights.

"Don’t want to drink? Look, Mr. Su, four years have passed, and we have become two different kinds of people. I am just a vulgar woman, while you are a sophisticated artist. We are like two parallel lines, with no need to intersect, understand?"

She was drawing boundaries between them in this way.

He understood!

But, he couldn’t possibly do as she wished!

"Who says I don’t want to drink? Qianqian, I hope you will keep your promise. As long as I finish these drinks, you’ll consider forgiving me."

Su Yu’an gave a faint smile, grabbed a bottle, and poured it directly into his mouth.

Lin Qian’s grip on her glass tightened, her expression complex as she watched the man throw his head back to drink, unease indescribable in her heart.

Why do this?

Why this capriciousness?

Four years ago, he broke up with her coldly because of her status, yet four years later, he repeatedly chased after her, asking for her forgiveness.

What was he really after?

Her status hadn’t changed; she was even a single mother now.

Could he not care about her status now?

Amidst a whirlwind of thoughts, the man continued to chug bottle after bottle, without pause.

One bottle, two bottles, three bottles...

Under the colorful lights, sweat began to bead on the man’s forehead.

His eyes closed, his brows knitted together as if he were desperately enduring something.

His hand, hanging at his side, clenched into a fist involuntarily, the veins standing out stark and fierce.

He finished the fourth bottle, about to drink the fifth...

Lin Qian’s lips tightly pressed together, and she snatched the bottle from Su Yu’an’s hand, turning her face away, "Stop drinking. The drinks here are expensive, and I didn’t plan to treat you."

Her tone was cold, yet it elicited a light laugh from Su Yu’an.

His long fingers wiped the residue from his mouth, and in the crimson of his eyes flashed an odd sense of relief.

"Qianqian, you’re considering forgiving me, aren’t you?"

"I only said I’d think about forgiving you. I haven’t agreed to forgive you, Su Yu’an, you—"

Suddenly, there was a weight on her shoulder.

Lin Qian was startled and turned to see Su Yu’an’s head resting on her shoulder, his hand over his chest, forehead slick with sweat, eyes tightly shut, his face full of extreme restraint.

What’s wrong?

Alcohol poisoning?

Startled, Lin Qian quickly propped him up, "Su Yu’an, what’s wrong with you?"

"Qianqian, forgive me. I didn’t mean to say those things four years ago. Actually, I—"

"Stop talking about that, I’m taking you to the hospital."

Lin Qian hoisted him up with urgency on her face.

Su Yu’an smiled, attempted to speak, but his face suddenly changed, and he spat out a mouthful of blood with a "pfft."

"Su Yu’an!!"

...

On the VIP floor, Nangong Li lounged on the sofa, calling Yin Moran.

"Where are you? Come out for drinks."

"No time."

"Don’t be so quick to reply! Guess who I just saw?"

Silence, followed by the sound of airport announcements over the line.

"Oh, looks like you just got off the plane? Then you’ll need to hurry up and come. If you’re too late, you might miss them."

"Speak plainly."

"Ah, you’re no fun. Well, I’ll tell you. Our sister Lin has come to Meili with a group of employees. Out of respect for you, I’ve waived their bill and sent up good drinks and dishes. Tell me, I’ve been a good brother, haven’t I?"

Nangong Li fiddled with the lighter in his hand, legs crossed and resting on the table, his posture lazy and devilish.
